Chapter 24
Epilogue - Ten years later…
Paris, France - 25th December 2626...
Gaia smiled proudly at her children. So much had happened in the ten years since, with Caren and Methos' help, she was able to bring the Immortals through time to live in peace. They had lives, some had families, all living each day to the fullest. And with the help of the perception filters she'd made each of them, they appeared to be ageing normally to all but other Immortals and their spouses and children.
Her sister Terra, had in time come realised her mistakes and was happily running the Sanctuary with Gaia. Their father having given her Goddess powers back to her and given his blessing for Kronos to marry his daughter, seeing the two were very much in love.
"Reminiscing, luv?"
Gaia smiled at her husband. "Yes, now Connor MacLeod, help me out of this chair. I wish to see my new grandchildren."
Connor laughed heartily and helped his very pregnant Goddess wife out of her chair. "There you go luv." He kissed her cheek. "You look radiant by the way."
"Flatter," she mused. She loved spending time with her son and his family, this year she and Connor had made the trip to Paris, even though Methos and Caren insisted they could go to the Sanctuary. Gaia had told them both she was not going to go into labour so they could both relax. And with the triplet's being born, she so desperately wanted to see them. And she loved to visit the Chateau where they lived.
"Grandma," Xander Fairchild rushed over to her and took her hand. "Grampy Joe and Grandma Becca are here."
"Thank you, Xander," she said and gave his hand a gentle squeeze as he walked with them. "We're going to see your sisters."
Ten year old Xander wrinkled his nose. "Why did it have to be three girls, dad and I are outnumbered."
Connor chuckled. "Oh lad, even if you're sisters had been boys, you still would have been outnumbered, because with women, they're…"
Xander, who was his father's son all over, finished the sentence. "...right even when they're wrong."
Connor laughed. "Aye lad they are."
Gaia shook her head, but chuckled. "Behave Connor."
"Yes ma'am," he said lightly with a twinkle of amusement in his eyes.
Xander rolled his eyes and released his grandmother's hand. "Whipped," he remarked and hurried off to play with the other children.
Connor frowned. "I bet that barbarian told him to say that."
"Connor MacLeod," Caren addressed him sternly. "Are you calling my husband and your step-son a barbarian?"
Noticing, not only the person in question was waiting for an answer, so were those with her. Her husband, who had an amused look on his face (and loved the irony that he the oldest Immortal was Connor MacLeod's step-son). As well as Joe Dawson and his lovely wife Rebecca, or Grandma Becca as Xander had called her.
"Aye, lass I am. Good thing he has you to tame him," he answered without hesitation.
"Oh Connor, he's never needed taming," she said silkily purr. "If I'd tamed him, we wouldn't have had the triplets."
Joe found that amusing. "She has you there, lad, you should quit while you're a head."
"Aye, I have that feeling."
Rebecca glanced around, the Christmas Day celebrations had brought friends and family together. She saw her son and his wife Amy, with their two boys talking to Joseph and Isabella Fairchild and their son, four year old Adem. Richie had been surprised at his mother's relationship with Joe and even more stunned when they announced they were getting married. He didn't mind having Joe as a step-father though. They'd always gotten along.
"Are Duncan and Amanda coming today?" Rebecca asked Caren.
"They said they were," the younger Immortal answered. "They were looking forward to seeing the triplets."
Joe smiled at the cot that had been set up that held the three beautiful sleeping triplets. "They are gorgeous, sweetheart," he told Caren.
She smiled. "Will we be hearing the pitta patter of little feet from you two soon?"
Rebecca giggled at the frantic look on her husband's face. "Not yet, perhaps in a few years." She kissed his cheek. "Joe's enjoying being a granddad for the moment."
"Damn right I am," he stated bluntly. "And I can give them back at the end of the day."
Methos playfully slapped him on the back. "It makes you feel young, Joe, you should try it."
"Smart ass," Joe muttered.
Zoe Fairchild rushed into the large living room and over to her parents. "Mummy a limousine just pulled up, is it Uncle Duncan and Aunt Amanda?"
Caren glanced at her husband, Methos always knew when Duncan was nearby, a repercussion from the joint Quickening both had experienced centuries ago. He nodded and she took her daughter's hand, Zoe was the image of her mother when she'd been that age. "I believe so, shall we go and see."
The little girl nodded and nearly pulled her mother out of the room in excitement.
Methos chuckled. "Amanda always did like to make an entrance."
"I'm surprised they don't have the Secret Service with them." Rebecca noted.
"Wolfe and McCormick are here, they came early and checked the place over," Methos revealed. "So they've probably given the rest of the detail time off for Christmas."
There was the sound of footfalls in the hallway outside the living room and two sets of twins rushed into the room. Two boys - 9 years old, who looked so much like their father it was scary and two girls, 7 years old, who were their mother all over.
"Uncle Methos," they squealed and when he hunkered down they hugged him.
Grinning happily, Methos hugged them back. "Hello Ian, Neal, Bonnie, Beckah. Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas," they chorused back.
"Can we see the triplet's, please Uncle?" Bonnie asked politely.
"Of course you can sweetheart," Methos agreed happily and stood. "Don't wake them up."
"We want," the four answered and hurried over to the cot.
"Which is which, Uncle Methos?" Ian, who has been named after Duncan's adopted father asked.
Methos smiled warmly and showed them who was who. "This is Kaitlin, then Kaleigh and finally Karina."
"They're cute," Bonnie said softly.
"You always have to outdo everyone, don't you old man?" Duncan MacLeod stated as he walked into the living room with his wife, Caren and Zoe.
Methos turned. "Well, what can I say, I do my best," he boasted and then laughed. "How are you Mr. President?" He asked teasingly.
"Fine thank you, Professor Fairchild," Duncan smirked and the two shook hands. "Merry Christmas, Methos."
"Merry Christmas, Duncan."
"Now I want to see the wee lassies," the Scot said anxiously.
"Well don't get any ideas," Amanda warned her husband. "I have enough to deal with being First Lady and a mother. We don't need to add to the clan yet."
Duncan gave her his best innocent look, making the adults chuckle softly. The two sets of twins and Zoe ran off to play with the other children.
Amanda gave Gaia a warm hug. "You look amazing."
"Thank you, child," the Goddess said, then commented. "I feel huge and uncomfortable."
"Are you sure there's only one in there?" Caren asked curiously, arching an eyebrow.
Connor balanced. "There bloody better be."
Gaia giggled softly. "Relax, Connor, there is only one."
Joe and Rebecca laughed at the Goddess' husband's remark.
Once the triplet's has been fussed over, the adults sat down while the children played. Methos played host and got everyone drinks before sitting next to his wife.
"I would like to say I am very proud of you all," Gaia stated with pride. "You've come further than I could have ever imagined."
"We've come further than we could have imagined," Duncan stated. "If you'd told me ten years ago I would become President, I would have laughed."
"You're doing a wonderful job, Duncan," Isabella praised him.
"Thank you, I have a strong team behind me and a wonderful wife to keep me grounded."
Amanda kissed his cheek. "We've done it together."
"Well I never thought I'd see the day where we'd have an Immortal for President," Joe stated. "Or First Lady."
"As you once said, Grandpa Joe, times change." Caren pointed out matter of factly.
"Yes they do, sweetheart," he agreed and raised his glass in a toast. "To family and friends."
"To family and friends," they all toasted.
The End...
