~~~Edited the first two chapters. Since they were a little longer, I took some of chapter 2 and am placing it here as chapter 3 along with new scenes.
I hope it's clear that the mc is having a hard time mentally handling all of this, thus explaining her contradictory thoughts and actions. She's slowly descending into the madness too. ~~~
I should have stayed away, but when I heard the fight break out, I went. I watched as they clashed Kakashis from the shadows, wishing I could join in. Kitten was itching to fight. The more I watched, the more I realized I was too.
People were screaming while others were videotaping the event. Buildings and other structures were getting destroyed, but neither of the fighters seemed to care. It was hard to watch; it wasn't fair that I couldn't fight too.
If I were to fight, whose side would I fight on? It was obvious that Kyohei still aligned with the village, so he was out. Aki was too wild, too dangerous. I tried to keep telling myself that. Was I really on my own?
"That's her," I heard Kyohei say behind me.
I turned, seeing him standing a distance away with a group of village soldiers. Cursing under my breath, I took off the other way.
As I hurried through crowds of panicked people, I summoned Kitten. Hidden in the shadows, she used her true powers for the first time in years. People noticed. I smirked at what I had done.
I ran down the street, hoping they were distracted enough to forget about me. Kitten sure had created a nice distraction. I turned into an alleyway and sat on the ground, panting as I tried to catch my breath.
"What are you running from?" Aki asked as he suddenly appeared beside me, a weird looking woman with glasses behind him.
"They found out," I replied as I looked up at him. He smirked before looking up at the lady.
"Leave us alone for a minute," he told her. She looked angry but stomped off.
"Found out what darling?" he asked as he sat down next to me. I wanted to punch him; he was only making my temper worse. He knew why but he wanted to hear me say it.
"That I illegally kept my Kakashi. They sent Kōshirō here to capture both of us and take us back to the Kuga clan," I said slowly, my breath slowly coming back to me. "I just barely got away."
"Looks like you're back on my side," Aki announced with a smirk as he stood up, extending a hand down to me. "Come on."
I grabbed it and stood up. He didn't let go of it, but used it to pull me closer as he led us down the road, back to where the glasses lady was. She looked at me suspiciously but didn't say anything.
"What are you planning Aki?" I asked as he led me along. I tried to ignore the fact that he had too much of his body touching mine, but it was hard not to notice.
"I think you could guess," he replied, but didn't look at me. I knew he had that mad, evil look on his face.
I ignored his comment as I watched the weird lady walking behind us. What was he doing hanging out with this girl anyways? "Who's the chick?" I asked as we walked.
He laughed. "She is a tool for the moment. I'm still considering if I should kill her or not. It's her apartment that I'm hiding out at," he explained. I was hoping to see more of a reaction on her face, but she didn't seem shocked or scared by what he said. Oh well, I have ways to make her terrified.
God, two minutes with Aki and my thoughts were already turning morbid. I should have run, but where else could I have gone?
When we reached the old looking apartment buildings, the lady led us to a door on the second floor. We let her step forward to let us in.
Aki stood behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. "She is also quite interested in our dolls," he whispered in my ear as we both watched her unlock her door. I could tell she was a talkative person, but for some reason around me she was silent.
I nodded as he led me into her small, dirty apartment. "I'm not staying here!" I complained immediately as I strode to the door, but Aki came up behind me and held it shut.
"It's either here with us or in jail back in the village. Kyohei isn't your ally anymore," he said as he looked at me, grinning like he knew I would choose to stay with him.
"What did you kids do to get you in jail? You're village sounds really messed up," the lady asked as she scrambled around her apartment looking for something.
"You have no idea," Aki and I replied at the same time.
"Or, I can go on my own and wait until the capture you. Because if they do then they won't worry about me. I can go back to my easy, boring, normal life as a waitress," I replied as I tried to get out, but once again he held the door shut. I considered jumping out the window.
"Why are you bothering with this girl anyways? Aren't we better without her?" the lady asked as she pulled out a sketchbook from under a huge pile of books.
Aki left my side and went over to the lady, whom he threw against the wall. "First off, she's staying with me. No questions asked. Second, it's only me, not we. You don't have any part in this," he said fiercely, then turned back to me and smirked.
Jerk. I glared back at him as I sat down on the bed. There was only one room in the apartment and it was crowded with junk. Not to mention it smelled like a rotten fish. Yeah, I was getting out of here as soon as possible. I could hide out on my own just fine.
I needed to make up my mind. Half of me wanted to stay with Aki to figure out what he was planning, the other half considering slipping the village a hint to where he was staying. I don't think going back to my apartment was a choice anymore, no matter what I kept telling myself. I was in too deep.
"So now that that is settled, what's for dinner?" Aki asked as he plopped on the bed, bouncing me. He tried to reach and pull me closer to him, but I pushed him away.
"I think you kids are hiding something," the lady said as she handed us our pizza.
I laughed as I took a bite, knowing that the lady only was saying that to try and get us to prove we had the creatures she was looking for. It would be interesting messing with her.
