Title: Happy New Year
Disclaimer: I do not own Ugly Betty; if I did we would have never had to sit through the Henry years.
Takes place: Post season four. New Year's Eve, 2012.
This is not part of the Gossip Universe
For those of you who are waiting patiently for the next chapter of Adaptation Mode Style, something should be up in the next couple of weeks. I'm working on it. Okay, I actually wrote this because I had a severe case of writer's block on that story. I thought if I worked with the Ugly Betty characters in a completely different environment it would help. Considering, I now have a chapter in draft, I think it helped.
Summary: Betty, Daniel, Times Square, live television, and a Tiffany's ring box. New Year's Eve 2012 will be memorable.
This is a one shot that will stay that way until I finish the current arc of the gossip series. (Unless I get enough of a response to convince me that I should do something else even though I'm working on six different stories right now.)
Warnings: Sexual innuendo but no worse than on the actual show. Also some things that may be considered Henry bashing but it's no worse than something Marc and Amanda would say to someone's face (or behind their back for that matter).
Pairings: Other than the obvious, I am not telling. That would spoil the fun.
Special thank you to Teddy Bear who reviewed this.
It sounds cliché but you never truly enjoy a city until you no longer live there. Betty lived in New York or rather Queens for the first 26 years of her life and never really ventured to the museums or the concert halls. Madison Square Garden was that place above Penn station. Never once did she go ice skating in Rockefeller Center. She tried for a carriage ride through Central Park once but that was complicated. She never saw the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. She never really enjoyed the cuisine of the city (except her father's cooking) until she started working at Mode and Daniel taught her that any restaurant will do take out if you are willing to pay. She had some of the best food in the city sitting on the floor of Daniel's office or apartment trying to figure out how to save the magazine after Wilhelmina's most recent attempt at sabotage.
Now that she lived in London Betty was essentially experiencing her new city the same way. The only time she did anything like seeing museums or visiting Buckingham Palace was when her family came to visit or Christina was in town with William. Her family along with Amanda came to London two years ago for Christmas because she was too busy getting London Now, off the ground. She never would have set foot in Harrods if it wasn't for Amanda dragging her there that Christmas.
Thank God for the royal wedding. It helped the magazine a lot during the first year. The only reason why she got to enjoy any of the festivities was Marc and Amanda were sent by Mode to cover the event because Wilhelmina doesn't trust any of the London Mode people to cover this story for her. (At least that was the excuse, Betty is sure Wilhelmina sent Marc to London to help him get over the implosion of his relationship with Troy two weeks earlier.) They forced her along with Daniel to enjoy herself for once. Let's not even talk about how little of the Olympics she actually got to see this year.
If Daniel didn't bring take out to her office from the best restaurants in the city she would be stuck living on the vending machines and the subpar deli downstairs. He was a great assistant who made sure she didn't live in her office and had some sort of social life even if it involved public appearances for the sake of publicity or increasing advertising. He taught her lots of things about the magazine industry she didn't know. (Most of that knowledge pertained to dealing with a colleague that wanted your job and your head on a platter.) Contrary to popular belief, Daniel picked up a lot more during his time at Mode then a STI or two.
She was joking when she suggested that Daniel become her assistant but he decided to take her up on the offer. He said something about the fact that nobody else in London knew how she liked her coffee or to give her French fries during the middle of a crisis. (Not that she ever asked him to get her coffee.) He also said he needed to find something to do as he figured out what he wanted to do with his life without riding the coattails of the Meade name and figure that working with her part time would help with that. Of course, he told her this when they were in bed together. (Yes, in that way.)
How her and Daniel went from best friends to lovers, she is not entirely sure. After being together for over two years, she realized that their relationship was not that different except for the sex and kissing. Why that transition happened, she is still not entirely sure. Most likely it had something to do with the fact that Daniel followed her to another country. She doesn't believe that Daniel randomly chose London as the place he wanted to start over in. He was there for her. Betty could lie to herself and say that was not the case but it would be just that, a lie. (Maybe it had a little bit to do with the fact that Daniel was less known in London then in the states.)
They were supposed to meet for a simple dinner between friends after she ran into him that day. Yet, somehow she ended up naked in Daniel's bed having her first double orgasm ever. When she told Amanda and Christina everything during a crisis conference call where she freaked out over the fact she slept with Daniel on the first date it was pointed out to her that she and Daniel had been dating for the better part of four years. Her sister said something similar. Her father said something that's suspiciously sounded like finally.
Amanda did not even seem that surprised when two months later Betty told her that they were moving in together. Neither was her sister for that matter. Apparently, everyone else saw this coming.
It was the easiest relationship she ever had. Betty doesn't say that because they never argued with each other. She and Daniel fought constantly but they were all silly arguments that usually ended up in the bedroom (or any other place or surface Daniel has successfully talked her into trying). Their arguments were about who forgot to set the coffee maker and squeezing the toothpaste the wrong way. It was easy because they just made sense together.
Daniel understood what she needed from him. He was never jealous of her job or felt that she should put him first. Daniel could easily survive Christmas with the Suarez's and she could deal with an expat's Thanksgiving in France with DJ and Alexis.
She even supported Daniel when he came up with what she initially thought of as a crazy idea to write a book. She was initially expecting him to do an autobiography not a work of fiction. In between long meetings and spending way too much time in her office he bounced ideas off of her. It was her idea for Daniel to write about what he knew and that would be the fashion industry.
The final product was Beautiful is the New Ugly done just in time for Christmas 2011. She didn't put the manuscript down until they returned back to England from her father's house. That was probably why even using a pen name Daniel had a book deal by her birthday in April.
Even though Betty knew the main character Elizabeth was based on her this wasn't just some simple retelling of his time at Mode with the names changed. It was a reflection on that crazy time period in his life. If it was merely that, Wilhelmina would have killed him and then sued his estate for defamation of character. It probably helped that he also dedicated the book to both her and Betty. Okay, the real reason why she didn't sue was Mode U.S. got the first exclusive interview with writing sensation Daniel Suarez complete with digitally altered photo. (She has no idea why he decided to use her last name for his pen name, but she decided not to question it.) The book was unbelievably successful in the states and the UK which meant that Daniel finally succeeded in something without using his last name. It also meant she had to find a brand new assistant even if Daniel still showed up to her office all the time to make sure she didn't starve herself when she was working on the final book. Betty really did miss working with him all the time but maybe it was time things changed. Daniel is having way too much fun working on his second book involving two brothers who never got along until the death of their mother.
Everything was wonderful until the week before Christmas when TMZ and Fashion TV figured out that Daniel Suarez and Daniel Meade was the same person. The good news was sales for Beautiful as the New Ugly went up nearly 400% which was remarkable considering the book was already a New York bestseller. The bad news was half the papers in London were camped out in front of their apartment. Thankfully, they were already planning to spend the holidays in New York. The original plan was to do all the great tourist stuff like skating in Central Park and visiting their spot on the Brooklyn bridge that they never really had time for when they lived in the city. That wasn't going to happen with photographers following the couple everywhere. Fashion TV and the rest of the press was hungry to find out what Daniel has been up to since he disappeared right after Mode centennial issue.
Daniel's publicist decided the best way to deal with the situation was to appear on every single TV show that she could book him on in the states. The ladies of the View loved him even more when they heard the story of him moving across the ocean for true love. Betty was just dragged along because her boss, Lindsey, decided it would be good publicity for London Now. Apparently, she owed him for allowing the former editor and owner of the competition to work at a magazine he owns for two years even if it was part time.
At least on Christmas she got to spend it along with Daniel without TV appearances or answering ridiculous questions. Okay that was not completely accurate because they were surrounded by family but the press wasn't there. (Although, no reporter could be as invasive as Amanda when she asked Daniel if the sex scene from page 234 between Elizabeth and her boss actually happened between Betty and Daniel when she was his assistant.)
They were at her sister's loft in midtown with her baby niece Rosa in her arms. Betty was supposed to come back to New York for her niece's birth last August but she didn't get a chance to because Rosa decided to show up three months early. Daniel was giving her his 'I can't wait to have kids' smile that he gets every time she's around children. He even gets that way when the now nearly four-year-old William comes to visit.
Her father was standing to the side taking pictures of the family scene with his wife of exactly one year sitting next to him. He arrived from Malibu the day before where he moved to last year. His celebrity chef boss started a new restaurant on the West Coast and offered the head chef position to her dad. Following Daniel's example, her father said he had no choice but to take it. Within a few months she was flying out for her father's Christmas wedding to Elena. Although the family was a lot bigger now than the last time she spent Christmas in New York, it was still great. The best part was Daniel was with her.
"You're good with her." Daniel said as he handed her a cup of her father's signature hot chocolate from the coffee table complete with fresh whipped cream and a candy cane stir.
"She is better behaved than Justin was at that age. He had this tendency to always throw up on my Christmas sweaters." She said referring to her teenage nephew who was currently celebrating Christmas at his boyfriend Austen's house. If you have been dating someone off and on for three years it is a prerequisite to spend some of the holidays with his family. She would probably be at Mrs. Meade's house if she wasn't visiting her other children for Christmas this year. It was enough that three days ago the couple had to attend a very boring and formal Meade gathering. The best part was Wilhelmina choking on the one hors d'oeuvre she allowed herself to have when she noticed the designer gown Betty was wearing. (Okay, the best part of the party was certain activities that took place in the restroom that Betty wishes not to discuss. She's been spending way too much time with Daniel if that was her favorite part of the night.)
"If it was anything like the Christmas sweaters you wore during your first year at Mode I think I understand. Baby, your aunt is a much better dresser now." Daniel said with a laugh and smile.
"Daniel." Betty chided halfheartedly.
"Your nephew has always had great taste. Wilhelmina told me she was planning on making him a junior fashion editor as soon as he graduates." A few months ago when Marc officially became the new Mode creative director, he somehow managed to convince Hilda that her son would do better in the future if he took classes online and worked at Mode as his assistant part time instead of going the more traditional route. Justin returned to his first love fashion after several years of horrible auditions and not getting anywhere. Betty helped convince Hilda a little by pointing out that most of what she learned about the publishing industry came from watching Wilhelmina and Daniel and not from the classes that she actually attended.
"So I don't have great taste?" She asked in mock offense.
"Of course, you do. Now," Daniel said with a smile as he passed a gift bag to her. "It doesn't matter because you are beautiful in anything or preferably nothing."
"You're not trying to bribe me to forget about what you said?" She asked with one eye brow raised.
"It's not a bribe if I was planning to give it to you anyway." Daniel said grabbing Rosa so she could give her full attention to her present. Daniel absolutely loved his little niece even if she was not technically his niece yet.
"I wonder what you got me." She said grabbing the bag from the floor.
"I would just like to say this is not your real Christmas present. There was a mix-up at Tiffany's. This was originally your stocking stuffer." He said quickly
"Please tell me you didn't get me another business card holder?" Betty joked as she carefully removed the tissue paper in a way that drove Daniel slightly crazy. He just laughed at her as Betty's jaw dropped in shock as she saw what was inside. She shouldn't be surprised to find a diamond necklace. Last year's 'stocking stuffer' was front row tickets to the NKOTBSB concert in London in April. That was the best birthday ever even if they spent the entire concert making out. Her real present, besides Daniel's manuscript, was a bracelet that has been in the Meade family longer than Meade publications has existed. It originally belonged to Daniel's great great grandmother who brought the bracelet with her when she immigrated, from France.
"This is your idea of a stocking stuffer?" She said holding up the beautiful necklace.
"I figure I should spend some of the book royalties on you since you are the reason why I wrote it in the first place." He joked.
"You would have written the book eventually even if it wasn't for me." She told Daniel honestly.
"No, I wouldn't have. If it were not for you, I probably would still be that simple playboy you met nearly seven years ago or I probably would be dead of alcohol poisoning." His expression was too grim for that last part to really be a joke.
"I was personally thinking of a STI." Betty said to lighten the mood.
"Probably, it doesn't matter. This is thank you. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for encouraging me to be more than what everyone expected me to be. Thank you for loving me. Finely thank you for putting up with our winter holiday becoming a press tour." She had no choice but to laugh at that last part.
"It's okay. Although, I'm kind of upset about not getting to stand out in the freezing cold in front of the Toys R Us store as we wait for midnight surrounded by complete strangers." She said knowing that her planned first New Year's Eve in Times Square would be preempted so that she could attend whatever charity event or press commitment that Daniel would need to do instead. She dragged Daniel to enough work related events over the last two years to know that it was only fair that she do the same.
"I can't believe you want to go down to Times Square. There's a reason why only tourist do that. Baby Rosa, your aunt is crazy." Daniel said to the giggling baby.
"It's something that I've never done before. You are the one who always says I should try new things." She said with a smile.
"I meant in the B-E-D-R-O-O-M when it comes to S-E-X." Betty could not help but smile at him being silly and overprotective.
"Is that all you think about?" Betty asked playfully.
"There's a reason why Beautiful is the New Ugly is considered pornography by housewife's in Iowa." Daniel said covering the baby's ears. She could hear her father leaving the room uncomfortably at that point.
"I think your Times Square thing is still possible although I won't be down there with you at the stroke of midnight. My wonderful publicist Mimi booked me on one of the many obligatory New Year's celebrations."
"How did that happen?" She asked in surprise.
"Somebody else that Mini's firm represents may or may not have got busted with a few Grams of coke and will be in rehab for the next 28 days. The needed someone charismatic to fill in." Daniel said with his I'm lying to you smile. She would question Daniel more on it but at that moment Justin and his boyfriend came into the apartment carrying fresh baked goods from Austin's mother's house. She loved homemade Christmas cookies no matter where they came from.
Six days later on December 31, she stood in Times Square wearing the designer coat and gloves that she got from Justin for Christmas, that were most likely liberated from the closet. Standing next to her was Amanda wearing her own prototype creation with matching leopard print gloves and hat. Not bad for somebody who has only been in design school for a year and a half.
After not doing so well as a personal stylus Marc brought her back to Mode as his personal assistant two years ago before Justin took over. At least that was the plan until fall fashion week 2010 when apparently Wilhelmina did something to alienate enough writers that Marc had no choice but to let Amanda cover a show. Her time writing the blog and working as a stylus helped her be a better fashion writer and Wilhelmina was almost impressed, enough to have Amanda work on other fashion articles. At the same time, Amanda still dreamed of having her own label but she needed to fine tune her design skills and it wasn't like she could afford design school with her designer shoe habit. To make up for 28 years of being an absentee father, Spencer offered to pay for Amanda to go to design school. Now Amanda goes to classes full time and writes freelance articles for Mode to support her shoe habit. The most popular article series was Diary of a Fashion Designer in Training.
Standing next to Amanda was her boyfriend of six months, who still could not match his coat to his shoes despite the fact he was dating at design student and was the son of the wealthiest guy in Manhattan. According to Justin, who knew all the best gossip, Matt and Amanda found each other again when Amanda was asked to cover a charity fashion show sponsored by the Hartley Foundation last February fashion week.
Even if Betty was upset at the time that Matt left her to go to Africa, it was probably the best thing for Matt. He came back a much stronger more focused person. He stopped seeing being wealthy as a bad thing but as a tool that would allow him to help others. He returned to the states and finished his law degree. He now does a lot of pro Bono legal work in addition to being in charge of the Hartley Foundation.
"I can't believe you talked me into coming with you. Not only is it freezing but I'm surrounded by people who bought their coats at Kmart." Betty just rolled her eyes at Amanda's comment.
"Amanda its 39° and what's wrong with a coat from Kmart? Some people are lucky to have coats at all." Matt chided his girlfriend. If she didn't know that Amanda organized a clothing drive at Mode and a student charity fashion show that she somehow got Mode to back, Betty would wonder how those two could possibly be together.
"Stop complaining, this is fun." Betty said smiling as she shook her glittery pompon in the air.
"That's easy for you to say when you're covered with glitter and those horrible neon glasses acting like a cheerleader. I could be at the Mode charity New Year's gala pretending to be Marc's girlfriend drinking $200 champagne, instead I'm here. Stupid Daniel." Betty still heard that last part despite Amanda mumbling it under her breath.
"Daniel has nothing to do with this. It was my decision to come down here. I never did this when I lived here. I thought it would be fun." She said defending herself.
"Fun is good champagne, new shoes, and being warm." Betty smiled to herself as she realized there were still some universal constants.
"Have you ever done this before?" She asked Matt.
"A few times, it was the best way to avoid my mother's boring dinner parties when I couldn't join my father on some exotic vacation where he spent more time in business meetings then with me. Actually, that's why I agreed to be with you tonight. My mom found out that I spent Christmas in South Dakota with Claire and Amanda to visit my half-brother that I'm not supposed to know about." When Amanda was trying to rebuild her friendship with Matt last spring, she accidentally mentioned Tyler forgetting that Cal was his father. Claire eventually told Matt everything and he has been working on trying to build a relationship with his half brother ever since.
He was doing better than Daniel in that regard. Things were still uncomfortable between Tyler and Daniel. Things have improved enough that Tyler spent a couple weeks during his summer break in London but communication between the brothers was still strained at best. Tyler was currently back in school to get his MBA and celebrating two years sober. Someday he wants to open a restaurant in his old hometown. Of course, Daniel knew none of this because he never actually had a real conversation with his half-brother. There was a reason why Daniel preferred to spend Christmas with her family now besides the fact that they were dating.
"That's not good." Betty said remembering how insane Victoria Hartley was. Then again, she was sure the woman was already furious at Matt for his current choice of girlfriend.
"It's been ugly. At least she is taking the fact that I know better than dad did. That's why I'm also avoiding the traditional family Christmas and New Year's somewhere warm." Matt said sadly.
"That's what Daniel's family usually did. This is one of the first times as an adult that he's been in New York between Christmas and New Year's. That's why I wanted us to do this." Betty told the couple.
"Yet, instead of enjoying this wonderful experience with you, he's on screen with that horrible man who took my daddy Spencer's new job." Betty said nothing as Amanda pointed to Daniel on the jumble television screen during her rant. She vaguely remembered Amanda mentioning something about her father trying to get a TV job after his soap opera was replaced with a cooking show.
"I blame TMZ and Fashion TV." Betty said with slight anger.
"I'm sure they miss Daniel." Amanda said shivering.
"Considering he's outside and being attacked by Debbie from Del Ray, I don't think Daniel is doing better than us." Matt said smiling. Just because they shared a half brother doesn't mean that the two got along any better. It was actually worse now that Matt was dating Amanda. Daniel was acting like an overprotective big brother, which was a little creepy considering that the two have slept together.
"I think the badly dressed bitch with the fake girls just handed your boyfriend her panties." Amanda said happily.
"How can you know that when he is not even on the screen anymore?" Betty said as she pointed to the screen that now held Bruno Mars.
"He's like right there." Amanda said pointing to Daniel trying to desperately get away from the crazy girl.
"I think she's DJ's age." Betty said in discussed at the girl not Daniel.
"The old Daniel would have taken her phone number and the panties. This is why I know he loves you." Amanda said smiling.
"I don't think he was ever into the underage." Matt said sarcastically.
"There was this one incident with this Russian model but it turns out she was just trying to blackmail him and was really over 18." That caused Betty to give her a dark look resulting in Amanda running her fingers across her lips as if she was zipping up a zipper. She really didn't care because Daniel was now in front of her. His mouth was on hers before she had time to really comprehend that he was there. According to Amanda, Debbie from Del Ray was beyond angry at seeing the display. They were so caught up in each other that correspondent Brian Wu had to smack Daniel with his microphone to get his attention. She knew that it was really Suzuki but she didn't say anything. She was actually happy that he now had a real job with ABC news.
"I'm out here with the hottest writer around Daniel Meade and his girlfriend London Now EIC Bethany Sanchez." Byron began and Betty couldn't help but roll her eyes. Later, Lindsey will tell her that it was fine because at least he got the name of the magazine right and the web site traffic for the magazine went up 4000%.
"It's Betty." She corrected but Byron ignored her. Apparently, he was not any nicer as his real self.
"Everyone wants to know why you left the world of models and designer clothing of New York behind to become a writer in London of all places?" Betty lost track of how many times Daniel has been asked that question in the last two weeks.
"I was tired of getting everything handed to me because my last name was Meade. I wanted to do something completely unexpected of me." Daniel said honestly.
"Is that why you released your book under a pseudonym?" Byron followed up.
"Sometimes it's easier to be yourself when nobody knows who you really are and you have no expectations to live down to. I'm sure you know all about that Bryan." Daniel said with a mysterious smirk. Suzuki followed up with several more invasive questions including the one that has been asked on every single interview that Daniel has done in the last week.
"Rumor has it that you left the fabulous life behind for your girlfriend?" That question just resulted in Daniel giving him his extremely annoyed look. Daniel should expect nothing else from Suzuki St. Pierre even if he was going by his real name.
"I didn't leave anything behind except for what I was pretending to be. I'm able to be myself in London and that's because of that wonderful person next to me." Daniel said turning to her again. "You are the most wonderful person in the universe. You taught me true beauty really is. You taught me how to be myself. You taught me real love was unconditional and doesn't care about silly things designer labels and dress size. You Betty Suarez made me a better person. Most important of all, you made me want to be a better person." For some reason one tear was falling down her cheek by that point and that was before Daniel took the trademark Tiffany ring box out of his pocket.
"I have never loved anyone else as much as I love you. I want to spend forever with you. Betty Suarez, will you marry me?"
Hilda sat next to her husband on the couch watching her sister's boyfriend of two years (six if you really think about it) be attacked by some slut wearing a top the look like a bra underneath her open coat. Thankfully, they switched back to Bruno Mars performing.
"Betty is not going to be happy." Hilda said as she now held the sleeping Rosa in her arms. I'm glad I'm not there." Of course, Hilda really did wish she was with her sister but she had a new baby to take care of. Sometimes she wondered why she decided to have another kid considering that, thanks to his wonderful job at Mode, Justin will probably have his own apartment by summer. However, she loves baby Rosa.
"I don't think she's that upset." Bobby pointed to the small screen in the corner that showed the two making out like hormone driven teenagers. It fit well with the song.
She laughed a little too hard when that new reporter smacked Daniel with the microphone. She was anything but happy when he got her sister's name wrong. "You think with her being a big time editor the guy would remember her name." Hilda said in irritation.
"Betty is big in London. Here she is just Daniel Meade's girl friend." Bobby told her.
She was practically in tears during his speech to Betty. But she lost it when the ring came out.
"SAY YES! SAY YES!" She shouted so loud that Rosa started crying. She was not happy to start breastfeeding during the middle of her sister's marriage proposal.
About 10 minutes ago, Justin received a text message from the man he could not wait to call uncle telling him to stream the ABC New Year's coverage and to grab Mrs. Meade who was also at the Mode charity New Year's gala. So now he stood with in the coat room of one of the best hotels in the city watching his aunt's boyfriend be accosted by cheerleaders 12 minutes to midnight instead of making sure his boss didn't do anything stupid. He really did not need to see his aunt kissing anyone and he was sure Mrs. Meade felt the same way.
He was about to go back to the party just before Daniel went into his speech about how great his aunt was. Then he saw the trademark Tiffany's ring box and knew why he was told to stream this. That was when Marc found him and Mrs. Meade watching anxiously.
"What are you doing?" Marc asked.
"Daniel just proposed to Aunt Betty in Times Square on live television." He explained.
"You think he would have learned better from the last time he proposed on television." Marc said as he watched a speechless Betty on screen. "It's just wrong if she gets married before me now that I can get married in New York.
"I hope this goes better than last time." Mrs. Meade said anxiously. Justin felt the same way.
"Finally, he proposed but he should have asked me first." Mr. Suarez said to his wife as he hoped his youngest daughter would say yes. They have been living together long enough.
2012 has been miserable year for Henry from being downsized to engaging in a messy custody battle with his ex and her new husband. Now he only got to see his son on every other holiday and for a few weeks during the summer. He was also forced to move in with his horrible cousin in Brooklyn as he looked for a new job. Fortunately, tax season is coming and he would have lots of work soon. Unfortunately, the last few weeks of watching his Betty on television with Daniel, her boyfriend, have been the most miserable part of this year.
He saw this coming from the moment she turned down his proposal to stay in New York with Daniel. He thought by encouraging her to go to London that it wouldn't happen but maybe that hastened things along forcing both to realize the truth.
Sitting alone watching television on New Year's Eve he saw his worst fear occur live with millions of other people watching. After Daniel asked his question he prayed she would say no. The precious seconds of silence gave him hope.
"Yes." He saw a crying Betty say onscreen and with that one word, his entire world was shattered. Henry couldn't help but hope that 2013 would be a much better year as he watched the one love of his life passionately kiss the true love of her life as the song It Will Rain played in the background.
It only hurt him a little to see the first woman that he ever cared about as more than a means to get off getting engage to someone else. He knew this was going to happen. Betty always cared about Daniel more than she ever cared about him. He accepted that a long time ago.
"Are you okay? Amanda whispered in his ear as she held onto him.
"I'm fine. I knew this was going to happen the moment Daniel punched me out at the U.N. Are you okay? I know you two were together." Matt asked softly.
"I now think of Daniel the same way I think of Marc except he's mostly straight. This is the way it's supposed to be." Amanda said pointing to the kissing couple. He wondered if they were going to come up for air any time soon. He may be okay with Betty getting married but he really didn't want to watch the two practically have sex in front of hundreds of thousands of complete strangers.
"Besides, I love you." Amanda said as she placed a light kiss on his lips.
"Although, when you ask me to marry you, my ring better be twice as big." Amanda said in a tone that told him she was serious.
"Of course, Amanda."
The End
