Epilogue
It was never easy.
Then again, she could not quite remember the last time her life had been described as easy. It might appeared as though she obtained everything that she wanted, but she did not. She did fight for a lot of it though. That included her relationship with Goten. She made him suffer quite a lot in the beginning. After all, he had broke her heart more than once and she was not above returning the favor. She did accept his kisses, she did allow him to pursue her despite the fact that he should not have even been allowed near her.
She had been in love with him her whole life.
It was not that easy to let go of her feelings.
She had also given her father an earful after the little stunt he had pulled. He was not allowed to simply mingle in her life they way he had. Although, she did take pride in the fact that he had yet to get involved in her brother's life the way he got involved in hers. It did give her some bragging rights and the title of the favorite child. Not that she ever doubted her status as such. She had kept her mother's little concoction. She had even told Goten she had kept it. He had to earn back her trust and he had to show her that she was a prize, not an embarrassment.
She made him work hard.
And despite how much it was killing her, he was prohibited from touching her.
If he wanted her, he had to earn it.
There was also a lot for them to figure out. What were they going to do? How were they going to live? She was nowhere ready for anything resembling a marriage. She might had been waiting for him for a long time… but it did not mean she was ready to jump in. Their relationship was not stable and they had quite a few things they needed to figure out first. However, the more time they seemed to spend together, the less they were constantly attacked by memories - which she was grateful for.
He might know that she had spent her whole life in love with him but he did not need to know every single little embarrassing thought she ever had about him. She did not care how bonded they were. She still wanted some privacy in her life. Plus, it was not as though one love declaration was going to erase all the doubts and the pain in her heart. It would take her a bit before she truly believe he was being honest with her. She needed to know that it was coming form the real Goten and not from the bond that was tying them together. After all, being together had cost them a few things. There was still some tension with her brother and Goten and Gohan had yet to speak again.
But he did not seem to mind that.
Or he did and he did not share it with her. Which was also an issue in itself. After all, had they not agreed to be honest with one and another?
"B… I should have listened."
"You're telling me."
The happiness surrounding the moment at the mall had dissipated. Now, they were left with the same awkwardness as before. There was still so much to talk about and it felt like it was absolutely hopeless to try.
"Why should I believe you?"
"Because I don't wanna lose you." He sighed. "Before all this, you were important to me. I don't wanna lose you."
"So you're settling. You want me in your life, so you'll put up with this to have it."
Sometimes, she was the most amazing person in his life. Other times, she was the worst brat he had ever met. He knew why she was doing this. And he also knew he perhaps deserved it but it did not make it any easier to deal with it. There was not any magic solution for them or a guideline for them to follow. They had to make it up as they went and it was precisely what he was attempting to do. If only she gave him that one last chance. He did not want to disappoint again.
"That's not what I'm saying?"
"Does it matter? What you say and what you do are two different things."
"Okay, I hurt you. And I'm a moron. You know what, if I fail again. Take your little miracle solution."
She certainly did not need his permission to do so. She could do it right now if she wanted.
"I can do it when I want."
"I know." He reached out for her hand and intertwined their fingers. "I fucked up. I don't care okay. I don't care. The world doesn't even know who I am anyway." They always had to pretend they were weaker than they actually were. They had to let someone else win to make good figure. He did not owe this world anything because this world did not know who he was deep inside. Bura knew and she understood better than others. She was the one to whom he owed the truth.
"Don't you forget it."
"I never could."
Everyone knew that Bura Briefs always had her way.
"It's gonna include a lot of grovelling."
'I know."
"I lot of begging."
"I know."
"And no sex."
That one he did not know. But he pretended he did. "I know." He should not have expected her to be anything else than prideful.
"I'm gonna need a lot of things."
"I'm aware of that."
"Good."
For the most part, he had held his part of the bargain. At first, it had begun rather slowly with small gestures like flowers - he did not even remember her favorite flowers - and then it moved on to surprise visits, little dates out and about. They were going at it slowly but she figured it was the safest way. After all every time they collided and burned, they were left broken and hurt. She was not for slow well thought out long action plans. But this was what they needed if they wanted to have a chance at making it work.
They had wait to fuck since she had agreed to let him have this ultimate chance. She had indeed kept in her room the concoction but she did hope she would not have to use it. Even though it cost her a lot of herself, Goten was a little bit her prize. And winning was something she enjoyed immensely. Regardless, she was keeping herself at bay. Of course, it did not mean she did not have any desire, or that she did not want what he could offer her. But she simply was strong headed and she was going to have this her way. They did cuddle and - well sleep.
Like in this moment. She had slept over.
And she loved taunting him. She would drop subtle sign, as though it was going somewhere but then she would take it away. It was a bit childish but he had completely crushed her ego and it was well time that he helped her lift her esteem one more time. He did not complain. Sometimes she could see the small twinge in his pants but he did not mention it. Apparently his years of martial arts and meditation were paying off. At least she was not going to torture him forever.
As per usual, she had awoken before him. Despite the fact that he was in a deep slumber, he still had his arms wrapped around her while her head rested upon his strong, muscular chest. She was used to strong men around her but there was something about Goten's frame that was different. And though she feared no one, and her saiyan blood ran deep within her, there was a sense of security tied up with having him present. They were few stronger than her on this planet and he was one of them. He could handle her and whatever she might throw his way. That thought was indeed very pleasing to her.
There was a shift in the bed and suddenly, she felt a kiss being pressed to the top of her head. She tilted her chin upward, moving her angle and allowing her to see Goten's awaked face. His hair looked like he had gone to war, but there was nothing new. Nothing could be done about the Sons' hair. Kami had she tried. He had smile on his face as he gazed upon her. He was more demonstrative which did please her bruised ego. They had also allowed themselves to talk. The memories had started the work for them, but there was something they actually needed to say. And they had. Of course, most of the things he had finally realized, she had known for a long time already.
"Morning."
"Morning."
Mornings were quieter when they were spent in his apartment rather than her house. Unfortunately, her house included too many prying ears and she preferred the privacy that they were offered here. Granted, it was not as big as what she was used to but she did not need more. It felt more like a relationship when they were here. As though they had this small piece of paradise hidden away for their eyes only. It did make her mother call more, but she worried. After all, their relationship kept spinning in every direction. Her father had remained out of it so far. Then again, it was probably because he had won. He did not need to get involve again.
It worked for him.
"Are you hungry?"
"Are you really asking a saiyan that?" she asked, her tone laced with amusement.
"You're right, stupid question." Sometimes, when they awoke like this, he wanted nothing more than to tangle himself up with her body and never let her leave the bed. There was a need hidden deep inside of him. He wanted her to smell like him, he wanted to taste her and wrap himself around her. But he held himself back. It was the price he had to pay for his stubbornness. It was quite entertaining to think he had ended up the stubborn one. He always thought he was easy going. But his way of life had almost cost him someone important.
She had always been there. Sometimes, she had been in the background. Other times, she had been front and centre. He had simply been to blind to notice it and now he was paying the price. He would be lying if he said that sometimes, he did not hate himself. He did have a hard time with the age difference. It remained there, plaguing at him. But he also constantly reminded himself that on top of being half human, they were half saiyan. It was different. She was different. How could she not be? She had to live her life at a high speed while combining two ways of life. And though he got to enjoy his childhood a lot more than she had, he understood how difficult it was to juggle being a hybrid.
And so, when the thoughts were overwhelming him, he would remind himself of the good.
It would not all solve itself in a matter of weeks or months. But, he knew the efforts were worth it. When he was with her, he could fully be himself. And that even included acting upon his saiyan half. Which was something he was still learning how to do. Because of who her father was, she always embraced that half of herself. He was different. Plus, his father had not grown up saiyan, he had grown up human. It changed things.
He did not know if the mating had been the best thing to happen. He did not know if they would have ended up together otherwise. Actually if he was being completely honest with himself, he knew that they would not have ended up in this situation. Bura had too much pride and he was too far deep in his values. It would have not happened. But the main point was that it did happen and they were together. And it was not the worst thing. He liked it. The more he let go, the more he found himself happy. There was no lie, no dancing around issues, no pretending to be something that he was not.
It worked.
There was some pain, some issues that needed to be worked upon but it was nothing that could not be overcome.
Faith had a twisted sense of humour but in their case, it had ended up working out.
"I can make ya some food?" he proposed. Bura was usually a lot easier to deal with once she had some food. When she was hungry, the genes she had inherited from her father had a tendency to emerge. He preferred it when she was more like Bulma. Actually, did he? He did not know. It was not fair. He preferred it when she was herself. But with some food in her stomach.
That was worded better.
"I would not mind some food."
Goten was not like her. He had grown up in a household where his mother was the one who made the food. Which was quite the opposite of her. He was excited when Chichi made food and she feared the house would burn down when her mother was near a stove. For someone who was genius, she was utterly stupid when she was in a kitchen. Regardless, the recent times living by himself and thanks to some advice from his mother, Goten was quite handy in the kitchen. She supposed it was a skill she should attempt to work on. She had never really… cooked.
"Yes ma'am," he joked as he yanked the blankets away from their body. He had a lot to make up for and he figured a few breakfasts in bed might help him be on her good side. He saw it sometimes. The flash of pains, the broken ego. And no, honestly, he could not take all the blame. But he was the one who tried the least. And he would be the one trying the hardest for the time being.
He was about to lift his body from the bed when she used her strength to keep him down. "Actually," she began with a tilted head. "I thought maybe we could do another kind of treat first." Her eyes were gleaming as she shifted her position. Her palms were flat against his chest as she moved herself to be straddling him.
He had been nice.
He had been trying.
What kind of mate would she be if she did not reward him?
Plus, she did have to condition him. The nicer he was to her, the more treats he got. It was an investment for the future. She had seen her mother use that trick once or twice…
She slowly lowered herself until her mouth was at level with his growing cock. He tried to keep himself steady, his hands by his side as he watched her, completely enthralled by her every movement. Indeed, the mating had been a random stroke of luck.
He could see his life with her - forever.
-The End-
