Normal is Relative
I don't own Supernatural.
This is a plot bunny that begged to be written, I'm not that sure where to go from here, I'll just play it by ear.
Also it seems to be unique, at least I've never seen a fic with this premise before if there is please point it out for me as I'd love to read it. The idea is that the supernatural is common knowledge.
Prologue
John Winchester lent against the hood of his '67 Impala, his six month old son, Sammy, in his arms and the his, unusually quiet, four year old son, Dean, standing next to him. His life had just been ripped apart by fire, and the supernatural. How else had Mary been up on the ceiling if it wasn't the supernatural. Of course he knew about the supernatural, everyone did, it was just that he never, ever thought it would affect him. In fact he didn't know anyone that had ever even seen so much as a ghost. The supernatural wasn't very common, not since the 50's when hunting had became a recognised and regulated occupation.
The fireman were still tackling the blaze that was engulfing the only home his boys had even known, when the men in suits approached them. They looked like the standard government type, FBI or SID most likely. SID, Supernatural Investigation Division, was the youngest government agency. Set up after the supernatural became public knowledge in the 50's.
"Mr Winchester?" One the men asked. Too shocked by the whole evening John was only able to nod. The men flashed badges, revealing them to be SID agents. "I'm Agent Mills and this is Agent Mannings," he said indicating the man that had yet to speak. "We're sorry to have to do this so soon after your loss, but we need to ask you some questions." John looked at them with fury.
"My wife is dead and my son is traumatised, can't this wait?" John said pulling Dean closer, the poor kid was still staring blankly at the fire.
"I'm sorry sir, but we need a statement, before any details can be forgotten." Mills said. John sighed.
"Fine, what do you want to know?" John asked, he suddenly felt quite tired.
"What do you remember about what happened before the fire started?" Agent Mannings spoke up.
"I was downstairs, I heard Mary scream so I ran to her."
"To the nursery?" Mannings interrupted. John nodded and Mannings wrote something down in his note book. John looked at him in suspicion.
"Mary was on the ceiling above the cot, and then.. then she was on fire and I grabbed my boys and got out of there." John said in a rush, there was no way he was spilling his guts to a couple of Sids. The agents both nodded as if they expected what he'd said.
"Was there anything else? Was she hurt in any way?" Mills asked. John narrowed his eyes, just what did they know about what happened to his Mary.
"Yes, she had a cut on her stomach." John said. "Is that enough, 'cause I'd like to get the boys somewhere to sleep."
"Just one more thing, Mr Winchester, how old is your son?" Mannings asked indicating Sammy.
"Six months, what's that got to do with anything?" There was more note taking.
"Nothing, sir, just a routine question." Bullshit.
"It was one of those monsters, from the news, that's what got Mary, wasn't it? And you know what it was." John said.
"We are not at liberty to talk about on going cases, sir." Manning said unsympathetically "Thank you for your time." He said and turned to leave. Agent Mills, smiled sadly at the small family. Before he left, he passed a card to John.
"She maybe able to help." he said and then he too left. John glanced down at the card the agent had passed to him. It simply had a name and a number on it. Missouri Moseley. John didn't know this Missouri could help him or not, but he knew one thing for certain, he was going to hunt down and kill the thing that killed his Mary, if it was the last thing he did.
So what do you think?
