So I was rewatching Might Have Been at five in the morning (I stayed up until 7AM) and noticed how it's possible that Traci saw Miserable!Sam. And thus, this idea was born. If she did see it, I don't think that she would mention it after Andy tells her about the engagement. This was my take on it.
Enjoy the inner workings of my brain on limited amounts of sleep!
It was early on a Monday morning and all Traci wanted to do was get through the week. She already had a feeling it would be a long one but Jerry's dinner reservations on Friday would be completely worth it.
She walked into the locker room cheerfully, a bounce in her step. Andy was busy securing the buttons on her sleeves when Traci walked up and the two exchanged friendly hellos.
"Good night?" Andy asked absentmindedly, nervously wringing her left hand.
Traci laughed. "Oh yeah. Leo decided that we were going to watch Despicable Me but then yelled at me when I didn't microwave the right popcorn. The movie was good though." She spoke of her son fondly, a subconscious smile punctuating her words. "How 'bout you? Night in with your manly man?" she asked teasingly.
"Yeah, yeah."
Traci glanced at her friend and recognized that look. It was the same look she had had right before spilling about hooking up with Sam. Shifty gaze, nervous twitching. The girl was as readable as Leo's Magic School Bus books. "Okay, tell me what ever is on your hyperactive little mind."
A grin spread across Andy's face. "Got some new bling," she said offhandedly, like it was no big deal.
"Shut. Up."
The brunette held out her hand where a beautiful silver and diamond ring sparkled with its newness and popped her lips. It was simple and understated and didn't suit Andy at all.
It's true; the first thing that ran through Traci's mind was how fast it was happening. She had only met the blue-eyed detective a little over seven months ago and just recently moved in with the guy. But it was her life and Traci wasn't about to go around intruding on that. So she did what any best friend would do.
She squealed in happiness.
The two soon fell into an intense conversation involving venues, dresses, bridesmaids, entrees, and a million other wedding topics. But in the very back of her mind, Traci was thinking of someone other than the engaged pair.
She was thinking of the night of the undercover op, when Andy and Tori had been discussing their love lives together and Andy had turned her phone's mic on. Jerry, Traci, and Sam had all heard Andy admit that Luke has told her that he loves her. Traci had glanced up at Sam to see his seasoned officer reaction to how apparent the end of the case was. Instead, she saw the worst kind of heartbreak in his eyes, the worst kind of realization: that he was too late. She had even caught the slight nudge of his coffee cup when Tori had suggested a toast to Luke. And if that hadn't been the tell-tale signs, there was unmistakable panic in his features when Andy told Mackie to stop waving the gun around.
But that was beside the point. Andy was happy with Luke. Andy was her best friend. Traci was supposed to be happy for them.
She just couldn't shake the idea that maybe she had been wrong to tell Andy to put Sam Swarek on ice.
Isn't she supposed to want the best for her friend?
