A/N: So, I know this isn't my most popular story, but I still feel it needs to be finished. Taken me forever to actually get around to updating, but I plan on continuing this again. I hope you all enjoy this new chapter, always fun to get past writers block.
Summer Between Third and Fourth Year
Fred and George always hated trying to work on pranks from home. While they could get away with it, if their explosions got too big their mother would investigate. Thankfully, everyone in the house was so used to the small explosions that they ignored it as long as there was no smoke in the rest of the house.
Having given up on pranking with scents for now, they were trying to develop a different type of candy. The transfiguration candies were fun and all, but the effects were too easily reversed and didn't last anywhere near as long as either twin wanted. They needed something that couldn't be reversed instantly by someone who could figure out what charms they used.
"I'm starting to think we should have paid better attention in potions," Fred commented as they thought of how to move off of spell work. Too many spells had an immediate counterspell, but potions would continue until either the effects wore off on their own, or another potion was used to counter the effects of the first.
"That would only be helpful if there were potions that did what we wanted," George countered. "Snape doesn't teach us how to adjust or create potions, not even in his NEWT level class. We'd have to go for masteries before we would even get anywhere with that route."
Fred groaned and laid back on his bed. Why did pranking have to be so difficult sometimes?
George rolled his eyes and ran his fingers over Fred's chest and stomach lightly. They had still kept their affection to a minimum, but both of them were getting restless. That's not to say that they hadn't gotten closer. Fred and George had picked up on each others thoughts even more, and were spending more time alone together, even if nobody else noticed. And now was the perfect time to take advantage of their alone time.
Fred squirmed slightly and shifted closer to George. They may have been careful, but they knew most people wouldn't just barge into their room. Too many explosions at random times for that.
Taking advantage of the slight movement, George nuzzled and nipped at Fred's neck, always careful not to leave a mark. Fred mewled softly and ran his hands up George's side, making his twin bite a little harder. Fred's hands eventually found George's hair and tugged lightly. George immediately complied to the silent plea and lifted his head to kiss his twin. The two of them quickly devolved into a heated make out session, but pulled away before it could go further.
George groaned and panted lightly before he said, "We're never going to get anything done if we keep this up."
"At least I know that my kisses can keep you distracted for a month," Fred countered before stealing another kiss.
"Mmmmmm, keep that up and you'll have me distracted all summer."
"Nothing wrong with that."
After another few minutes of basking in their feelings for each other, the twins both sat up and stretched. 'Time to get to work,' Fred thought as he pulled one of their open books towards himself. They needed to find out what ingredients could be used in their new line of products, but they both knew it wouldn't be easy.
"On the bright side, we'll have our own vault soon," George said as they searched the textbooks. "We won't have to ward our trunks against every possibility again. Nice break after three years of exhausting ourselves."
Fred snorted in agreement. After turning a few more pages in the book he responded, "And mom thinks that we don't care about our work."
"So not true," George countered. "We just don't care for most of what we're learning at Hogwarts. Although charms and transfiguration are useful."
End of Summer, Diagon Alley
As usual, the twins were sent off with Perfect Percy to do their shopping. And, as always, it was incredibly easy to ditch him in the crowd. When they ducked into a small side alley Fred whispered, "His nose is so brown it covers his eyes."
"Definitely," George agreed. "He only spots rule breaking when someone holds up a sign that says 'We are about to break the rules. Come punish us!'"
Fred laughed and nodded in agreement. They checked the main alley again, and when they didn't see Percy they moved towards Gringotts at a near run. They had to get this done before Percy met back up with everyone else, and goblins were notoriously nasty little buggers when it came to taking up a wizards time.
The two moved through both sets of doors quickly and approached the nearest free goblin. Fred and George fidgeted slightly as the goblin finished the papers he was working on. Neither of them wanted to break his concentration, that was the easiest way to get their request denied.
"Yes," the goblin said impatiently after his paperwork was done.
"We would like to open our on vault," Fred said confidently.
"And you expect me to believe that two underage wizards have enough gold to do so?" the goblin responded with a cruel smirk. At that, the twins each pulled two, completely filled, bags out of their pockets.
"We've been saving up for three years, and will have more to deposit the next time we come in," George said when the goblins eye's widened.
"We understand that it will take at least half of this to cover the protection expenses," Fred continued.
"But we are more than willing to spend that if the goblin nation will protect our gold,"
"We will even give the goblin nation an extra 5% if it is done today," Fred finished. The goblin seemed impressed with their boldness.
"You have researched well. Fine, we will sort out your vaults, you just need to sign these papers," the goblin said after studying them. The twins signed the papers quickly, barely wincing when they had to use a special quill that cut into their hands for the last form. They each took 20 Galleons for themselves and gave the rest to the goblin to sort out.
"Here are keys to your new vault," the goblin said with a smile, showing all of his teeth. "I have a feeling it will be a pleasure doing business with you boys in the future."
Fred and George thanked him and left Gringotts happily. They even managed to catch up with Percy and get all of their supplies before meeting up with their mother.
"This could be a good year," Fred commented as they left.
"Of course," George agreed. "We're going to be able to open our shop soon, brother."
