Into the Abyss
As Light's world faded into darkness he felt a strange sensation in his chest. It was a feeling of complete emptiness. Now that he was crossing over into a new world he would no longer require that organ for sustenance. However he was soon to find that this led to another urging sensation that welled up inside until it began to drive him into madness
The hunger...
The hunger would guide him into this new world. He recalled those words that Ryuuk etched into his conscious so long ago.
"Those who use the Death note can neither go to Heaven nor Hell."
So here he was in this purgatory plain of endless sands. Each grain representing a year he would have to endure this torture. The torture of nothingness. The torture of emptiness.
The hunger ensues...
He opened his mouth but no words would come out. He also found that his jaw was quite heavy. Come to think of it he was beginning to grow and change shape. The pain erupted in every bone, every muscle and every cell as his body mutated into a new being. Something that would represent his true nature...A ravenous beast, on the verge of hunger each and every waking moment...
Damn this hunger
He observed his hand, well what he once knew as his hand. It was large and dark, covered in thick hide with deadly sharp claws at the end of each finger. He felt a huge burden on his shoulders. He rustled his back releasing that heaviness.
It seems I have wings...
He craned his long neck, acknowledging the bodily extensions. He had the wings of a demon. He smiled as he became acquainted with his new form.
Maybe things won't be so bad here after all...
But he still had to deal with the hunger...The hunger that would soon erode this new soul he had claimed.
Finally he found his nirvana in the form of a large bat-like demon. Flapping his wings, he soared over to his prey in an instant, knocking him to the sandy earth before he had the chance to fight back. This would be Light's new purpose. Though he had failed to become the god of a new world he would find solace in taking down other lost souls in this desolate dimension. As the beast struggled to break free from Light's grasp he gained a sense of euphoria. His stomach was filled by the feast of another battle for survival. In this world he is no God, he is just another animal, struggling to exist on the edge of survival.
The prey snarled and snapped violently at Light's wrists, desperate to live another day. To live another day of hunger. Light eased his grip when he had an epiphany.
What's the point of survival if we are constantly struggling on the edge of existence? I have been demoted to something comparable to an animal. I really have made a terrible mistake winding up with that cursed notebook.
The other demon tore out Light's arm as he was freed from his tormentor's grip. Light watched on as the monster devoured his leg, his wings, his entire body. After only a brief existence in this form he would soon become another part of the conglomeration of consumed souls before him.
That's it! Eat me up! Eat me all up! Every last bit! I was to be the God of the new world, not some low level beast like yourself! I would rather die once more than to live this sort of afterlife!
But Light would soon find out that this was not to be the end. He was now in an even worse predicament. His mind had been preserved with countless others that resided within this demon. When he was that creature he had the freedom to roam the plains of this endless night. Now he would forever remain in a state of complete darkness. His body no longer existed. Only his thoughts and lost dreams of a new and prosperous world...
