Macavity growled and took a step closer to me. I took a step back, and felt my hind paws slip. Before I knew what was happening, I was slipping off the cliff.
"Tumble! No!" I heard Eta scream. She dashed forward and scrambled furiously for my paw. She caught it and I smiled gratefully at her. Suddenly, she slipped to, and she was holding onto the edge with one paw and grasping my paw in the other. She looked down at me.
"I won't let you fall," she whispered.
She heaved with all her might and swung me up so I was gripping the ledge too. I climbed up with her following me. All of the sudden, there was a crack as the rock crumbled beneath her.
"Eta!" I screamed. I grabbed for her paw, but it slipped out of my grasp, and she fell far down into the churning black water, her amber eyes wide with fear.
I turned to Macavity, snarling.
"Relax runt," he growled. "She can just swim to shore."
"No," I whispered. "Eta can't swim."
Macavity's eyes widened a bit. I don't think he'd intended to kill a harmless kitten. Suddenly, there was a flash of sparks, and a very familiar Queen appeared next to him.
"Hi Tumble," Jemaara purred. "Long time no see."
I took a swipe at her. "Get out of here you piece of Pollicle crap! And take that murderer with you!"
Her beautiful green eyes narrowed sinisterly. "You'd better watch yourself, Tumble," she growled, and they both disappeared. I turned to look over the cliff. I expected not to see her, but there she was! Her red head bobbing above the water. Before my eyes, it vanished under the water.
"Hang on Eta!" I yelled.
Without thinking twice, I took a running start, and leaped over the cliff.
