This is new, and hopefully improved, Sin Academy. The plot is still the same but there is some differences, both big and small. I'm using a different program from before so the text is different and the spell check is a little more butt kicking. Basically, I have to do it myself. It'll be good for me though. Another difference is the POV. I changed it to third person so I can add some extra scenes and a tad more drama. The biggest change is Sakura's attitude. I personally think she starts off really mean and closed off. I don't know how that happened but it works for now.
Please enjoy.
Chapter 1: Chapter 1
Sakura has always hated her life, but this time she was pretty sure it has officially hit rock bottom. It can't possibly get any worse than this very moment. Her parents have been talking about divorce since she was about six. Now, She's sixteen and they decided to take it to court. Sakura wishes that she could say that they spent those ten years working out their issues, but the truth of the matter is, they only worked on alcoholism and marijuana. The divorce it's self isn't what made this whole ordeal unbearable, what does is that her mom is abusive and an alcoholic which made the blows harder and more painful. Her father tries but he's been addicted to antidepressants since his little episode of depression back in his years of high school. Not to mention his love of Marijuana. So, Sakura thinks, the court case is bound to be the craziest one yet for the judge. As for Sakura, the judge thinks it's safer to carry her off to another school. Another Academy on the dark side of town. A school, She's never heard of. Even Google couldn't find it and she spent hours on the little project. Now she's traveling in a police cruiser to her new temporary home. She peered into the back seat at her stuff piled high through the passenger side mirror, then sighed. The police officer took peeks at her through the corner of his eye every now and then. Sakura assumed she came across a little too calm for this situation. Quite frankly, she was looking forward to the new scenery. Not to mention, the peace and quiet. Sakura ignored him and watched the town go by. It started out just another happy city. Buildings standing with pride and their windows sparkled in the sunlight. Citizens walked happily down the side walk, talking as if the world could never end. Smiles everywhere. Then as we past the only trash spotted in the street for miles, the town faded into nothingness. The bottle was half full of expired whisky from there the perfect side walk crumbles and the glow was darkened. The buildings had lot all pride. Windows were just holes with no glass to sparkle with. Most have fallen in or burned. There was one that was still burning, or at the least blacken smoke appeared from it, and yet, no sound of any help on its way. Even the sky faded into black clouds leaving the city to be its own shadow. Very few people dared to walk these streets, though they walk down them like angels walk in heaven. No shame.
"You been here before?" The police officer asked in an attempt to create a conversation. He can't handle silence and learn to love it. This was the third time he tried to create a conversation with her.
"No." She said simply. A conversation with a police officer is just not an interest she has at the moment.
"Oh, you just seem calm about this." He said.
"If poison is inevitable then might as well drink till the last drop." She stated with a smile and ignored the sadden expression that displayed on his face. They past a bar called Ai Shinu with people piling in and dancing out on the street. I felt the vibrations of the pounding music as we drove by. Nothing but party goers forgetting their troubles. She saw the disgusted glares from the people who took notice of the police car. Some even threw rocks. Good thing they're drunk, otherwise they might have actually hit the car.
"Looks like a fun place to make friends." He obviously didn't notice anything about it.
"It's a bar."
"Yeah…well that doesn't mean you can't meet friends there." He said trying to make this situation sound good. Impossible.
"I'm only sixteen."
"Oh" From there it was quiet. Finally, Sakura thought.. They pulled up to an iron gate connected to a black brick wall surrounding the area. The brick wall was covering with a dead looking vine with huge, sharp thorns. The leaves even looked deadly. The gates open as soon as we pulled up. The grass, like everything else, seemed dead. There was at least five maybe six buildings towering before us. They all looked like old, Victorian style mansions from the 1860's. Of course, they weren't as abandon as they look. Students were everywhere and they didn't look nice. Students walked about, all showing their obvious distaste of the police car. The car pulled to the front the of the main building. The police officer took her bags out of his back seat and handed them to her. As he did this, Sakura carefully examined the main building. It was covered in red colored messages. She saw a group of students passing a knife around cutting the tips of their fingers and then write on the walls. "The office is the first door you see when you entered." He said, grabbing her attention away from the students.
"You're not going to show me around?"
"Forget it kid. This place gives me the creeps." He said as he got in his car.
"You must me new." She shouted to him with a smirk.
He only shook his head and drove off. Being on her own from here couldn't be bad. "Whimp", She whispered as she dug out her phone from the back pocket of her jeans. She thought she would let her dad know that she made it to the school. Despite being a pain in the ass, she honestly didn't mind communicating with her dad. He's the most sane out of the two.
"Hi." She looked up mid text. A girl about her age stood there staring at her. She was pale, like sunlight was a new thing to the world. She had long dark hair that reached her waist. She was wearing a short sleeve, blue and gray striped dress that stopped mid thigh and matching blue wedges. A light brown, leather belt was wrapped tightly around her waist. The freaky thing about her was her eyes. They were pearl colored, almost like they were see through. Everything about her screamed name brand. Hello money, she thought. Although, Sakura was excited to see that there was no uniforms required at the school.
"Hi," She responded with a smile then went back to her phone.
"Welcome to Sin Academy." The girl said. Sakura looked up and muttered a thanks, but she kept staring with that little smile.
"Is there anything else?"
"No, not yet. You're not ready."
"You must be the president of the welcoming committee because you are totally not making me feel uncomfortable at all." Sakura joked, sliding her phone back to her back pocket, taking note that the girl's expression never changed. Great, someone who doesn't speak sarcasm.
"My name is Hinata." Sakura sighed feeling already a little defeated.
"Well, Hinata, would you like to help me carry my things? I really don't know where anything is." With a small giggle, her smile grew, then shook her head.
"Sorry, I need to get to class." She said. Yet, she still stood there.
"Well, by all means, be on your way. We'll finish our girl talk later." Sakura said. Hinata giggled then started digging through her baby blue, half moon shaped satchel purse. Clearly, it was brand name as well. Miss Hinata comes from a lot of money, Sakura thought looking over her attire again, big money. She handed Sakura a card. The number B46-B was typed on the card in gold lettering. "Our roommates are very excited to meet you. They should be home when you get there. Oh, which reminds me." She said taking a key out of her purse and handing it to her. It was on a key chain with a pink, metal cherry blossom. "This is your key." Before she walked away, Sakura gently grabbed her shoulder, stopping her in her six inch wedges.
"Did you say roommates? And more importantly did you say our roommates? I was informed that I was receiving a private dorm."
"Oh, you were, but I couldn't allow that."
"You couldn't," Sakura repeated.
"No, that wouldn't be fun. Who wants to be transferred to a new school mid semester and start off all alone? This way you get three automatic friends right off bat. Besides, we had an an empty room going to waste."
"Three? The dorms can hold four people?" Sakura questioned. Hinata stepped closer to her, putting her face near Sakura's as she looked around.
"Our dorm is a little...different. Listen, building B is just past the science building and it's the only gender mix dorm. Go in, make yourself comfortable and we'll talk at dinner."
"Hinata," Sakura started. She wanted to tell her that she didn't want roommates and friends. She wanted peace and quiet and to just finish school, either here or back at the old, then move away from the city of Konoha. As Hinata stared at Sakura though, with those big eyes and small smile, she honestly couldn't. So, Sakura chickened out. "Thank you. It sounds like you went to a lot of trouble and I appreciate it." This is wasn't a lie, just not what Sakura really wanted to say. Hinata said no more as she waved good bye and left. With one last look at the keys and card in my her, She stuffed them into her front pocket. She swung her duffle bag and messenger bag over her right shoulder and carried her last duffle bag and walked into the building. She noticed that blood was everywhere inside as well as the outside.
Sakura saw a fight immediately. Right when she entered, the fight came about in the hall right next to the front entrance. One guy was on the ground being strangled and the guy on top was choking him with one hand and the other held a pocket knife. There was a teacher nearby but only watched with amusement as well as the crowd of students that piled up around them. The crowd was encouraging the fight. The boy on top then stabbed the other boy's shoulder. Blood splattering all over is hand and the boy's shoulder. The teacher laughed the loudest. He cried in pain and then was kicked by the crowd. It blew my mind how a fight could have gone that far without teachers interference. And why wasn't that teacher stopping them? Why was he encouraging it? These thoughts swirled in Sakura's head as she took a deep breath, trying to ignore the screams of pain, and walked into the office. She's survived a couple of rag tag schools before, the best thing to do was always to ignore and move on like nothing is happening. So she did just that. The lady at the front desk didn't take notice of her entrance. Even when the door rattled when it shut and one of her duffle bags taking a hard fall to the ground
"Excuse me?" She said politely. She didn't look up from her book. "Excuse me." She tried again. No response. "Excuse me!" Nothing. Sakura slammed her hand on the desk and the lady jerked up with an evil glare. It didn't faze Sakura. "Mind helping me?" She asked.
"Fine, what do you want?" She barked.
"I am Sakura Haruno, the new transfer student." She said impatiently. The lady started digging through her files and piles of papers and slammed two or three on the desk next to my hand. She showed me the red sheet first. It was the map of the area and her classes was stared on the buildings they were in plus what floor and room number. The cafeteria was also starred in the main building. Then she starred the girls' dorms and wrote down my room number. It was the same number on the card Hinata had gave her. "I already had to give these to your roommate. Let's try not to loose anything."
"Okay, fine." Sakura muttered, picking up her remaining duffle bag. She walked out and noticed the fight was still going on, but the screams of pain were gone. She couldn't see the boy anymore. Sakura stood there, waiting for any sign of him. Nothing. A teacher walked past me and said something to the observing teacher still having a laughing fit. Sakura didn't hear what was said until the response.
"No, no. He's dead. We can just throw this brat in the pond out back in the garden." Then both teachers laughed. They were talking about the boy on the ground, Sakura realized. He couldn't really be dead. And just be laughing about it. While watching other students kick his lifeless corpse and mock him cruelly. No school would be that stupid. Although, Sakura really couldn't help but wonder, what have her parents gotten her into this time? A few students turned and looked at her with evil glares. She had no desire to be in the next body bag…or pond, but that doesn't mean she didn't need to hold her ground. Kids are cruel and will pounce at the first sign of weakness. She grew up moving school to school, so lucky Sakura have had a couple of years of practice. With that thought, she held her head up high and walked across the way like she owed it. No one bothered her It doesn't matter rather not she had confidence, she just had to show it.
Crossing the yard, heading to the direction Hinata pointed out, was quiet. There wasn't a lot of students around, even inside the building, but what little students surrounded the area all gave her evil glares and looks of disgust. Did everyone see her show up in the cop's car, she wondered. Or maybe she looked disgusting? She wore a dark red, spaghetti strap tank top and blue jeans with black and white converse. Her hair was down to cover her face mostly and she washed it this morning so it would look decent. She didn't understand why they were acting this way. Then again, if this school is anything like the gang loving schools she's been to before, then new comers are never welcome. She entered with a deep breath then let go of it once she saw how big of a mess the lobby of the dormitory was. Both genders, most half naked, were running around, fighting, making out, and throwing anything and everything at each other. It reminded her of college parties in the movies. The boys called out crude comments and whistled at her as she walked walls had ancient paintings but the frames and glass cover splattered with blood. It was hard to tell some but those that she could see were paintings of bloody, horrific wars. She dodged objects being thrown and cat fights till she reached the stairs. The second floor was all dorm rooms and no better than the lobby. With only twenty-five rooms per floor, she had to climb up to the third floor. She looked down at the card Hinata gave me. None of the signs she was able to read through the hall and up the stairs said anything about B46-B. She was able to find B46. The door was standing wide open and clearly occupied. Also, not the right room. It was a private room. I stood at the the end of the hall, tyring to figure out what paper would help her.
A girl bumped into her and threw something at a guy that ran out of the room she was standing next to.
"Get out!" She screamed while pushing Sakura out of the way. He must have been hiding from her, Sakura thought. The girl was indeed beautiful. Tall, womanly like body and dull blonde hair pulled into four ponytails. She wore only a white towel wrapped tightly around her body but not doing a very good job of covering up. She shot me a glare. "What do you want?"
"To know where this is.." Sakura handed her the card. With a sneer, she took it, then handed it back. She pointed down the hall she just walked.
"Take that first left," She said, "It's on the left."
"Thank you." Sakura walked past her to find her dorm room.
"Good luck, mortal." She called over her shoulder. Sakura stopped long enough to watch the girl disappear back into her room. Sakura decided to ignore her and do as she was told. It seemed a lot darker compared to the other levels. The turn she was suppose to take was blocked by a yellow, metal gate was stretched out from wall to wall with a sign that said 'Under Construction'. Sakura quickly looked around. No one was paying her any mind, so she moved one side of the gate and moved it back behind floor definitely creaked more. She also noticed the lack of numbers on the doors to the right. The left was just a single door. Sakura knocked on it but no answer. She looked around a bit before she knocked on one of the doors, but no one came. She tried the next one. Nothing. That entire floor was abandoned, left hall was empty too. She jiggled one of the door knobs. It was locked. It actually matched the 1860 mansion theme. Cobwebs in every corner, dust covered paintings to a point where Sakura couldn't tell what it is even after she wiped the dust off. The rug that lined the hallway was battered, torn and faded. Sakura started to wonder if the girl lied to her. Maybe her room was on some other floor. This has got to be some kind of joke, she thought. Sakura could picture the girl giggling and boasting about tricking the newbie with all her friends. With a defeat sigh, walked back the yellow gate and leaned against the opposite wall from exhaustion. She's been carrying three bags of luggage up three flights of stairs. At this point, Sakura was hoping to run into Hinata again. She threw her messenger bag, which was the lightest at the single door to her right. She sighed once again. She looked over the door. She dropped my remaining bags and dug out the key Hinata had gave her. After a short pause, she decided to give the door a chance. She stuck the key in and to her surprise, it fit. She made the turn and the door actually creaked open. She stood there staring at the opening, for a while, thinking she was in an episode of Scooby-Doo. She slowly opened the door, reaching for the a light switch with her free hand. Sakura gasped when the light came on. Hinata must not be the only roommate with money. The living room was beautiful beyond anything Sakura has seen. Sparkling pale, gray tile lined up the floor like it was brand new. Pearly white walls with sketches and paintings hung perfectly. The white sectional could seat six people. It curved around so three of the seats' backs were facing her. Sakura ran her hand over the fabric. She instantly fell in love with it. She picked up one of the white, gray and black striped pillows and hugged it. It smelled of ocean fresh fabreeze. Sakura couldn't recall ever living in a clean house. She looked over to the white, three seated couch with matching pillows. The roommates must love guests, Sakura thought. Inviting a lot of guests was another idea she wasn't use to. The sofas surrounded a gray, wooden table with a white vase filled with fake yellow tulips. Across from her is a stair case the curves up behind a rectangle stone structure that reaches the roof. A fire place with gas logs was built in with a shelve made from stone hanging just above it with pictures and a bonsai tree. Higher on the structure was an iron clock with roman numbers. Above it all was crystal glass chandelier with a black frame. Sakura could very much see her self living here, roommates or no roommates. Sakura dropped the pillow and dove for her stuff in the hall. After dragging all her bags in, she started digging through each one until she found exactly what she was looking for. She made sure her Polaroid camera was ready before aiming it at the tulips. She took a shot then waited patiently as it the photo printed out. She waved it about as dried. After a few seconds, she examined the little photo. Sakura beamed at photo, thinking the lighting in the room was perfect. She quickly sat down on the end seat of the sectional while looking around the room. She pondered whether the fire place would be a good idea with it being off. As she set the picture down, she saw a white tea cup. She waved her hand over it, feeling the slight heat from the contents inside. Although it was no longer steaming, it was still fresh. Sakura set the camera down on the table as she stood.
"Hello?" She called, "Hello?" She was hearing no sound from anywhere. Sakura was sure that if any body was there, they were more than likely up stairs. Sakura was also sure that her call wasn't loud enough to be heard upstairs.
"Shut up!" A female voice laughed. Sakura whirled around. The voice was coming from outside the apartment. Sakura braced herself as she watched the door knob turn and the door start to open. Two girls stopped dead in their tracks the instant they notice Sakura. All Sakura could manage was a wave. The first girl was tall and lean. She had long blonde hair pulled into a pony tail. She wore black designer jeans with a white tank top and teal blazer and matching pumps. The second girl had dark brown hair french braided and hanging over her shoulder. It surprised Sakura to see this girl in ripped jeans with a baggy t shirt and sneakers.
"Who the hell are you?" The blonde asked angrily.
"Well..."
"Tell me what you want?!" She shouted. "What are you even doing here?"
"I'm your new roommate." Shocked covered her face. She grew angry but then shock took over. She looked over to her brunette friend, who looked even more shocked, then back at Sakura.
"No, really, why are you here?"
"My name is Sakura Haruno, the transfer student. Your roommate gave me this," she held up the card from the pocket and handed it to the blonde, "And said that we'll all be roommates."
"Ah! So, Sakura is your name? Welcome." The brunette greeted with a smile.
"Yes, welcome," The blonde said. "My name is Ino and this is Tenten. It's our turn to make dinner so why don't you go upstairs and take a look at your room. You look like you could use some rest."
"Um, thank you." Tenten picked up her luggage and walked towards the stairs. Sakura noticed how the brunette walked around her, adding more space than necessary. She carefully laid the bags down.
"Hinata worked on making your room perfect for you." She said, "And knowing her, she'll want to help you unpack. You can settle after dinner." Sakura looked between the girls. Something about this just didn't feel right with her. They only smiled at her. Ino's was the easiest to see that it was fake. Tenten on the other hand, might actually has some real to it, but Sakura highly doubted it.
"I like to unpack by my self", she said to the waiting brunette.
"That's fine." She said. "Hinata will understand. Allow me to carry your things up to your room. It's the white door with the pink sticky note. It has your name on it." Sakura raised an eyebrow at her.
"I thought you were going to carry my things" With a chuckle, Tenten pointed to the coffee table.
"My tea. I would like to finish before it gets cold. I won't be long." Sakura shrugged and took the step to the stairs.
Tenten watched her new roommate go up the stairs. The instant she could no longer see her, Tenten turned on her heel to face Ino. "What the hell do we do now?!" She asked. "I mean hello! This isn't good."
"We'll deal with it." Ino said with hesitance. Her high heels clanked on the hardwood floor as she reached the bottom of the stairs. She peered up the stairs, listening for her new roommate. "As far as we know, Hinata may never want her to know the truth. She'll stay, she'll go to school, then she'll leave and we'll go back to having a storage room." She whispered. Ino picked up Sakura's bags and shoved them into Tenten's arms. "Here, take these. Hinata will be home soon. We'll see what she wants to do."
"But my tea!"
"Later!" Ino said pushing her up the stairs. "Go make friends. Go!"
Sakura was shocked entering the room. It was about the same size as her old room back at home, but much bigger than any dorm. There was window hidden behind red curtains on the opposite wall. The bed was right beside it with matching covers. It had a dark gray vine with black roses for a pattern. A dark brown wooden chest was at the end of the bed and next to that was a matching drawer for her clothes. On the other side was a computer desk with a computer, which surprised her by how updated it was. The whole thing was high tech from the Skinny screen, wireless mouse, and key board. It was the most recent model advertised on tv with whatever TV celeb the world is obsessed about. Her last school never had this nice of equipment, not even for teachers. For crying out loud, the computer looked like it was never used. Next to it was a bookcase filled with books. All literature classics.
"I hope you like it." Tenten said standing in the door way. She laid her bags down next to the bed.
"I do. It's…similar to my old room." Sakura said, taking a seat at the computer. Sakura turned the chair to face Tenten. She tossed Sakura's biggest bag onto the bed and started to unpack, laying folded clothes on the bed. "It's homey." Sakura said, watching her lay clothes out on the bed.
"I heard you were only here for a short time." She said. making small piles of outfits that didn't really match. "How long?"
"Until my parents settle their argument in court."
"Sucks." Tenten said, pushing the bag into the floor. She sat down on the bed, next to all the little piles of clothes. She looked down as if looking into Sakura's bag It bothered Sakura. She never liked people going through or looking at her stuff like that, but she didn't really seem to be looking into her bag. She was feeling awkward. "What are they fighting over?"
"Me." Sakura admitted. "They both want custody."
"At least they care. But why are you here?"
"The judge is afraid with their history, they might do something stupid like kidnap me or something. I guess they wanted to make sure the court case goes as smoothly as possible." She explained her theory. "I'll be here only about a few months, but that's just my guess though. I don't really know how long I'll be here. And just to be clear, they don't care."
"Well however long you stay, we hope you like it." She chimed. "We tried to make the room to your liking."
"Don't count on me staying. I doubt I'll be here more than half a year." Sakura said. At this point, Tenten was just digging through Sakura's bag with her foot, counting shirts and other clothing items and purposely loosing count.
"We shall see." Her smile creeped Sakura out as Tenten looked over her shoulder at wall. Something about this girl told Sakura that she shouldn't trust her. Her expression went from happy to surprised. Her smile came back as she jumped off the bookcase. "Excuse me. Ino is calling me." She walked out closing the door behind her. Sakura raised an eyebrow as she watched her leave. She never heard a voice, but at least now she could unpack in peace.
"Pardon her." Sakura squealed at the voice. It was that weird girl from earlier. Sakura inwardly cursed. What was her name, Hinata?
"What?" She was standing in the door way, shuffling what looked like tarot cards.
"She's over excited about having you around." She explained.
"Oh." Sakura sat down on the bed, looking at her whiling shoving mini piles of clothes out of the way. "Did you need something?" She asked politely.
"No." She said, walking in. "I was wondering if you wanted a prediction."
"A prediction? On what?" She scoffed. Hinata giggled at her response.
"Anything. The cards knows all. Ask me anything." She begged. Not wanting to be rude, Sakura scrambled her mind for anything she could "predict" but nothing came to mind. Instead, she shook her head. "Would you like to know about your stay here?" She suggested. Sakura had to admit, that was not a bad idea. That would be good to know, even if it is fake. A little humor would be nice. With all the weird things that she came across so far at the academy, it wouldn't hurt. Sakura nodded. Hinata took the steps to the computer desk as she flipped through her cards and laid them out in a pattern Sakura couldn't really figure out. Sakura suspected this was a die hard habit for her. Her movements were quick and was nothing short of pure confidence.
"It is set." She said. She picked up the last card she put down and giggled. "It seems you will find great happiness here. You will get close to all three of us very soon. You will become, as you mortals say, popular with only a few good close friends. You and I will be very close."
"That's good to know." Though, no way it could be true. Sakura couldn't imagine her and fancy pants having much girl talk.
"Let's see what else we could predict…" She thought out loud.
"I have a question, Hinata." Sakura admitted.
"Yes?" She said, shuffling the cards. The sparkle in her eye told Sakura she was waiting to do another prediction.
"I want to know why everyone keeps calling me mortal." She seemed more surprised. "I mean, you all are mortals too, right?" Again her expression was shocked.
"No one has told you of this place?" She asked with a shaky voice.
"No." She grew sad as if she was scared of something. She then took a deep a ragged breath.
"We are not humans." She whispered. "We are sin."
