Author's Note: A little bit of an angsty one-shot. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: What do you think?

Despite common belief, Kiba does not love Hinata.

She is not a sister to him, for he feels no affection for her.

Everyone believes that he loves her, looking at him with such pity (did he know he would never beat Naruto?), and he lies to them, telling them she is grace, she is beauty, the moon and the stars.

But Kiba has never really liked the moon.

Hyuuga were like poison-they took what they wanted, and never gave back. Hinata was no different. Despite the smiles and timid façade that she offered up to the guileless shinobi of the village, she was cruel and calculating. That's why he encouraged the foundationless rumors-that he loved her, that he loathed Uzumaki for stealing her. What rabble. He loathed Uzumaki, not for her ardor, but for his tactless and witless attitude towards life. What right did he have to claim to be the next hokage when all he could muster was furious chakra without a clue how to use it?

Sometimes he wished the Akatsuki would find him.

However, this was not about Naruto, and the loathing he felt for that witless shinobi was only a fraction of the immeasurable hatred he felt for Hinata. He wished that Neji had killed her while he had the chance.

Kiba had never thought he could hate anyone more than Hinata. That was before she brought him to the Hyuuga compound. She had offered and he had pretended to be delighted, while loathing the idea. When they had finally achieved their destination, he saw a flash of blue-purple-black hair, and shuddered at the thought of meeting another Hyuuga. Not all of them wore a pretty mask to hide what they were, and their holier-than-thou attitude really pissed him off.

A few months later, he was well acquainted with Hyuuga Hanabi. She was completely unlike her sister. Hanabi did not bother to hide her horrid nature. As a matter of fact, she flaunted it. She was cold, she was arrogant, and she was prideful.

A year afterwards, they could be seen exchanging verbal barbs on rainy afternoons, the ones where she was not forced to train incessantly. He no longer spent as much time with Hinata. In his eyes, Hinata was a saint to her devil. His teammate had ceased to seem as evil. Now he had his sister on his mind, constantly wishing for her termination of existence.

Three years after their first meeting, Hanabi is ANBU. Kiba is still a jounin.

Two weeks later, Hanabi went on her first S-class mission.

A month later, the village had to accept that she was not coming back from that mission.

As Kiba stood at her gravestone, he stared incredulous at the tears streaming down his face. He had hated her, after all, and he convinced himself that they were tears of regret-at not being there to see her demise. Not seeing the hopelessness of her fate, and watching the inevitable shutting down of her brain and heart.

However, he didn't believe that it was so.

After all, there is a fine line between love and hate. Too bad he hadn't noticed his inevitable crossing before it was too late.

Three days after Hanabi's death, Kiba applied for ANBU.

A week after that, he was assigned to his first S-ranked mission.

Everyone knew that he wouldn't be coming back.

Author's note: Sorry, I have an affinity for unhappy endings……

Reviews make my day and inspire me to write new stories.

Also, I will be accepting requests for stories. I can write fanfics for Bleach, Crimson Hero, Rosario+Vampire, Kingdom Hearts, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Sola, and Naruto.

The only pairings I will not accept are Shikamarux someone other than Temari or anything involving Nejix someone besides Tenten and vice versa.
