The final chapter of this second story of my Infinity series. Have your tissues ready if you need them.

Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who.

Wilfred had helped the Doctor back to the Tardis while Jack Harkness carried very tired Rose. Baby Donna had found herself in the arms of her older sister Jenny, which the infant wasn't too happy about. Little Jack, however, had lead the way back to the Tardis and even got the ship to open her doors when he snapped his fingers.

"Are going to tell me what happened to you, Doc?" Jack ask softly, trying hard not to wake a dosing Rose.

"Later." The Doctor says in reply. "But first I need to take Wilfred back home."

Once inside of his ship, the Doctor makes sure that everyone is aboard before sending her back to Wilfred's house. Keeping his eyes on the controls, the Doctor only does a quick glance up to see Harkness carry Rose towards the medbay. He also notices that Jenny is quick to follow with Donna in her arms. Though he can't put his finger on it, but for some reason, Jenny's time line feels off to the Doctor. And so does little Jack's.

Within a short amount of time, the Doctor has the Tardis land on a familiar street. Looking over at Wilfred, the Doctor gives the old man a pained smile.

"We've arrived." The Doctor says to Wilfred before heading towards the doors.

Wilfred is quick to follow the Doctor to the doors, and he can't help but wonder what the Doctor and his family are going to do next. Wilfred comes to a stop by the doors and looks at the Doctor. He pulls the Time Lord into a hug and after several minutes lets go of his grand-daughter's friend. Taking a deep breath, Wilfred goes ahead and opens the doors to the Tardis.

Stepping outside of the doors, Wilfred takes in his surroundings. The street is quiet and void of people, but standing in the door way of a particular house is Wilfred's daughter. So Wilfred takes several steps away from the Tardis to make his way back home.

"Oh, she's smiling." The Doctor says from his place outside of the Tardis' doors. "As if today wasn't bad enough. Anyway… I don't think that this is goodbye, Wilfred. I'll see you again, one more time."

"What do you mean?" Wilfred asks as he has turned to look at the Doctor. "When's that?"

"Just keep looking. I'll be there."

"Where you going?"

"To take care of my family and get my reward." The Doctor says in reply before stepping back inside of the Tardis.

With the door closed, the Doctor makes his way up to the console and sends the Tardis to the next destination. Deep inside of his body, the energy of regeneration is building and wanting to be released. Yet the Doctor is doing everything he can to keep from regenerating till he has seen his family to a safe place.

"Doc?" Jack Harkness's voice says from the hallway entrance to the console room. "You alright?"

The Doctor looks over at his former companion, who still feels wrong thanks to the man being a fixed point in time, but doesn't say a word. He gives Jack a once over and realizes that the Captain looks older than the last time he had seen the man.

"How long, Jack."

"How long what, Doc?"

"Since last we saw each other. And why Jenny and Jack feel several weeks older than when I last saw them."

Jack Harkness lets out a heavy sigh before replying to the Doctor's question.

"For me, it's been four years. As for your two kids, I don't know. One minute I had just finished reversing my curse being placed on the Earth. Then the next moment, I come face-to-face with an older looking version of myself. In his arms was Jenny, who looked like she took one hell of a beating. He even had little Jack wrapped around one of his legs. Now I know what you're thinking, two versions of me in one place at the same time, but nothing happened. No paradox. So the other me left Jenny in my care, along with Jack. Seeing how bad Jenny's injuries were, I took them both to the best hospital in the universe. It the Nuns only a few hours to heal the external injuries that Jenny sustained, and only three days for her internal injuries to fully heal. Then we left the hospital, but my vortex manipulator wouldn't hone in on the Tardis properly. So, I tried to hone in on you and Rose, but again, we kept getting sent somewhere else."

The Doctor takes in the information that the Captain has given him and the differences in the time lines makes sense now. Somehow the Time Vortex had kept the three from arriving into the fixed point that Rose and the Doctor had been part of.

"I see you and Rosie have a new baby. Rosie said you named her Donna."

"Yeah."

"You don't sound excited like a new father should. I mean, Doc, you got to witness the birth of your child. You should be more excited, especially since you missed your son's birth."

"I'm going to die, Jack."

"What?"

"Right now I can feel the regeneration energy building, but I am trying to suppress it."

"Isn't that dangerous?"

"It is. But I need to see Rose and my family to safety, before I die."

"Why? Doc, they should be here on the Tardis with you."

"Not this time, Jack. I was told that I am going to die."

"But you're regenerating."

"Doesn't matter. Regeneration can go wrong, which has happened twice to me already. However, regeneration energy is still present even when a Time Lord is no longer able to regenerate."

"So you're just going to give up. You're not going to fight or find some way to cheat this? What is your family going to do if you're not around? What about Rose? She has a new baby to take care of, and what you're saying is that she will be raising it by herself."

The Doctor walks slowly towards Jack and locks eyes with him. "But she won't be alone."

"No. Doc, no. I can't take your place in your family dynamic."

"I'm not asking you to take my place. All I am asking is that you look after them. I don't know what is going to happen with this regeneration, and I want to make sure that my family is taken care of."

The Doctor pulls out an envelope from his pant pockets and hands it to Jack.

"I need you to give this to Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart. You will find him at Unit's main headquarters. Unit used to pay me when I worked for them back in the day. However, I rarely ever used the money and had Alistair set the money up into a high yield savings account. I don't know exactly how much is in the account, but that letter there will tell Alistair to bequeath the money to Rose. She will be able to use it in any way she sees fit."

"But where will you be dropping us off?"

"I believe Sarah Jane once invited us the use of her home if we were ever in need."

"So you're going to be leaving Rosie and the kids with Sarah Jane?"

"Till Rose can get a hold of the money and finds her own place, yes."

Jack takes the offered envelope from his friend and tucks it safely into his long coat's inside pocket. Then he gives the Doctor a salute.

"I'll keep an eye on them and keep them safe. That's my promise to you, Doc."

"Thank you, Jack."

Then the Doctor does something that he hasn't done in a long time. He pulls his former companion into a quick hug.

"Wow, Doc. I didn't know you cared that much."

Jack wraps his arms around the Doctor and gives his friend a squeeze. Then, knowing that the Doctor isn't going to be wanting this hug to last, lets his friend go. The two of them make their way over to the console to double check that they are in the right place and time.

"Doctor." Rose says softly as she shuffles into the console room with a dressed baby Donna in her arms.

Earlier, when Jack Harkness had taken Rose to the Medbay, the Tardis had already prepared the nanogenes that had been secreted away by the former Time Agent back when her thief was all ears and brooding. Once Rose was in the Medbay, the Tardis had released them and some of her own time energy to help Rose recover. Now, the ship was pleased to see her Thief, Wolf, and children were doing well. But she knew that her thief's time is coming to an end.

Rose, having changed into blue jeans and a three-quarter sleeved purple and white shirt, walks further into the console room. Keeping a firm hold on her daughter, Rose walks up to the Doctor and gives him a concerned look.

"You're gonna regenerate, aren't you?" Rose sheepishly asks.

"Yeah." The Doctor says as he comes to stand before Rose. He looks down at the cream-colored blanket bundle that has their daughter inside. Gently moving some of the blanket out of his way, the Doctor can't help the smile that graces his face as he drinks in her small face.

Baby Donna has a smattering of dark brown hair on her head. Her small button nose, cupid bow lips, and long eye lashes go well with her oval shaped head. Opening her eye lids reveal golden brown orbs which stare up at the Doctor with wonder and some hidden intelligence in them. She gives her father a gurgle and flails her arms and legs. The onesie that Rose had put on the baby girl is one that mimics what the Milky Way looks like through a telescope.

"No, I am not big milk thingy. And it isn't nice to call your mother that as well." The Doctor tells Donna before letting one of her tiny fists to take hold of a finger. Then he bends down to place a kiss to the back of her little fist.

"So where have we landed?" Jenny calls out as she and her little brother enter the room.

Standing straight, the Doctor takes a deep breath and tells his family where he has taken them.

"We're at a friends' house. You, your siblings, and Rose will be staying with Sarah Jane for a time."

"What?!" Jenny and little Jack exclaim in surprise.

"Don't argue. I can't guarantee how this regeneration is going to work or if it does that it won't destroy the Tardis. I absorbed a lot of radiation and that has given the regeneration energy a rather large boost in power. So, to keep you all safe, I need you to stay with a friend." The Doctor explains as he heads towards the Tardis doors.

Rose follows the Doctor to the doors, knowing that her children and Harkness will follow. Then she whispers something to her husband.

"Promise me you won't forget about us or leave us behind."

The Doctor looks back, over his shoulder, at Rose and gives her a sad look. He can't make that promise, because he isn't sure if he will survive the regeneration process this time around. So he flashes her a quick smile and exits the Tardis.

The family follows the Doctor out of the Tardis and they make their way across the street to the house of one Sara Jane Smith. The former companion to the Doctor opens her home to her friends' family and allows them all to enter. Yet the Doctor doesn't enter the house, says his thanks, and heads back to the Tardis. But not before he stops Luke, Sarah Jane's adopted son, from getting hit by a car. Then he makes his way into his ship and flies off.

The Doctor's decides to do a goodbye tour for all of his former companions, minus Sarah Jane and Rose. The first stop he makes is to an abandoned warehouse. That is where he discovers that two of his former companions are about to be fired upon by a Sontaron while unawares. Not wanting to see them die, the Doctor decides to intercede. He clobbers the Sontaron which causes the fierce warrior to fall to the ground. He stands there till Martha and Mickey notice him, and then he leaves to go on to the next one.

The second stop he makes is to a book shop where a certain woman's great granddaughter is doing a book signing. He waits patiently in line, with a book in hand, so that he can ask the woman a question. A question that he had thought about since his adventure in 1913, but eventually placed in the deepest recess of his mind once Rose had returned. But now that he is facing death, the Doctor wants to know what happened to the woman who his human-self had fallen in love with. And once the man ahead of him left, the Doctor was able to get the answer to his question.

Finally, the third stop the Doctor made was at a church, for a certain life event that was taking place. He watches from a distance as Donna Noble and her new husband step out of the church. Their family and friends in attendance throw rice at the happy couple. Then as the pictures are being taken, the Doctor watches as Sylvia takes notice of him. Then she gets Wilfred's attention and the two of them sneak over to where the Doctor is standing. The Doctor talks to them for a quick bit and hands then an envelope as he passes some loving information to them about Donna's father. Then the Doctor steps away and leaves.

There is one more visit that the Doctor has planned. One that he knows will mean a lot to his wife. He lands the Tardis at a certain estate, and head up to a certain flat. He knocks on the door and comes face-to-face with his mother-in-law.

"Hello Jackie." The Doctor says to Jackie Tyler.

"Doctor." Jackie says before trying to look past the Doctor. "So where is Rose? You haven't lost her, have you?"

"No. She is visiting with a friend of ours. I wanted to come to you for a bit."

Jackie gives the Doctor a skeptical look, but steps aside to let the Doctor enter the flat. She watches as he walks past her on his way towards the sitting room. However, she has a funny feeling that something is up, and closes the door without locking it. Slowly she makes her way to her favorite chair and sits down.

"Alright, what is going on, and don't tell me nothing. Something's happened." Jackie says to the Doctor.

Taking a seat on the settee closest to Jackie's chair, the Doctor takes a deep breath before speaking.

"What I am about to tell you, you can't tell Rose or myself when we come to visit you."

"What do you mean?"

"I am from a future point in Rose's time line, and her, or I, can't know what I am about to tell you, Jackie. So before I leave here tonight, I am going to have to place a memory block in your mind till it is safe for you to know."

"Doctor…"

"In the future, Rose and I are married."

"Married?"

"Yes. And we have three kids."

"Three!" Jackie shrieks before having the Doctor shush her back into silence.

"Yes. Jenny, Jack, and Donna." The Doctor pulls out a picture that has the five of them together, which was taken inside of the Tardis without any of the other four noticing. "You can keep that picture, but I made sure that the fibers of the paper had a minor perception filter placed upon it. After I leave here, you will not pay attention to the picture till it is safe for you to know."

Jackie, who's eyes haven't left the picture of her daughter and grandchildren, places a hand in front of her mouth to hold back a sob. She knows what it means for her to be receiving this kind of a gift.

"Jackie?"

Clearing her throat, Jackie looks away from the picture and locks eyes upon the Doctor's face.

"Something did happen then. Have they died? Am I dead? In the future?"

"Not dead, but you are in a place that we can't reach, Jackie. I know that Rose wouldn't have wanted you to be left out on being able to see your grandchildren."

Jackie takes in the Doctor's words and nods her head in agreement. Her Rose, though she can talk to her now, still thinks about her mum. Jackie lets the tears fall from her eyes as she asks the Doctor to tell her everything. And so, he does. For over an hour, Jackie listens as the Doctor tells her about everything that has happened to Rose, their kids, and himself. When he gets to the part of leaving Rose and their kids with Sarah Jane, Jackie can't help but pull the Doctor into a hug.

"I am so sorry Doctor." Jackie says softly to her son-in-law as she releases him from the hug. "Is there nothing you can do?"

The Doctor shakes his head no, and just as Jackie is about to ask another question, the Doctor places his fingertips at her temples.

"I'm so sorry, Jackie." The Doctor says before diving deep into Jackie's mind to keep this encounter hidden till a certain point in time.

Once he is completed with his task, he gets up from the settee and begins to leave the flat. He turns to look back at a frozen-in-place Jackie before leaving the flat for the final time. With the closing of the flat's door, the Doctor waits till he hears Jackie begin puttering about inside before walking away.

Reaching the estates' courtyard, the Doctor sees Ood Sigma standing there, as if he is waiting for the Doctor.

Suddenly, the Doctor lets out a grunt and stumbles over his feet, but doesn't fall. The regeneration energy in his body is now screaming at him to let it go. Yet he fights to keep it in check since he still needs to get back into the Tardis. Then as he keeps walking, the pain of holding back the regeneration energy takes over and causes the Doctor to fall to his hands and knees. But the Doctor refuses to give in just yet.

"We will sing to you, Doctor." Ood Sigma says to the Doctor. "The universe will sing you to your sleep."

Through his telepathy, the Doctor can hear the Oods singing out in his mind. It gives him the strength he needs to get back up on his feet and stumble his way to the Tardis.

"This song is ending, but the story never ends." Ood Sigma says to the Doctor as he watches the Time Lord reach the Tardis.

Entering the Tardis, the Doctor begins to resign himself to his fate. As he walks up the ramp towards the console, he removes his long brown coat and tosses it over one of the rails. As he steps off the ramp, he watches as one of his hands begins to glow a bright gold color. Lowering his glowing hand, the Doctor walks over to the console and starts the flight sequence. Looking up, he watches as the time rotors begins to move, and takes a deep breath before finishing his circuit around the console.

Coming to a stop, the Doctor says his final words.

"Rose, I don't want to go."

Slowly the Doctor lets the regeneration energy take over. Lifting his arms up, the Doctor can see that the glow of regeneration energy is brighter than it ever was before. Taking a deep breath, the Doctor lets himself go and the energy that bursts out is so strong that it damages the inside of the Tardis. The energy takes out the organic looking columns, causing them to fall. Just as the Doctor thinks that the pain of regeneration has gone on longer than ever before, the change hits him.

Screaming out from the pain of the change, a younger face replaces the previous one and the regeneration cycle has ended. The sound of breaking glass and falling pillars causes this new Doctor to spin around to take in his surroundings which is followed by checking himself over.

"Legs! I've still got legs. Good. Arms, hands, fingers. Ohh, lots of fingers. Ears, yes. Eyes, too. Nose. I've had worse. Chin. Blimey. Hair! I'm a girl!" The new Doctor says as he checks each item off from his check list.

"No! No! I'm not a girl. I'm… still not ginger! There's something else. Something important… I'm… I'm… I'm…" The new Doctor knows that something is missing but he can't figure it out just yet. Especially when he is just freshly regenerated.

Then he is tossed against the console, and it finally registers in the Doctor's mind.

"I'm crashing!"

He bounds around the console, pressing buttons before looking at the single screen that shows him what is happening to the Tardis. Seeing what the results are, the Doctor begins to laugh before shouting one word.

"Geronimo!"

So that is the last chapter to this second story of the series. I do hope you all have enjoyed this story, and I look forward to seeing you all leaving reviews.

Ohhhh wait! Keep reading! There is a little tie-in bit just below.

In a flash of light Jack Harkness appears in a metal hallway. Taking in his new surroundings for a moment, Jack begins walking down the hallway. His long military styled coat flaps behind him as he strides towards the door he is looking for. Coming to a stop before the door, he pulls out a small cylinder item from a pocket. He holds it up in front of the locking mechanism which releases the lock.

Pulling open the door, Jack enters the room and keeps walking till he is standing in the center.

"You look worse for wear, Harkness."

"Nothing I can't handle. Why did you send for me?"

"The original time lines are changing, Harkness. They need to know by just how much."

"Well I just came from Earth. Had to see Rosie and the kids get settled in with Sarah Jane before I left."

"So, Rose Tyler is in this universe now."

"She has been since the events aboard the Crucible and the Daleks."

"And the kids? Who is the father?"

Jack lets out a chuckle before answering the question. "The Doctor, who else would Rosie procreate with?"

"Who indeed? So, the Doctor and Rose Tyler have children together. This will have repercussion across the known universe. The time lines are now shifting to accommodate them. Once they return to the Doctor's side, the whole future in this diary will disappear."

"What are you saying?"

"What I am saying Captain Jack Harkness, is that my future with him is no longer valid. After everything we have done together, it will now be undone."

"But things will be better now with Rosie still in the Doctor's reach. Won't they, Professor?"

Rising from a bed, the other person in the room steps into the light so that Jack Harkness can see his old mentor from the Time Agency.

"Spoilers."
