"Okay." I said, trying to push the empty closet's doors open. "This is getting kind of creepy."
The faintest light that filtered through some crevice in the closet door allowed me to see Fang trying to push open the door like me, with no luck. They must have put a chair or something, or maybe they were pushing the doors inward so we couldn't escape. I was slowly getting claustrophobic, but tried not to think about it. My super-acute raptor vision plus the little light allowed me to see, and this closet was bigger than normal. Thank god.
"I think Angel just went whacko." I said, looking over to Fang. "She and Nudge were glancing at each other all through lunch, and then they pushed us in here." I felt my way over to a corner and sat there. At least, the closet was big enough for me to stretch my legs without touching Fang, and I could stand up if I wished to. Plus, my wings didn't have to be pulled in really tight, so they felt okay. But the girls had gone a little overboard with this. I was so lecturing them later.
"How long do they plan to keep us in here?" Fang asked, mostly to himself, sitting opposite me, his feet against mine.
But I answered anyway, "No clue. Is this supposed to be a game or something? 'cause I think I'm missing the fun part."
Fang sighed and rested his head against the closet walls.
We just sat there for some time. I lost track of time. Maybe it was half an hour, or maybe it was just five minutes. It could've perfectly been an hour. I was just thinking about how nice it would be to take a hot bath and everything, then go straight to sleep, when Fang went, in this really weird voice, "Max?"
I turned my head in his direction. "Yeah?" I said, still wanting to take my bath.
And then I made the mistake of looking into his eyes. I stared into them, mentally cursing myself for being in love with my best friend. My brother. And for ever wishing he would love me back, especially when that red head of his kicked in. "What?" I said, softer this time.
But I saw him stare at me, too. Until he remembered himself and shook his head. He then looked away.
"I love you, Max." he said quietly.
I froze. "Yeah, yeah. I know. You love me, Nudge, Gazzy, Ange and Iggy. I love you guys too." I said, a little too rushed.
He looked back at me, a sad look in his eyes. "Yeah. 'course I love them. But… I do love you. As opposed to… just brother-sister feelings. You know."
All of me froze. I swear my heart missed one, two or even three beats. I stopped breathing. I didn't move. Then, I sighed, shaking my head. But he didn't see me, because he had his eyes closed.
"You… don't love me back. It's okay. I understand." He said, suddenly talking like Nudge. "I should have said it before you met that Sam guy, because probably you have already met another boy who—"
I don't know how I did it. I seriously don't. But in a sudden movement which lasted about a split-second, I sprang forward and placed my hands on Fang's shoulders and crashed my lips against his. He stiffened, probably scared by my reaction, but then his arms came around me and he tangled his hands in my hair. His lips started moving against mine, fiercely.
I tore my lips away from his for a moment. "I love you too, Fang." I said.
Then, much to my astonishment, he tilted his head and started kissing me again, more deeply now, and with tongue action involved. But, as much as it this kind of kiss was utterly gross to me when I'd been out with other guys, it seemed perfectly natural with Fang.
When we'd been kissing for about five minutes, Angel and Nudge pulled open the closet doors. Fang and I shielded our eyes from the sudden light, but he didn't let go of me.
"Yeah!" Angel was shrieking, pumping her fist up in the air, a little smug look on her face. "You owe me ten dollars, Nudge."
