Want

All he wanted was a glass of water.

He didn't expect to encounter a member of his team outside of the rooms, especially not this close to midnight.

The small two seater sofa was far confined for the pilot to try to sleep on, but he seemed to have managed to find himself a comfortable position and from the way he was breathing, it sounded like he had managed to sleep that way too.

Hannibal quietly went on his way into the kitchen and quietly poured himself a glass of water, drinking a little there and then topping the glass back up.

As he turned back round to retreat the way he'd come from, he noticed that a very disheveled looking pilot was sitting upright and looking in his direction, eyes blinking rapidly, trying to adjust to the dim moonlight that came through the kitchen window making Hannibal appear bathed in light.

"Sorry, Cap'n. Just getting a drink. Didn't mean to wake you." Hannibal said, keeping to a whisper as he made his way over to the man.

"Oh." Murdock said, sounding tired and still half asleep.

"Er, Murdock, why are you sleeping on the couch?" Hannibal asked, knowing that when he'd originally retired for the night, he'd been with Face.

"Face kicked me outta bed." Murdock said, speaking a little loudly.

"Ah-ha." Hannibal said, understanding a little more. "You guys have a fight?" He said, sounding a little more sympathetic now.

Murdock looked up at Hannibal with eyes that no longer had a trace of tiredness in them. They just looked really sad. "I don't wanna talk about it." Murdock said, looking away, sinking back into the covers and trying to find the comfortable position he'd been in earlier.

Hannibal frowned. He couldn't leave Murdock when he was so upset, but he really did want to go back to bed. He was bone tired. He knew Murdock would suffer tomorrow as well, not only being tired, but upset too.

"Well maybe you can go in there and work it out." Hannibal offered.

Murdock just pulled the covers closer to him. "I'm not going back in there. I know when I'm not wanted."

Hannibal yawned, trying to keep as quiet as possible. He didn't want to upset Murdock further. "I'm sure he's in there right now wishing you were with him."

Murdock sniffed. "I thought you were him coming out. I guess his gone back to sleep. Probably better in there now."

"Aw, Murdock I'm sure that's not true. His probably trying to get the courage up to come out."

"No, he'd have come out by now if he was going to."

He sniffed again.

Hannibal felt out of his depth here, didn't know how to help.

Murdock pulled the covers so they were right under his chin. "It's okay, Hannibal. You can go to bed. I'll be fine."

Hannibal looked down at the man. The fact he so clearly wasn't meant that he couldn't go. No matter if he wanted to or not. "I'm not gonna leave you out here all night, Murdock."

At that moment the other door opened. Face stumbled out, stopping dead when he saw Hannibal in the room with Murdock.

Face went to say something, maybe as way of explanation to Hannibal, but the Colonel held up a hand. "I'm just getting a drink of water." he said.

He passed a little closer to Face. Saw a look of guilt and a pair of eyes that were a little too bright. "Night." Hannibal said, going into his room, and closing the door behind him.

He knew that they'd sort things out.

Tomorrow night, he'd make sure he had a glass of water before going to bed.
