It wasn't anything like Daniel had hoped. It certainly wasn't what he expected. Maybe it was his naiveté showing, but somehow he'd always thought Jack would be a little... smoother. That maybe his tongue and his manner would be as silver gilded as his hair.

Instead, it was brash and impetuous and at completely the wrong time. Which, once the linguist thought about it more closely later, was probably more in character anyways.

They were off-world, in the middle of a firefight. The Goa'uld had them pinned down behind an alter that Daniel had been trying to translate and his video notes and tape recorder were still up there. Only chance had kept them from getting blown to smithereens yet.

Daniel was determined to get them back and Jack was equally determined to keep him down and out of the line of fire.

"Dammit Daniel, those stupid friggin notes aren't worth your life. You'll probably be able to remember them squiggly line for squiggly line when we get back to base anyways."

Across the way, Sam and Teal'c finally managed to get to the D.H.D. and dial home. The forming wormhole distracted Jack for just long enough to give Daniel a chance to surge up and make a grab for his stuff. He almost had it when enemy fire burst out all around him and a sudden yank had him falling down on top of his team leader.

A quick flurry of hands swept over him in an apparent attempt to search for injuries but other than a few scratches and burns on his hands and face, he was all right. At least, he was fine until Jack jerked him forward and planted a rough kiss right on his lips. Before he could recover, the world was shaking violently. It took a moment to realize that it was just his body as one very irate colonel made his feelings known. "Do have any idea how long I've been waiting to do that? Do you? And you're not gonna kick the bucket on me for good before I get a chance to do a helluva lot more than that, do you understand me? Now get your ass in gear and hit the goddamned gate, Jackson!"

Stunned, Daniel did as he was told, only peripherally aware that Jack made sure to grab the camera and recorder pack before joining him.

Only Jack would admit to less than brotherly feelings in the middle of combat in such a crude manner. Maybe smooth wasn't always the best way to go.

When Daniel hit the surface of the wormhole, only a second ahead of Jack, he was smiling.
