Severus Snape scowled down at the students from his place at the staff table. His glare was focused, as usual, on the Gryffindor table. She was staring at him again; Ginny Weasley was constantly staring at him. She would furrow her brow and scrunch up her nose, staring at him as if he were a specimen under a muggle microscope, like she was trying to look into his soul.
Snape crossed his arms irritably. It didn't matter how hard he glared at her, how much he scowled at her, how many times he barked orders at her or how many detentions he gave her. She still continued to study him, a small ghost of a smile on her face.
He knew why she was doing this; it had started after he saved her life during a battle with Death Eaters. One had attempted to throw the killing curse at her when they attacked Diagon Alley during the summer; he had tackled her out of the way before stunning him. After that every time he would arrive at headquarters for an order meeting she would be there, sitting on the stairs watching him with a bewildered expression, as if she couldn't understand why he would save her. Now that school had resumed it was grating on his nerves as he couldn't escape it as easily as he could during the summer.
Every time he would sweep into his room, projecting his evil bastard persona, she would just sit there and study him while her fellow classmates cowered in their chairs.
Dumbledore leaned over, his blue eyes twinkling, breaking Snape from his thoughts. "I do believe Miss Weasley has finally come to a decision."
Snape looked over. She was smiling at him, not the ghost of a smile she had previously worn, but a triumphant smile as if she had finally found what she was looking for, like she had finally figured him out, discovered what made him tick, why he fought.
Damn, she would be insufferable now.
Severus scowled harder. He dismissed the thought that it might be nice to have someone understand him, even if it was a Weasley. The corners of his mouth threatened to twitch.
Damn!
