One last author's noteā€¦

This story formed itself from strange beginnings. I wanted to write a Merry/Pippin, and I decided to write it from an outside POV. Since Boromir seemed to be their keeper while the Fellowship was together, I chose him.

It was while writing the story and thinking of Boromir as a character that I sort of fell in love with him. Needless to say, the story that came about was not the one I first had in mind, but I'm very, very proud of it.

And then I found this quote in The Two Towers, which fit it so well and gave the story its title. It's on that note, with Gandalf's words, that I say one last thanks to everyone out there who reads this.

"It was not in vain that the young hobbits came with us, if only for Boromir's sake."
