Man I really went for a bit of a stretch with this one.

The idea has been in my head for a while now and I really wanted to take it somewhere

More Izumi with a different personality from my other ones of course!

Disclaimer: I don't own BNHA

Enjoy, more notes at the end explaining a bunch of stuff!

Chapter 1: Old Memories

*Gran Torino POV*

Torino Sorahiko, once going by the hero name Gran Torino, well he still went by the name but he was long since retired, sized up the girl who was at his door. She looked to be around 16 to 18, she was quite tall at 177cm in height, blackish green hair that was done up in a cross between a ponytail and a lazy bun, round green eyes, a powder of freckles and a mole beneath the right side of her lip. She wore a pair of far too red sneakers, black capri pants, a white t-shirt that read "shirt", and a yellow sweatshirt with the sleeves rolled up. She was also noticeably well muscled, and Sorahiko found the girl to look almost familiar. He briefly debated on using his usual tricks but the question that left the girl's mouth stopped him.

"You're Gran Torino, right?" She asked hopefully.

"I've been retired for a long time, but who's asking?" He shot back. He was a bit surprised that someone so young knew about him, it wasn't impossible of course, but he wasn't even recognized by some of today's veteran pros.

The green haired girl perked up at his confirmation, "Oh good, I'm so glad I finally managed to track you down! Ah, I'm Midoriya Izumi, Gran Torino, Sir." Midoriya introduced herself with a bow. At least she kind of had manners, the old man thought.

"Well then kid, you said you had to track me down, a long retired hero, so what is it you wanted?" The old man grumbled a little, what could she possibly need from him?

"W-well, I just recently passed the entrance exam for U.A's hero course and I need to submit a costume design." The girl informed him.

Costume design? What could he possibly have to do with that? Sorahiko seriously doubted that she wanted to use his costume design, so what else was there? "So why did that force you to seek me out then kid?" The man asked, but he was unprepared for the answer.

"Would it be alright if I used Shimura Nana's costume design?" The girl cried, and Sorahiko's body froze in place.

-break-

Sorahiko took a seat across from his guest. After the initial shock of her request, he invited her to talk inside so neither of them were just standing around and whether that was to be polite or because he needed to sit down he wasn't sure. Truthfully there was a part of him that was glad that his friend was being remembered by the younger generation, but he certainly was going to hear the story behind this first.

"So kid, exactly how did this request come up and why did you feel the need to ask my permission?" The old man inquired, not exactly understanding her motivations.

"Well, truthfully...Shimura Nana is my great grandaunt." The girl replied, dropping a bomb on him out of nowhere.

Sorahiko stared at her in shock, he knew Nana had a son but he didn't remember much about the rest of her family and the girl also said great grandaunt at that. In fact after having heard it from Midoriya he was slowly starting to see the greenette's resemblance to his dear friend. Taking note of his expression, the girl decided to elaborate.

"My great grandmother was Nana's sister and she eventually had one daughter, my grandmother. Grandma did the same and had my mom who had me. Um lots of only daughters really." The girl chuckled awkwardly, "Um great grandma and grandma both passed, oh but my mom's fine! Uh those weren't super relevant huh?"

While he was still of course shocked, there was something that was still confusing Sorahiko, "Kid, if you're related to Nana then why did you need my permission before you used her costume?"

Midoriya took on a thoughtful look, "Well, in the footage I could find on her you were always there. I tried to find the rest of the Shimura family but apparently they were involved in an unknown accident and are deceased." She whispered quietly. "S-so since you were the closest person to her I wanted to ask your permission, even if I'm family."

The old man was a bit torn on the matter. He didn't feel right denying her request but the girl also strongly resembled her great grandaunt and his last memories of his sworn friend were painful ones. Sorahiko sighed at himself, he wasn't going to let his personal feelings get in the way of this girl's life but he did have a few more questions.

"Why did you choose Nana's costume kid?" He wondered, watching Midoriya's face shift in thought once more.

"Well I guess a little part of it is that she's family. I mean she was the latest hero in my family line and she's been a pretty big inspiration for me." She answered cheerfully, "I used to be painfully shy as a child and my classmates would tease me about it and about my quirk, but after I found out about aunt Nana I trained myself and my quirk really hard so then I could become a hero."

Sorahiko raised an eyebrow at that, well the girl did grow up to be strong and confident, at least from what he could tell. Another thing had caught his interest, "What is your quirk kid?" the old man prodded.

"Oh! I'll show you!" Midoriya exclaimed, excitedly standing up and move slightly away from the table. "Here goes!" She called before jumping up into the air.

Sorahiko was once again put into a state of shock because in front of him Midoriya was suspended in mid air. Float. He'd never forget the sight of Nana's quirk.

-break-

The girl had taken her seat again and on Sorahiko's urging she explained her quirk. It was only improbable, not impossible, that Midoriya would have Float. Nana's quirk was inherited from one of her parents so the quirk was able to connect to Midoriya even if it was from generations ago.

"I have a dual quirk that allows me to float in mid air and pull myself towards objects. My mom's quirk allows her to pull small objects towards her." The girl elaborated, noticing his perked eyebrow. "I call my quirk 'Drift' because between the combination of float and pulling myself towards objects I can maneuver and kinda fly around by changing what I'm pulling myself to or how many things I pull towards with varying strength." Midoriya explained, before standing up to demonstrate her quirk again. Hopping into the air, she suspended herself and aimed a hand at the old man's microwave.

Slowly she started moving towards it, the microwave showing no signs of movement itself, before she released her quirk when she was on front of the appliance. "Objects that I pull myself toward aren't affected by my quirk no matter how much strength I use so I can even target objects that aren't stuck in place. I don't have to use my hands to direct myself either but it does make it easier." Midoriya clarified, showing her hands with a smile. "Oh I also have to see what I'm pulling myself towards and the item can't be too fine or too large. So things like most liquids, air, and sand are a no go and I couldn't just grab on to an entire building or the street." She added.

Sorahiko listened intently to the girl's overview of her abilities. He already decided that he had no issue with her using Nana's costume design but he briefly thought of Toshinori. He had only been in high school when they lost Nana and he knew that she still weighed heavily on the blonde's mind. Toshinori had loved her like a mother and the pain from their time being cut short wasn't something that ever left. However this was Nana's family. Midoriya had more right than anyone to uphold Nana's legacy and she still went out of her way to receive Sorahiko's permission. Plus, the girl had no way of knowing how All Might was involved in all of this.

Speaking of Toshinori, the word going about was that All Might was going to be a teacher at U.A. Midoriya had passed the hero course entrance exam and Sorahiko hadn't gotten a call from his student about this girl. Which meant the blonde lug either hadn't connected the dots or he missed her entirely. Hmm, the old man could decide if he'd tell Toshinori about the girl or let him figure it out himself later. Perhaps a heads up without going into detail? Really, he wouldn't do this if his student would start taking care of himself more as well as checking in with his old teacher.

"Kid," Sorahiko addressed Midoriya who snapped to attention, "I don't see any reason for me to deny your request." The girl beamed and he held up a hand, "but make sure you also become your own kind of hero."

Midoriya kept the bright smile on her face, "Of course! I won't let you or aunt Nana down! Thank you so much Gran Torino!"

Sorahiko's gaze softened a little at the girl's wide grin and enthusiastic attitude, "I don't doubt it kid." Hmm, perhaps one finally question, "One last thing kid...who are you?" He questioned using his best dopey tone and expression.

The girl stared at him, a bit wide eyed in surprise, then she whipped out her phone and quickly tapped away before she brought it to her ear. Turning away and waiting for a moment she side eyed the old man, "Ah yes hello? My grandpa suddenly stopped recognizing me. He was fine just a second ago, oh what should I do?" The girl worried and Sorahiko sputtered indignantly.

"You don't really have manners do you kid?" He griped and Midoriya slipped her phone back into her pocket. He knew she was messing with him.

"You started it sir." She snickered, her hand held up to her mouth and a smug expression on her face.

She really was like Nana.

-break-

Midoriya had thanked him again and also promised to visit, unlike a certain blonde student of his, before she left. Sorahiko sat at his table and enjoyed a plate of taiyaki while he pondered his next move. Toshinori could be quite emotional, especially when it came to his master, so the old man knew he would try and get to know Midoriya. Doing so would make it difficult to keep the green haired girl out of the secrets of All Might as well as One For All and Sorahiko knew just from talking to Midoriya that she was a sharp one.

If he told Toshinori, then the man would impulsively try and meet her without thinking, he did have issues with that shortsightedness of his, and if he didn't tell the man he would be putting his student through a bit of heartache. The old man was leaning more towards not informing the blonde for a couple of reasons.

First, Toshinori, while surprised, could meet the girl naturally and formulate his own opinions of her and he'd be able to see that some of Nana's family lived on and were carrying her legacy into the future. Next, the blonde would go to him about the development instead of accidentally bulldozing into Midoriya's life and then Sorahiko would be able to explain what he knew. Finally, the old hero knew that Toshinori was on the lookout for a successor and while Sorahiko knew that Midoriya could be a potential choice he was reluctant to drag Nana's great grandniece into that mess. While it was true that All For One was ended by Toshinori, he would have tried to convince Midoriya otherwise about the costume if that wasn't the case, One For All still came with a heavy responsibility.

The old man sighed, he'd hold off from saying anything but either way Midoriya would have her work cut out for her.

Alright! So Izumi has her own version of Nana's 'Float' and next chapter I'll go even more in depth on 'Drift'

The idea of Izuku/Izumi having Float or being related to Nana isn't something new and a number of stories have done it before. I just wanted to do one as well with Izumi having a modified version of it. Pretty sure everyone who has done the idea did so because of when All Might compares Inko to Nana and I'm no different.

I made Izumi pretty tall, 177cm or 5'10, and she's pretty muscular, I mean have you seen Nana? So yeah, built Izumi.

In this story I went ahead and made it so that Nana's Float was from her parents and that she had a sister. I don't believe either was confirmed to not be true so I went ahead and played with that idea. So even if Nana's sister didn't have float then one generation up would which guaranteed that Izumi would have a chance, no matter how slim, at getting it. Mix that with Izumi's ability to pull herself to objects and you get a maneuverable version of Float. It's currently unconfirmed in canon if Nana could maneuver herself with Float but she did have One For All for that if she couldn't.

It was under the assumption that All For One was dead until the USJ business so that's why Gran Torino allowed her to use the costume. If he knew that AFO was still kicking then he would have denied the request.

Now, about not telling All Might. He can be shortsighted about things. Take the USJ for example, while he couldn't have known about the attack, he did use up all his time which was meant for teaching and it was likely that on scene heroes could have done the job just fine. We've also seen how emotional he gets when it comes to his Master Nana. Even if Gran Torino told him about Izumi and All Might did his best to not go out of his way to meet her he'd still be stewing for three months in anticipation for her to be in his class.

Anyways, I want to write a pairing for Izumi but I'm a little at a loss for who. I'm kinda leaning towards Yanagi Reiko from class 1-B but I'm always up to indulge my love for Izumi x Itsuka.

Izumi x Reiko would be a new pairing for me to do though it might be a bit difficult as we once again have a relatively basic outline of her personality.

Izumi x Itsuka I can kinda do a reverse Nana and Gran Torino vibe by giving Itsuka OFA (once again my bias shows. I mean there's an official sketch of her with it and I love giving it to her when I have a quirked Izumi)

Also since they're both from 1-B I'm thinking maybe I'll make this another 1-B Izumi story. Also Itsuka and Reiko are friends in canon so regardless of who is part of the pairing the other will still have a nice supporting role in the story and be a good friend.
