I actually wrote most of this before the Theater chapter, so this was just quickly finished. As you will see Jaune's Semblance is still growing with him. But don't worry before the end of the tutorial, it will settle on how all of this is done.

Last save: Jaune Arc awakens in the hospital to numerous revelations! A new Semblance, a promise of training, and a headache, the blond boy has a bright future ahead!

After being released from the hospital the next day, Jaune and his family arrived home. It was a three-story building that overlooked their farm. Out in the back was a chicken coop, a barn that contained a cow and some sheep, and a greenhouse for some of their specialty crops such as fruit trees. The family mostly lived off their own land, while selling produce, and whatever else they can make during that time. Any other Lien came from Ruggiero doing hunts.

"Brothers, it's so good to be home," Saphron said.

"You've only been at the hospital for less than a day, dear," Ada laughed as she led the family into the home. "If anything, it's your brother that should get to say that."

"I don't know," Jaune joked. "I got a free pudding cup after every meal there, I don't get that here." That caused Iris and Olive to laugh. Immediately as he set foot into the home, something popped up before him.

Welcome home! When you are ready, sit in the living room to start the next part of the tutorial.

"We can do the tutorial later," Jaune said to his family when they looked at him staring at empty air. "First, I'd like to take a bath and maybe get lunch in me."

"Good idea," Maron giggled. She jokingly took a sniff and pulled her head away quickly. "Because you smell."

"Eww!" the twins chorused, laughing as Jaune rolled his eyes.

Jaune made his way downstairs, just as the landline Scroll rang. The twelve-year-old didn't care though. Usually, he never answered. So he went down to the basement where his bedroom was. The basement was split in half, with Jaune's room on the right side of the building. Across the hall was the laundry room as well as some storage.

So the blond boy opened his door and looked at his room. "Looks like no one messed with my room," he sighed in relief. The bedroom consisted of a single twin bed pushed up against the corner. A bookshelf full of fantasy novels, comic books, and a few books not meant for kids.

Okay, he blames Maron for that one! It's not his fault she left her book called Ninjas of Love out!

Next to that bookshelf, was a desk with a computer on it and a nice chair. On the wall across from it was a TV with a game console and a beanbag chair to sit on. To the left of that was a cabinet with his various hoodies hanging, with his clothes folded neatly to the side.

He grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom that his dad had installed for him. Jaune stripped off his clothes and had noticed something in the mirror. "Oof," the blond grunted as he looked at his back. "That will not get me points. Unless girls like the rugged looks."

What he was talking about were the four claw marks that were just now scars on his back. However, they were slowly fading. "Is this because of my Aura?"

No, this is because of the Semblance and one of your skills. Please open the Skills menu for more.

"Later," Jaune said, closing the screen. He jumped into his shower and took a quick wash before dressing in some shorts and a shirt before going back upstairs to get some grub. He got to the ground floor and paused. "Wait, I wasn't the one who cooked…"

Slowly, the young man made his way to the dining room and saw that there were several boxes of pizza. Everyone was already around the dining table eating. "Oh thank goodness," Jaune said as he took his spot on the left side of the table next to Saphron who had Maron on the other side. "Can I get a slice of pineapple and pepperoni?"

"You are no son of mine," Ada said as she handed Jaune the whole box.

"You're the only one who even likes pineapple in our family," Teal said with a frown as her brother began eating a slice.

"I'm sure one of you will join me one day," the youngest male in the room replied. "You will know the joy of sweet pineapple on savory tomato sauce."

"Gross/Disgusting," Aqua and Marina said at the same time. A cough got everyone's attention.

"Jaune," Ruggiero said.

"Yeah, dad?" Jaune asked, sipping some grape soda.

"I know I promised to train you to be a Hunter, but…" Jaune groaned upon hearing the word but. "The city has asked me to help go on a Grimm Extermination mission that would take two weeks."

Jaune wanted to complain, he really did, but he knew it was important. "It's okay dad. I mean I waited a few years what's two more weeks?"

Ruggiero chuckled. "Well that's good of you to be mature for your age, but I wasn't done talking. While I am going on the mission, your mother has offered to teach you some stuff while I'm gone."

"Wait what!?" Jaune asked in surprise. He turned to his smiling mother.

"Yes. I can teach you a few things about being a hunter until your father comes back," Ada answered.

"This way you can start on your Hunter training even when I'm not here," Ruggiero replied.

"That and I can get back in shape too!" Ada nodded.

"Okay," Jaune replied. "After lunch why don't we look at my skills list so you guys can help me out before you leave dad?"

"Deal."

After cleaning up lunch together, Jaune had once more shared his screen with his family to help him out on some stuff. They were around the living room when he did it, some were sitting on the couch, others in chairs, and a few on the carpet. He was in the final group as the siblings and mother stared at the screen.

Aura: 173/200

Tutorial part 2: Skill and Abilities

"Skills and abilities? What's the difference?" Jaune asked, with Iris sitting on his lap. The younger sibling nodded.

"Yeah! What is the difference?" Iris repeated.

"If you didn't interrupt, the thing would have explained by now," Aqua teased.

Blue number 1 is correct.

This caused said Blue number 1 to pout, eliciting giggles from the other sisters.

Abilities are the natural inherent talent you have. While Skills are talents you have learned over time.

Ada who was sitting on the couch between Saphron and Maron hummed. "I see. So what makes it different for Jaune, Semblance?"

Due to the existence of this Semblance, Jaune can learn both abilities and skills at a faster pace. It will even make skills in response to his constant actions. To check them out, ask for the Abilities list. Skills will be in the tab of the Ability.

"Again, I'm so jealous," Olive complained as she saw what was being told to her brother. This prompted Jaune to roll his eyes and looked ahead.

"Abilities," Jaune stated.

A new screen appeared with what abilities Jaune had.

Abilities-Rank:

Arithmetic- Novice

Awareness- Novice

Breathing- Expert

Cleaning- Novice

Cognition- Beginner

Composition- Novice

Cooking- Novice

Dancing- Beginner

Drink Making- Novice

Farming- Intermediate

Fishing- Novice

Investigation- Novice

Physical Endurance- Novice

Running- Intermediate

Speech- Intermediate

Swimming- Novice

Technology Aptitude- Novice

Writing- Master

"Those words mean nothing to me," Jaune frowned. He could see plus signs next to each word, knowing at least those can expand when he wants them to.

The current ranks are as follows: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Expert, Master

"Wait...how am I just an expert at breathing!?" Jaune demanded, confused.

You are breathing right now.

The moment Jaune read that, he noticed his breath. Which had him start breathing erratically. "Oh god…"

"Brother! Please calm down," Iris told him.

You are experiencing stress! Please calm down!

"Of course my own Semblance makes me nervous," Jaune said as he got his breathing in check. He then decided to expand his Breathing ability to see what was up.

Breathing- Expert

Normal Breathing: Master

Deep Breathing: Master

Meditative Breathing: Intermediate

"Huh? How do I have that?" Jaune asked. "When did I learn meditative breathing?"

"We practice that every morning with mom, remember?" Saphron reminded him. Her younger brother looked confused. "You know when we sit together and just take a few minutes to just breath and center ourselves?"

"I thought that was just something boring we do every morning!" Jaune complained. "I didn't know that was a skill."

Upon mastering a Skill, the one/two attribute(s) attached to it gets a plus.

"Is that the only way my son can gain more Attributes?" Ruggiero asked the Semblance.

He can also grind out said attribute by practice, but that takes longer.

"Grind?" Maron asked. She was never really a video gamer, so most of these words were going over her head. Even more than Jaune.

"Grinding is the process of repetitively doing something to either get better or get loot," Olive replied. "It's like doing daily exercise to get stronger."

"I understand," Ada nodded. "Just like practicing weapon techniques over and over to perfect it. You're going to be doing that a lot by the way."

"I know," Jaune sighed. "But it will be worth it. And I guess I'll be working my butt off to master skills too."

To master Skills, just grind those or find permanent Skill boosting items around the world.

"What now?" Olive gasped. "He can use items to boost his Skills!?"

And Attributes yes.

"NO FAIR!" the green-clad girl groaned. "I'm super jealous now."

"So far nothing seems too bad with your Semblance," Ruggiero said. "I can't see any downsides."

"Right. Nothing seems to be negative in it," Ada said with a thoughtful look. "Is there any catch to this?"

The Problem of Choice, by having the option to see all his Abilities and Skills, Jaune will have to make choices on how he improves himself. Sometimes improving in everything is not the answer. You must pick and choose how you wish to grow.

"So he has to specialize instead of being an all arounder?" Teal asked.

Yes. It will take a lifetime for Jaune to master everything so he must choose how he wishes to grow.

Jaune pouted. "And here I thought I can master everything," he said. She felt Maron ruffle his hair.

"Don't worry. Just do what you can," his eldest sister told him.

"Does Jaune get any skill points?" Olive asked, wondering if he gets that part of the video games.

Jaune may get attribute points, meanwhile, he gets skill boosts instead to help max out the skill faster.

"That helps since it seems like these skills are more a qualitative thing instead of quantitative one," Teal hummed in thought.

"Why is Writing Mastered?" Jaune asked.

You have very pretty writing and everyone can read it. Your composition however...leaves much to be desired.

"Why are you so sassy?" Jaune complained.

Because I'm helping you and sometimes that is what you need to be motivated.

"...I hate that you're right." That caused the family to giggle.

For the next few hours, Jaune would go through all of the abilities and see the skills within them. Some of his family would come in and out, or look as Jaune looked at everything.

And holy moly, there were so many skills he already knew. All of the skills had its rank labeled next to its name and a bar to show how much experience, with most being close to zero. It seemed that once he got the bar to 100 it would be considered mastered. Also for some reason, a lot of descriptions were rather weird too. Take for instance:

Speech: Lying- Beginner- When you decide to hide things from your momma and start stuttering. (Wait I have a tell!?)

Or

Farming: Gathering- Master- Good job! You can collect produce and items without dropping them. You can even handle bringing it to the right place well enough! (He's had years of experience not messing up- Aqua).

Or

Cognition: Perception- Intermediate- You can see things in your peripheral vision! But can you see what's happening right in front of you? (What? Wait...Iris, give me back those cookies!)

And on and on it went as Jaune looked at it. He wanted to blame his self-esteem for most of those mocking words honestly. But heck, Jaune was sure it will improve once he improved!

It was also during this time that Jaune noticed his Aura would tick up by one every minute. That and his Screen Share would not cancel until he stops it himself or he falls asleep.

And at the end of reading more than a hundred skills, a window popped up.

By constantly looking at things and getting info, a Skill was created! Investigation- Inspect

Inspect- Beginner- Costs: 1 Aura Point to activate, will draw from Mana first upon obtaining it. Upon activation, you get info on the object. Usually, it's rarity, grade, and condition. It only works on inanimate objects.

"That's...new…" Jaune mumbled. He looked around before grabbing the TV remote. "Inspect."

Aura: 199/200

His eyes glowed as words floated over the remote.

TV Remote

Rarity: Common

Grade: E

Condition: Worn

"Okay, rarity makes sense, meaning that some items are harder to find than others. And condition also makes sense to show how used it is. But what is Grade though?"

Grade is a different variation on rarity. You can constantly find similar mass-produced items but sometimes one version of that item is better. That is Grade. That is between E, D, C, B, A, with the extremely rare S rank.

As for Rarity, it goes common, uncommon, rare, epic, legendary.

And Conditions go from Worn, Okay, Good, Pristine.

Jaune frowned. "Why do I need to know this?" Really why would he need to know all of this?

To increase skills you need to grind them! However, to make it go faster you can use better quality items. The better the Grade and Condition the better your skill proficiency becomes...if you successfully do whatever you are doing.

"Wait what?" Jaune asked. Now that was just confusing.

You still get some experience for attempting the skill but a successful attempt gives a better boost.

"Will I get to see those boosts as numbers or just an increase in the bar?" Now that was a good question he thought so himself. After all, he didn't see any numbers on those skills.

Would you rather deal with a lot of numbers or a pretty bar?

The young Arc male took a moment to think about it before groaning. "Would I be able to switch it out in the future if I just keep it as a bar for now?"

Yes. Just go to the settings menu whenever you'd like.

"Then keep it at default settings," Jaune groaned. "Wait. How do I know when I level up? Is there a bar for that too? Or is it a number?"

His stat screen appeared before him and a golden bar appeared right under his level.

He saw that, and then his Aura Meter and his Life Bar. "Why are those numbered?"

Because those are finite and already established.

"That doesn't make sense!" Jaune groaned, clutching his head in frustration. Why was everything so weird?! "Why are some things numbers while others bars?"

To help your mind adjust. Again once you grow older you can change it.

Jaune sighed but understood what his Semblance was trying to do. It was helping him cope as much as possible with the info given to him. His stomach growled and he saw it was close to dinner time. "I may as well make dinner...maybe see what I can do with skills now that they have appeared as a video game."

The blond stood up and went to the kitchen and looked in their fridge.

"Can I use inspect on a lot of things?" Jaune wondered as he stared at the contents of the fridge.

For thinking of something your Semblance hasn't yet, your soft Attributes have increased by 1.

Intelligence: 15

Wisdom: 16

Charisma: 16

A new skill has been created! Investigation- Mass Inspect.

Mass Inspect- Beginner Costs: 1 Aura Point per item, will draw from Mana first upon obtaining it. Mentally choose numerous items to inspect at the same time! Your Semblance will show status floating said items and will adjust to your eyes as to not overload your mind.

"Thank you, I wouldn't want a migraine if I just turned on that ability," Jaune said to the screen.

You're welcome.

"At least my Semblance is nice enough at times." The young man grinned and thought of what he would like to make. Scratching his chin, he opened the other door of their fridge, aka the freezer and looked inside that as well.

"Well, dad is going to go soon so I should make something he likes. What do you think, Semblance?" He began to rummage through all the food in the fridge.

You want my opinion? I'm just part of you, you know I would agree with what you want.

"That's true but come on, you seem to know things I don't. Means you're at least smarter than me." He grinned at the screen talking to him. "So yes or no? Make dad's favorite dishes?" The young Arc waited a few moments before an answer came.

Yes. As well as some of your mother's favorites for thanks.

"Good point," Jaune replied. "Mass Inspect." At first, he chose to look at the various chicken meats as well as some of the pieces of beef.

You've used 10 Aura points.

Aura: 190/200

Jaune looked through the pieces he wanted and chose by their Grade and Condition. Namely those closer to pristine and above C. Thankfully since they grew most of their own food that was easy. Nothing was above Common though, which makes his choices easier.

Going over to the pantry he began to grab items too. "Mass Inspect," Jaune repeated as he looked at some of the gathered materials.

You've used 8 Aura points.

Aura: 182/200

He made a mental note to throw away some of the older items that were closer to spoiled. "Geez, I'm going to have to clean up some of this later," he mumbled to himself. A tiny screen appeared before him, as the bar for the skill Dispose went up just a smidge. That one was more than halfway through and labeled intermediate.

He gathered all his ingredients and began preparing the food. However, as he grasped the kitchen knife, he used Inspect on it.

Kitchen Knife:

Rarity: Common

Grade: A

Condition: Okay (Dulled)

"You said that I can get a better chance for higher experience by using better items right?" Jaune asked.

Yes.

"So, if I sharpen this knife I can get better results right?"

Yes.

Jaune grabbed the whetstone from the kitchen and made sure to put on some cut resistant gloves to not hurt himself. Putting the knife to the whetstone, Jaune began to sharpen it. He got two swipes in and Jaune was surprised upon seeing a new screen appeared.

A new Ability has been found! Weapon Maintenance has been created! Level Beginner!

A new Skill has been created! Weapon Maintenance- Blade Sharpening

Blade Sharpening- Beginner- Use a whetstone to make sharp things sharper!

"Huh, neat," Jaune blinked. "I do have a question though. I know these are skills but can I use my Aura or something to make it work better?"

You are welcome to try.

That caused the boy to frown. This was an interesting thing to say. So maybe he can?

Once again placing the knife on the whetstone, Jaune focused his Aura into the blade. As he slid it across the whetstone. A small chime got him.

Failure!

Jaune saw the Skill pop up and the tiniest growth on it.

"Okay, that was wrong," Jaune uttered. "Maybe I don't do it to the blade?" The boy tried it one more time, this time he didn't put Aura into the blade. Instead, he focused it on his arms. There was a small flash that momentarily blinded him. However, the trill of the Semblance activating got his attention.

Success!

Aura: 184/200

Condition: Okay (Sharpened)

A new Ability has been found! Aura Ability!

A new Skill has been made! Aura Ability- Enhanced Skill!

Enhanced Training: Use Aura to boost the use of a skill! Aura amounts vary per skill!

The screen that had his Blade Sharpening ability grew not an insignificant amount. "Huh, neat. So a success gives a lot more than a failure." That caused Jaune to grin. "Okay! Let's see how fast I can grow my skills by the end of tonight?"

The next few hours had Jaune done food prep, cooking, and even cleaned the various pots and pans he's used in making the food. Every cut felt sharper after every vegetable or meat sliced, every time spice was applied his knowledge about it grew more, and even just timing on the cooking itself increased.

By the time he was done with the chicken parmesan and spaghetti, his cooking, which was at one-fourth originally, was now at a good one-third of the bar. Even making lemonade seemed quicker than normal.

Aura: 50/200

"Well, that doesn't mean anything if the taste is bad or worse...bland," Jaune said to himself and his Semblance.

You know it will.

"I should try it," Jaune said. Grabbing a fork, he took some chicken and pasta before putting it into his mouth.

"Holy moly," he gasped. "It's better than what I usually make."

Don't speak with your mouth full. Also…

You have completed a recipe!

Chicken Parmesan and Spaghetti (Grade B)

2 to Str, Con, and Wis for the next 8 hours

A home-cooked meal effect (ignore temperature change outside of extremes)

Lemonade (Grade B)

2 to Int and Cha for the next 4 hours

Quenched (Decrease fatigue accumulation for the duration)

For making two recipes successfully for the first time since gaining your Semblance, you've gained +2 to Dex and Int.

Dex: 16

Int: 17

"So the more new stuff I try, I get more attributes?" Jaune said. "Neat!" Sadly, for the soup, he had just used some instant stuff so he didn't get a boost in anything outside of boiling water. And then the bread he just heated up. And since it was premade, he didn't get the attribute boost.

"Guys dinner is ready!" he shouted. The Arc Family slowly made their way to the kitchen and saw the spread.

"Oh? What's the occasion?" Maron asked as she sat down at her seat.

"Well, I was trying out some skills, mostly my cooking ones," Jaune said as he took his spot. "And I found out that I can use my Aura to make my skills stronger. Helps finish stuff faster, although it's really tiring if done too many times."

"Interesting," Ruggiero said while putting some lemonade in his glass. "And why this meal?"

"You and mom both love this dish, so I decided to make it before you leave and as thanks for mom teaching me in your place," Jaune said embarrassed. Bradamante kissed her son on the forehead.

"That's sweet of you," she said to her son.

"Such a mommy's boy," Aqua teased despite putting food on her plate.

"Oh quiet you," Saphron giggled. "You're getting food before anyone else." Aqua blushed as Marina snickered at her sister.

"Oh wow, big bro!" Iris said biting into her food. "This is better than usual!"

"It is!" Ruggiero said happily. "Did you do something different?"

"Kinda. The more I use skills, even without Aura, my Semblance increases it's...what's the word..starts with an e? Effi-"

"Efficiency," Teal supplied the word for him.

"Thanks, sis, the more I use skills, efficiency gets better. So even if it was only an hour, my skills got a boost.." Jaune bit into his food. "Also people get buffs from eating what I cook."

"Soooo jealous," Olive groaned. She ate her food and grumbled at how good it was.

"How about this, I awaken your Aura and you can train with Jaune and me?" Ada suggested.

"Really!?" both Jaune and Olive said at the same time. Jaune would love to train with his sister! And Olive wanted to go on an adventure so this could be her first step!

Dinner finished without much fanfare and Jaune even opted to clean the dishes. However, he was made to promise not to do it all the time or else his sisters will be lazy. After playing a few games with Olive and Iris, he retired for the night, eager to get started on his combat training the next day.

As he closed his eyes, he saw flashes before him. Different versions of him fighting against Grimm and people alike. All of them in various types of armor and wielding different weapons. "What is going on?" he asked himself, very surprised.

However, when all the actions had finished, the different versions of him stood in place. All posing differently.

One stood at the ready, with shield and sword in hand.

Another was less clothed with a ferocious grin on his face and a large sword.

Standing next to that was wearing something he saw in those kung fu movies and had no weapons.

The next one after that was dressed in tight fighting clothes and had a dagger, face hidden beneath his hood.

There was one in light leather armor with a bow and arrow.

After that was one in a lot of armor, a sword in one hand, and the other glowing.

The next one was in even heavier armor, on one knee with his hand on his chest, a mace was on the ground.

After that, there were Jaunes dressed in robes. There seemed to be three of this one though, one with a book on a chain, one with his hands full of energy, and one with a figure standing in his shadow.

The last two were different. One of them had various plants on him and the last one looked like a musician.

Please choose your class!

"What?" Jaune said, his jaw dropping.

Please choose your class! This will determine what combat skills you will get!

"But I don't know what this even means!" the young man groaned as he looked at the various Jaune's standing there. "Where am I even?"

In your soul? We're having you choose how you want to improve yourself going on from here.

The blond boy groaned. "Can I wait until I speak to Olive about this first?"

Not this time. You must decide your own future Jaune. Whether it is through creation or destruction, all I can do is give you the knowledge to make a choice.

"Dang it," Jaune cursed as he paced around. "Okay, this is a life-changing moment Jaune. What do you want to do?" The blond looked at the twelve possible versions of himself. Twelve possible futures that he can walk on. "If I ask, will you give me info on each class?"

Of course.

"Then lay it on me!"

So Jaune sat listening in his own soul listening to descriptions of the various classes. From Fighter, Barbarian, and Monk, to the magical Wizard, Sorcerer, and Warlock. Yes, they were all different, even those in between like Druid, Bard, and the Paladin and Ranger.

But as Jaune listened he was attracted to one specifically.

"Okay!" Jaune said standing up. "I know what I'm going to choose."

Oh. What shall we be doing?

"Well, mom and dad don't want to admit it, but they along with my uncles all worked for the same company. And they had a name for the company." Jaune walked over and stood before one. He grinned up and knew this was what his destiny was going to be.

He stood before the one with the sword and the glowing hand.

"I'm going to be a Paladin."

Whether sworn before a god's altar and the witness of a priest, in a sacred glade before nature spirits and fey beings, or in a moment of desperation and grief with the dead as the only witness, a paladin's oath is a powerful bond.

Do you wish to go on the path of a Paladin?

"An Arc never goes back on their word," Jaune said the family motto. "Yes."

Then go forth and never break your word Jaune Arc.
