He-hey everybody! Hope you're all doing well and staying safe! I decided to write that longer White Knight fic I mentioned in my last two-shot. I've got a few chapters to start, so I'm hoping you all wouldn't mind giving me some feedback to what you think if you get that far, it'll really help me out and I would greatly appreciate it! This story is going to be an AU where Jaune and Weiss end up as partners. There will be differences to the teams as well and there will be moments that may be OOC. This is going to be my first long story in a long time, so I hope you all enjoy!
Summary: When Weiss met Jaune, she wanted to have nothing to do with him after he began making advances towards her. Now, a series of events and a truce forced them into becoming partners. And that meant spending more time with the boy.

Chapter 1: New Beginnings
Jaune Arc couldn't believe it. He was at Beacon Academy. One of the most prestigious combat schools in Remnant. He was finally on his way to realizing his dream of becoming a hero who protected the innocent from the creatures of Grimm. He was on his way to fulfilling his legacy as the next heir to the Arc name. The only problems were, he had no combat experience and all he had for a weapon was a basic sword and shield. He hated thinking of his family's heirlooms like that, but compared to the other weapons he had seen, he wasn't sure how he was supposed to compete. Perhaps he really had jumped the gun when he decided to enroll. Especially because he didn't get in by legitimate means. His transcripts were fake. But he knew he'd never have been able to enter on his own merit.
Even his parents had tried to convince him not to go. Nonetheless, they let him go under the notion that he would bottom out soon after and come back home. He caught a glimpse of a statue that stood in the courtyard. It was of a man and a woman standing on top of what looked to be a cliff and with a Grimm below them. He did not recognize one of the people depicted, who was a woman wielding an axe. However, the man who stood triumphantly on the edge, holding his sword high above him, he knew exactly who that was. It was his great great grandfather who was depicted wielding the same sword and shield he did now. He was a real hero and Jaune wanted to be just like him. Seeing this renewed his resolve to fulfill his dream. Now wasn't the time for second thoughts. With a face clap, he began walking in stride towards the school. "You can do this, Jaune!" Is what he thought to himself. He was almost out of the court yard when he heard an explosion from behind him.
A mix of emotions were running through Weiss at this moment. Shock, disbelief, anger and the list went on. Somehow, this girl had exploded and caused most of the dust she was carrying to go to waste. All because of a sneeze. It was unbelievable unless you had witnessed it for yourself.
"You absolute dolt! Do you have any idea what you've just done?!"
"Uhh…exploded?"
"You've wasted so much valuable dust! Do you even know how much it costs to manufacture this?!"
"I'm really sorry…"
"Sorry isn't going to cut it, kid! Speaking of, aren't you a bit young to be attending this school?"
"Well I-"
"Ok, let's calm down here ladies."
Both the girls looked over to see a tall, blonde boy in a hoody, jeans and body armor approach to try and defuse the situation. The girl in red seemed to recognize the boy.
"Hey, you're that guy that that vomited all over my sister's shoes on the airship!"
Jaune tensed. "I-I have no idea what you're talking about. You must have the wrong guy." He said looking away.
"Nope, you're the only guy I've seen with blonde hair, jeans and a hoodie around here."
Weiss was getting impatient. "Excuse me, but just who are you exactly?"
Jaune turned to face Weiss and smiled. "Jaune Arc. Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it.
Weiss rolled her eyes and scoffed in annoyance.
"Anyway, I heard the explosion and came to see if everyone was alright. So, are you, miss…?"
"Schnee. Weiss Schnee." She greeted.
"Weiss, got it!" He turned to the girl in red. "And you?"
Weiss looked a bit confused at him brushing aside the fact that she mentioned her last name.
"Ruby Rose. Nice to officially meet you, Jaune!"
"The pleasure is mine. Anyway, I'm glad to see you both aren't hurt."
"Your concern is appreciated, Jaune, but Ruby over here has cost me a valuable supply of dust for my weapon."
"I'm willing to pick up the cost for replacements. How much?" Jaune asked.
Weiss looked at him skeptically. "You would pay for the replacement of dust even though you just met her?"
"If that's the only way to defuse this situation so we can all be friends instead of enemies, then sure."
"Jaune, you really don't have to do that! I'll pay for it myself! It was my fault after all."
Weiss sighed in frustration. "You two don't need to pay for anything. I'll replace it myself."
"No Weiss, please, I want to make it up to you!" Ruby pleaded.
"As long as you've learned your lesson, we'll call it even."
"Are you sure…?"
"Yes! Now quit asking before I change my mind!"
"Well, glad that little problem's been solved! What say we all head in together? It's better to be with friends than wander around alone." Jaune suggested.
"Do what you want." Was all Weiss said as she started walking towards the school.
Both Ruby and Jaune stared after her. They turned to each other and shrugged as they began to follow behind. Weiss wasn't completely over the situation, but the intrusion of Jaune helped to calm her a bit. She had to tune out the annoying chatter of the two as they walked though.
"Well, this isn't how I expected my first day to go" Jaune thought to himself. After deescalating the situation between Weiss and Ruby, they had moved to the assembly hall for orientation. Jaune looked around and was amazed to see how many people had shown up. He knew that Beacon was famous, but he didn't realize how many people were willing to put their lives on the line to be hunters or huntresses. Ruby had found her sister, the one who's boots he threw up on, so he decided to stay close, but not too close for her to give him an earful. Although, if she requested, he'd buy her a new pair of boots to make up for it. Weiss was talking with them as well. He was just close enough to hear the next words to come out of her mouth.
"Yeah! And we can paint our nails and try on clothes and talk about cute boys like tall, blonde and scraggly over there."
wait…was she pointing at him? Did…did she think he was cute? I mean, he did have the Arc charm, so he guessed it wasn't too shocking. And Weiss was really beautiful. Could he really have a shot with her? Well, that's one thing he could attempt to find out later. Orientation was starting and the headmaster was about to speak.
The headmaster cleared his throat before he began. "I'll...keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge. to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
At that, the headmaster walked off stage and the assistant head master started to provide directions for their next course of action. Jaune meanwhile, was lost in thought.
"Wow…what a pleasant guy. Still, he wasn't wrong I guess. I mean, that's why we all came to this school. Most of us do lack purpose and direction."
He overheard some say that they just wanted to become hunters because it was cool, or it was to pick up chicks. Jaune hated those kinds of people. They all think this is some sort of game and it only proved the headmaster's point further. He was going to become a hero no matter what. He'd prove to his parents, but most importantly, himself, that he has what it takes. But for now, it was a good time to socialize and get to know more people. And in the spirit of things, he felt it necessary to formally apologize to Ruby's sister. They were still together and talking with Weiss. Jaune thought back to a few moments ago when Weiss called him "tall, blonde and scraggly." If she did find him attractive, it was worth attempting to see if she'd be interested in a date. He built up the courage he needed to both apologize to his fellow blonde and to ask Weiss out. As his father always said, confidence is key.
"Hello ladies." He greeted.
"Oh, hey Jaune!" Ruby greeted back.
Weiss simply nodded at him.
"You know Vomit Boy, Ruby?" Her sister asked.
"V-Vomit Boy?!"
"Oh yeah, that's the name we gave you after we got off the airship. I totally forgot!" Ruby said.
"Oh come on! Motion sickness is a legitimate condition!" Jaune protested. "Anyway, that's why I'm here. I wanted to apologize for that. I'll buy you a new pair of boots if it'll make up for it."
"Nah, don't worry about it! I'm not the kind of girl who gets upset about that kind of stuff."
Jaune was genuinely shocked. "Y-you sure? I mean, I feel really bad about the whole thing."
"Yeah, you're good. Jaune was it?…Nah, I prefer Vomit Boy, so I'm gonna keep calling you that."
"Any chance I can get you to change your mind?"
"If you really wanna make it up to me, then think of this as your punishment." Yang said with a wide grin.
Jaune bowed his head and sighed in defeat. Guess he'll just have to endure it. Still it was nice that she wasn't mad at him and that they could probably be friends. That's one of his objectives down. Only one to go.
"So Wei-" He looked over to where she was standing to see that she was now gone. "Huh? Where'd she go?"
"Oh Weiss? She walked off after you and Yang started talking." Ruby Spoke up.
"Yang? Oh, your sister?"
"Oh right, I didn't properly introduce myself. I'm Yang Xio Long. Ruby's big sister."
"Pleasure to meet you." He greeted back. He turned to Ruby. "Did you see where Weiss went? I wanted to ask her something."
"I think she said something about going to find a place to set up for the night. No idea where though."
Jaune looked a bit disappointed. "Oh, alright, guess I can talk to her another time."
"What did you wanna ask her? Maybe I can relay the message if I see her first."
"Oh uh…actually, it's something that's best done in private."
"Ahhh I see. Someone's got the hots for Weiss." Yang said, catching on to Jaune's thought process.
"Wha- how did you- I mean-"
"Trust me, Vomit Boy, a girl just knows these things."
"I'm a girl and I didn't know that." Ruby said.
"You're still a bit too young to know these kinds of things, sis."
Ruby pouted and stuck out her tongue at her sister. Yang returned the favor, but in a more playful way. Jaune, meanwhile, was looking around to see if he could find Weiss. I mean, how hard is it to spot a girl dressed in all white with white hair? She had to be pretty unique when it comes to looks compared to everyone else around. After scanning the room twice, he found her towards the back corner of the assembly hall.
"Ah, found her."
"Go get her, champ!" Yang said, giving him a slap on the back that almost sent him face first into the ground.
"Good luck, Jaune!" Ruby said, giving him a fist pump.
"Thanks, I guess." He said, back still stinging from the slap.
Once again, he resolved himself to complete his task. And that was to ask Weiss on a date. He strode towards where she was setting up for the night.
Weiss was tired. She had a long flight from her home in Atlas, she and another girl exploded and she was now low on dust, things just weren't going her way. Now she'll have to make a trip into the city of Vale to replenish her supply. Gods, why did this have to happen to her? Well, hopefully a good night's sleep will put her in a better mood for initiation the next day. She was going to be put on a new team starting tomorrow. So she had to make sure to put her best foot forward. Of course, she'd obviously be chosen as leader of said team, so she needed her future teammates to respect her too. But, then again, being a Schnee meant that shouldn't be a problem.
"Hey there, Weiss." A familiar voice greeted.
Weiss turned around to see Jaune Arc standing there. "Oh, hello Jaune. Can I help you with something?" She asked.
"Well, I'm just looking around for a spot to set up for the tonight and saw an empty one next to yours. Mind if I be your neighbor for the night?"
Weiss didn't particularly mind. Jaune was about one of three people that she knew so far at Beacon. And he was by far the most tolerable. "I don't see why not."
Jaune smiled at her, "great, thanks!"
Weiss gave him a simple nod and began setting up her space again. Her servants had already brought in her belongings and had set up for her, but Weiss was particular about her space, so she was busy rearranging things to fit her style better.
"That's quite the setup you have there. Think you brought enough of the essentials?" The blonde boy asked.
She turned to face him once more, giving him a raised eyebrow. "All of this is vitally necessary to my routine."
"I see, in that case, mind if I borrow your nightstand and mirror? I need to make sure my luscious hair remains in perfect condition." Jaune said while running a hand through his hair. "I'm a natural blonde, by the way."
Weiss rolled her eyes, "Look, Jaune, I'm very tired and I would appreciate it if we could keep the conversation to a minimum. I had a long flight and I need to get up early in the morning to go to Vale and restock on the dust that Ruby lost before initiation."
"Oh, you're going into the city? I can come with you! I have a relatively good understanding of the layout. Oh, but I guess you probably would too since you're from around Vale and all." He finished chuckling nervously.
"Hmmm…having someone who's familiar with the city would be advantageous. It may also cut down on wasted time looking for stores and means I'll get back here faster." She thought to herself. "Actually, I'm from Atlas, so I'm not very familiar with the city at all. As for your proposal, if I say yes, will you leave me alone for the rest of the night?"
"Atlas huh? Why come to Beacon then? It's a pretty long way from home."
"My reasons are my own. Now then, do we have an agreement or not? I'm growing impatient."
"Oh! Sorry! Yes, I'll cease talking with you immediately!"
"Good. We'll be getting up bright and early. 5 AM sharp. Understood?"
"5 AM! SERIO-"
Weiss raised an eyebrow at him.
"I mean, 5 AM sounds great!" He said in a strained voice. "It's a date then."
Weiss squinted her eyes at him. "It most certainly is not!" She snapped.
"Hey come on now, I mean you're a girl, I'm a guy, we're going into the city tomorrow, just the two of us. Sounds like a date to me."
Weiss marched up to him and poked him in the chest with her finger. "Listen here, Jaune, I am in no mood for any games. This is not a date and the only reason I'm even considering bringing you along is because I'll be able to save time by having someone with me who knows the layout of the city. I can find plenty of people around here who could fill that roll. So, if I hear one more word out of you tonight, consider yourself replaced. Got it?"
All Jaune had to give her for confirmation was him zipping an imaginary zipper on his lips. Weiss removed her finger and backed away from the boy. "Good. Now then, I'll speak with you again at 5 AM. Goodnight, Jaune." Was all she said as she went back to arranging her space and preparing for the evening.
Jaune began to set up his area in silence. Weiss was glad he understood his position. Honestly why was it that the three people she had to know so far at Beacon were an exploding dolt, her sister and this flirtatious simpleton? She retracted her thought of him being the most tolerable so far. Gods forbid either of them, or worse, both, end up on her team. She couldn't imagine the torture she'd go through if that turned out to be the case. As Weiss finished her preparations and changed into her nightgown (in private of course). She turned in for the night. She could hear the sounds of aspiring huntsman and huntresses chatting about, too excited to sleep. She could have sworn she heard Ruby and her sister talking with someone. She could only catch bits and pieces, but it sounded like she was trying to befriend another girl. She felt sorry for whatever unfortunate soul she was speaking too. Still, she was too tired to care as sleep soon overtook her.
