Men in Black and DC crossover

(A/N: I own nothing and I do have permission from Velmiadragon to do my own version of her story We are Men in Black because I was bawling at her killing Curacao even if I do know why she did it and understand it (ya'll say hi to my spirit sis because she deserves all the fucking love and praise that she can get). So I'm doing my own version and I'm doing things sort of the same but also lots different. So buckle up buttercups cause this shit is done my way now.)
It was strange in a way, Sherry mused idly, seeing the usually bustling and busy labs so empty and lifeless. But it made sense considering that it was after hours at Headquarters, and given that most of the other scientists were giving her space after what had happened to her sister…it made sense but it was still strange to see the labs so empty when she was used to their being many more people in here. There were only three people in her lab at the moment, counting herself.
She turned the pill in her hand over and over again as she stared at it and one of the other figures in the room, a tall broad shouldered man with thigh length silvery-blond hair and two piercing green eyes, placed his left hand upon her shoulder.
"Do you want to wait a little while longer Sherry?" Gin, her beloved boyfriend of four years now, asked her his voice softer than most everyone believed it could be as he stared down at her. Well stared down at the top of her head at least because she didn't look up or turn to look at him just yet.
"No. I've delayed this and been delayed from this for long enough. I need to leave tonight Gin." Sherry said firmly as she stared down at the pill for a moment or two longer. It was such a simple little thing. It looked like any standard medicine pill would, it was a tiny capsule with half of it red and half of it white. The small black words APTX 4869 were on the side of it, so tiny you could hardly see them if you weren't looking for them.
"Do you really have to go right now Sherry?" The shorter but much broader shouldered man standing at the door almost like a guard or bouncer asked looking at the eighteen-year-old scientist from behind his ever-present shades. He wore his heart on his sleeve though and he looked upset at her having to leave.
It was only his presence in the room that kept Gin from pinning his younger girlfriend to the sterilized wall of the lab and probably ravaging her to keep her from leaving his side just for the night at least. Shame he had done that to her last night when she was about to take the APTX and therefore it wouldn't work again two nights in a row, especially not while they had an audience.
"I do. I was supposed to leave yesterday but that didn't work out. This mission is too important to the Organization and we all know that." Sherry said glancing up at Gin pointedly and making him give an unrepentant shrug of his shoulders. He didn't want her to leave. He wanted her to stay here with him, with her friends, with the rest of the Crows where she belonged.
"It has no time limit. You will be gone on an indefinite mission until 'that person' decides to bring you back for some reason or until the threat to that Arquillian Scientist is gone." Gin reminded her and she only smirked mischievously up at him.
"I know. I love you, Gin, but as long as I'm the only one who holds your heart then I promise I won't get mad if you sleep with other women, or men if you decide that's what you want to do, while I'm gone. Especially if it comes down to me having to grow up all over again." Sherry said smirking at Gin and making Vodka snicker a bit behind one hand but blush at her words while Gin scowled at her.
"Not funny. I'm already ten years older than you." Gin said although he didn't look too upset with her words, he knew it was just her way of interacting with other people or coping with the fact that she would be gone for an indefinite amount of time from the Organization. Gone from him for an unknown amount of time.
"Twenty years won't make much of a difference then, especially not with how good of a shape you stay in." Sherry said smirking still but it was a bit softer now as she stared up at him.
"It will be when I'm almost forty while you're not even twenty yet." Gin muttered but she still heard it and she gave him a small soft smile. The age difference between them now, although it was only ten years, bugged the hell out of him much more than it did her. Although to be fair if they were ever discovered then she wasn't the one who would be going to jail.
"Your age won't change my feelings for you. But I've put this off long enough." Sherry said sighing as she stared back down at the pill in her hand now. It looked so innocent, as if it were something as benign as a vitamin, but she knew it was so far from the truth. After all she was the one who had made the pill. She knew exactly what it was going to do and she very much doubted that it would be painless physically, she already knew that it would be painful emotionally.
"You know as well as I do that there's only one reason why that spy killed and impersonated my sister. Something or someone is trying to get into the Organization through me and they don't care if I die in the process or not. I have to go into hiding either way, and I'm grateful that the Boss is letting me having to hide be useful by having me protect the Aquillian scientist and watch after Kudo since if we don't then there's no doubt that he'll discover what our Organization, the Men in Black of Japan, really does and he's not ready for that yet. Not with that bounty still on his head from the mob boss. I will not be able to do most anything else and using the same pill that we used on Kudo wasn't my idea but it is the best way to keep me safe. So please don't make this any harder on me, because like it or not I have to do this." Sherry said looking back up at him about halfway through her speech and setting the pill down on her sterile white lab table as she stood up to be closer to his eye level, even if she was almost a foot and a half shorter than him still.
"Besides I won't be dead, which will be what happens if I stay, I'll just be shrunken. I'll still be able to call you whenever I can so long as it doesn't blow my cover…" Here Sherry stared up at him for a moment with narrowed suspicious blue eyes.
"Unless you're saying that the only part about me you'll miss is the sex." Sherry said and while she could pass it off as a joke Gin knew that as confident as she was in most areas, she was still insecure in some areas. The bedroom for instance and whether or not she could please him like he did her during their 'fun times'.
Gin stared at her silently for a long minute before slowly reaching out both hands and grabbing her shoulders, pulling her forward into his chest and holding her close. She was surprised for all of a minute before she cuddled into his broad muscular chest and her own hands came up and gripped his black leather coat underneath his fine, silky, silver hair. He was sturdy and strong, like a rock, but he was so very warm as well. He was like a giant heating pad to her. She buried her face into his chest and breathed deeply, inhaling his scent of smoke, plasma, leather and the faint scent of jasmine from his body wash.
Vodka remained respectfully quiet by the door and had turned to face the wall to give them some privacy for their moment.
"This isn't like you, being so openly affectionate. It's almost as if you're never going to see me again." Sherry said softly but she didn't release him, nor did he release his hold on her. Instead he buried his face in her short red-brown hair and inhaled her scent, there was a strange unnamable smell from her time working with the chemicals, a soft trace of bleach from all the sterilized instruments, and a sweet blueberry smell from her shampoo. A mixture of scents that never failed to calm him.
"I won't be able to hold you like this for who knows how long." Gin whispered softly in her hair. She couldn't fault him there, she was trying to hide her own worries about that as well. Instead she just moved out from under his head and then leaned up a bit to give him a quick chaste kiss.
"I promise you it won't be the last time. Just…promise me that you'll stay alive so that we get the chance to be like this again." Sherry said softly as she stared him in the eyes. It was a foolish promise she knew. Tomorrow…hell the next two hours were never a guarantee in their line of work, especially not for one so well known and feared as he was.
"If it will bring you back to me…bring you home quicker…then I promise." Gin said solemnly as he stared her in the eyes and she felt her lips flicker upwards into a smile. Despite how his bangs obscured most of his face from view she could feel the warmth in his gaze as he stared down at her. He knew it was a promise he likely wouldn't be able to keep but he was going to make that promise anyways and do his best to keep it because he loved her.
"You're a real sweetheart sometimes. You know that?" Sherry teased as she kissed his cheek.
"You missed." His forest green eyes sparkled a bit as he gave her a small smirk of his own and she smirked back.
"Missed huh?" Sherry asked and then before he could answer she leaned forward and gave him a deep slow kiss on the lips. He hummed happily into her mouth as they kissed for a long moment, his hands moving to her waist, but she wasn't going to let him seduce her into staying another night.
Vodka was still in the room after all.
With that thought in mind she broke the kiss and then gave him another quick peck on the cheek before slipping from his warm embrace.
"It's time." She said softly as she picked the small pill back up from off of the table and rolled it over in her hand one last time. Then she popped it into her mouth and dry swallowed it without hesitation. The pill slid down her throat and for a few long seconds it didn't look like anything was happening or was going to happen.
Then she felt like she had gotten hit by a bus and blasted out of a canon without any protective gear at the same time. Her body was wracked with spasms and violent pulsing as every centimeter of her, every single atom, felt like it was being melted by lava then reformed and then melted again over and over and over again.
She couldn't see or hear anything else going on through the pain. She might have screamed, she might not have. She wasn't sure at all. She probably collapsed to the floor but she couldn't tell. All that she could feel, all that she knew was nerve destroying, mind melting, bone crushing pain throughout her entire body. She couldn't tell up from down, left from right. She couldn't tell you how much time passed if any passed at all. She didn't even know her name or her age or anything else at that moment. All she knew was the pain that never seemed to end!
Until finally it did. Almost as suddenly as it started it stopped. There was silence and she took several very long minutes regaining her mind and her bearings as she laid on the floor, miraculously still conscious although there was darkness swimming in the edges of her vision. She felt a large warm, familiar, hand on her shoulder and she was turned over so that she was laying on her back now instead of her stomach.
Staring down at her were the two men that had been in her office when she took the pill. Both Gin and Vodka looked at her in slack jawed horror and looked much bigger than she remembered them being a few minutes ago. Or was it hours? She wasn't able to tell.
"You're alive." Gin breathed out in relief as he stared down at her. Sherry only stared at him worried, something that spiked, when he released her shoulder to cup her face and he frantically ran his gaze over her face multiple times. She knew she had felt like she was dying but had she looked like she was as well? Judging by the looks on his and Vodka's faces she'd wager she had looked pretty awful.
"I'm alright." Sherry said although her throat felt like sandpaper and instead it came out as little more than a croak. Looks like she had screamed herself hoarse. She wasn't surprised at all by that.
"You beautiful, brave, reckless woman…" Gin breathed out in relief as the horror seemed to drain from his and Vodka's faces. Maybe her voice didn't sound that bad then? Although it was toss up as to whether they actually heard her or just guessed what she had said.
"You scared the hell out of us Sherry." Vodka said sighing in relief now that he knew she was okay, well as okay as she could be after going through what was obviously an enormous amount of pain.
The two of them helped her sit up straight, and she was too tired to protest their assistance even if her voice wasn't nearly gone, and Vodka supported her back with one large gentle hand until she was able to support herself without shaking too badly. Looking down at her body, Sherry noticed that she had indeed shrunken. Her white lab coat that had fit just right earlier had slipped down her shoulders and was only on her body still because her now much smaller arms were trapped in the far too big sleeves. The less said about her red dress that had fallen to just below her knees earlier the better. She was nearly swimming in the red fabric!
"It looks like it works the way it should. That means it's time to go." Sherry managed to rasp out as she carefully tried to stand up on her own.
"Already?" Sherry glanced up at Gin and Vodka, staring at how startled Gin looked. For a man ten years older than her who had been with the Organization for just as long and seen things she probably couldn't imagine, he was not taking this well at all. His once carefully crafted poker face seemed to be utterly smashed to bits at the moment.
"I have to. I shrunk, so now I have to go undercover just like my orders said." Sherry repeated again as she looked at the two men who looked concerned and shaken up.
"Sherry look at you! You can hardly stand up without shaking! You're not in any shape to go anywhere for tonight at least!" Gin said protesting while Vodka nodded his head in agreement.
"I'm all for following orders Sherry but you look like you can barely stand, much less walk. Even if not for the whole night you can at least wait an hour to try and get your strength back right?" Vodka asked worriedly. She was hoping that the wouldn't have noticed that but it wouldn't have worked anyways with the way her legs buckled underneath her weight a few scant seconds later.
The two large men quickly caught her before she ended up kissing the floor again. But this wasn't working. She needed to get a move on. She had orders to follow and a mission to complete…but she wasn't in any position to do that without their help. The one time she needed Gin to be completely focused on completing a mission was, of course, the one time he was deliberately being unhelpful. It hadn't even been thirty minutes yet and she was already regretting the loss of her adult body. She butted heads with Gin a lot in the past, it was to be expected when their personalities and strong opinions met and clashed, but at least as an eighteen year old she had been able to brush past him and do what she had to do. Even the few times he did try to hold her back in such instances, usually she would only have to lock eyes with him and he would cave in so that he wouldn't hurt her. Right now however, she was both physically incapable of escaping him and her strong will meant nothing to him when she was staring at him with a smaller, more vulnerable body.
"I have to go and it has to be tonight. It's my duty to the Organization and my loyalty to the protection of Earth that compels me to go. It has to be done and I will play my part just like you have to play yours. You know I'm right…" Sherry said trying to appeal to his better nature and loyalty to the Organization and his job.
The glare he gave her full of hatred made her fear that she made a grave mistake for a moment and she felt Vodka tense next to her.
"That's playing dirty, Sherry." Gin growled at her, and she felt relief course through her.
"So you'll let me go then?" She asked careful to keep her relief out of her voice just so that he didn't decide to go back to being difficult again.
"I don't have much of a choice. I refuse to let you walk all the way to the scientist's house however, not like this and not in this rain." Gin said and Sherry blinked for a second.
"Rain? It wasn't supposed to rain until much later in the evening." Sherry said frowning for a minute but then dismissing it as not being important. A little bit of rain wasn't going to stop her after all.
"Well the forecast was wrong then." Vodka said shrugging slightly.
"I could hear it starting to pound on the roof right when you took the drug." Gin said with a wry smirk.
"Well if you insist and it makes you feel better then you can give me a ride to the scientist's house. You'll have to park at the end of the street and let me walk down the block by myself though." Sherry said as she gently extracted herself from their helpful supportive hold and dug through her lab pocket for her cellphone.
"He already knows I'll be coming soon so I just have to send him the details and let him know it's tonight. We have to stick to the plan to proceed." Sherry said making the two men frown at that while she began composing the message on her phone.
"What exactly is this plan of yours?" Gin asked suspiciously as he peered at her while she finished the message and sent it to Hiroshi Agase before she turned back to him. He and Vodka both were fully standing up again and towered over her small body now.
"On the off chance that someone, alien or human, might be watching…I leave your car, which will be parked in a poorly-lit area at the end of the street, and walk just past the scientists house to the one next door. I'll be dressed just like I am right now, newly-shrunk, soaking wet, desperate for help and so tired that I collapse right in front of Kudo's house. Just after, no more than ten minutes or so, Dr. Agase see's me lying on the ground on his way home and will take me in out of the goodness of his heart. That will cover my escape from a 'criminal syndicate called the Black Organization' and make it seem authentic." Sherry explained the outline of the plan to the two of them and they both looked not too happy about this.
"He knows this plan right? You won't be waiting in the rain for hours for someone who isn't going to come?" Vodka asked worriedly and making Sherry nod.
"Yeah he knows the plan. I just sent it to him. To keep it from being too perfect though he's going to wait at least ten minutes after I collapse to 'find me'." Sherry said and Gin was very much not happy at all now. Instead he looked livid.
"Ten minutes?! You'll catch a cold being out there that long!" She just shrugged at his concern for her health.
"It's better to catch a cold than it is to be dead. There's no cure for death." Sherry said calmly. That seemed to shut him up for at least a moment.
"I still don't like any of this. At all." Gin said crossing his arms and sounding a bit childish. Sherry crossed her own arms and glared back at him. Who was the older adult here again?
"Whether you like it or not isn't important. I'm acting on the Boss's orders and that's the plan I'll follow. So you can either help me or stay out of my way. What's it going to be?" Sherry asked coldly and Vodka winced as he stepped back a bit just in case the two of them started butting heads again. He did not want to be in the middle of that at all thank you very much.
Honestly the ultimatum was a bit impressive considering she had no clue how'd she enforce it if Gin wanted to be difficult with her about it. She wasn't even up to his knee after all. She was banking heavily on his loyalty to the Organization and 'that persons' orders but if his personal loyalty to her won out his professional loyalty and attachments, then she was screwed and not in the fun way. It would end up with her having to play really dirty to accomplish her mission, and she only prayed she wouldn't have to go that far.
"Only ten minutes." Gin said his lips barely moving and the look on his face made it seem as if he'd swallowed glass.
"If the scientist hasn't found you prostrate on the sidewalk in front of the Kudo place before those ten minutes are up then I'm going to grab you, bring you back to my car, and you will wait there with me. Mission or no mission." He finally relented that much, but it took a lot of effort for her not to groan in annoyance. He was being a paranoid idiot.
She'd been through a lot worse in the name of the Organization than just risking a slight cold by standing in the rain. Taking the APTX just now came to mind immediately…but…he was compromising for her sake and at least it showed that he cared about her. Gin was excellent at hiding his emotions whenever he wanted to and that usually made it difficult to tell exactly how deep his feelings for her ran, but at times like this doing things like compromising…it showed a bit on how much he truly cared about her.
So instead of scoffing or calling him out on his paranoia, she smiled warmly as she reached for his coat and tugged on it. He obliged her silent request by uncrossing and dropping his hands to his sides where she then took his left hand in her two smaller ones and brought it to her cheek.
"Thank you, Gin. I do love you." Sherry said smiling up at him, watching as some of the tenseness in his posture deflate at her words. He knelt on the ground again, his soft eyes and his smile back.
"Feeling sentimental, are you?" He teased her slightly but didn't mean much by it.
"Not like you can talk." She said in response but there wasn't any bite or heat to her words, just warm teasing. She leaned forward and kissed his cheek, a spur of the moment thing that was quite bittersweet to her. It was the same way to him judging by his expression.
Don't get her wrong she still wanted to show her affection to him, but…it somehow felt wrong to kiss him in this form now. Something she was sure was even worse for him. He didn't look any different to her except for being bigger but…she had regressed in age and size. She really hoped that she didn't have to remain like this for too long, for both of their sakes.
"Well…there's no point in delaying it any more is there?" Sherry asked briskly, trying to get her mind back on track. The sooner she started her mission then, hopefully, the sooner she finished it and found an antidote.
"No I suppose not." Gin said standing up, and while it was just a small thing…the fact that neither of them released the others hands when he stood or when they began walking to the door and Vodka made her heart melt a little. She gave a few small tugs to see if he would let go but he didn't budge, in fact he just held her hand tighter. She blushed a bit at how he was being so uncharacteristically clingy, worried about her health, and so stubborn about not letting her start her mission…but she'd be a liar if she said that she didn't like seeing his composure break because he was desperate to keep her safely at his side.
She didn't need to hear him say an 'I love you' in so many words to know how he felt, and she knew he was going to miss her just as much as she would him when they parted ways for good in less than two hours.
