A/N: I don't own Doki-Doki Literature Club. So this is just what the summary says, random stories about my favorite character in DDLC- Monika! Also, the MC is called Anon in this fanfic.

Everyone knows what happens when you get pushed off the edge of sanity.

You become insane of course.

But what happens when you're pushed off the edge of insanity?

Does such a person become sane- become normal again?

Or do they end up somewhere else, someplace unheard of? What even lies beyond insanity?

Do they somehow go even further and land up somewhere where no one would have ever thought of before?

It was the most beautiful day. It was the nicest weather that Monika had seen in a long time. And it wasn't just the sun that was shining- but not too brightly, far off in the light blue sky- it was that today was a very special day for Monika. She had been looking forward to it for a very long time.

"I'm sorry I'm late," he said as he approached the table. He was panting- he had clearly ran a long way to get here.

"It's alright," Monika said. He looked like he was afraid that she was going to go ballistic at him. "There's nothing that could get me mad today, especially not at you, Anon!"

He smiled weakly. "R-really?"

He didn't seem to believe it.

"Yes, it's okay," Monika said. "This is our first date after all, and I don't want to start on a sour note. And anyway, I was just admiring the scenery."

"Oh, right," Anon said. "Yeah, it is pretty nice out." He looked very flustered and worried. Then again, Monika had to admit that she was pretty nervous too- it was only that she looked far more calm.

He looked like he was desperately looking for something to say.

As a matter of fact, Monika thought to herself, he looked exactly like he had two days back when Monika had told him how she felt about him and asked him out. He looked like a guy who really couldn't believe what was happening.

"You look very nice," he finally managed to get out. He then paused as he noticed Monika's reaction. "Uh, I'm sorry- did I say something wrong?"

"N-no," Monika said, trying to put on a pleasant expression for Anon, but even someone as dense as he could tell that Monika wasn't happy.

But why wasn't she happy?

Monika didn't know. Shouldn't she be glad that Anon had complimented her like that? So then why did his words feel like tiny needles pricking her heart?

It wasn't that she believed that he was just saying it to make her happy. No, she had prepared for a long time for this and she knew herself that she looked extra gorgeous today. She was wearing a pearly-white dress that matched with her ribbon and even showed a little skin…. but not too much of course, she didn't want to overdo things on the first date. So, if she could be pardoned for her lack of modesty, well, she did think that she looked extremely nice.

Monika frowned and it was with a great deal of effort that she convinced herself to stop thinking about it.

"Come on, take a seat." She patted the empty seat on the bench right next to her.

Monika had thought that a park was a nice play for a date, if only for the fact that they could go almost literally anywhere besides this place if they wanted to. The mall was just five minutes away, and there was a café a little further to the south that she knew about that served great coffee.

Anon sat down and he looked as uncomfortable as ever- as if he still couldn't believe that Monika of all people had really asked her out and was still convinced that this was somehow a dream. Monika thought that maybe if she pinched his cheeks he'd realized that it was all real… or maybe she should give him a peck on the cheek? It seemed far more romantic, but then again maybe it would be a little too soon?

For a while all they did was look at each other. Monika tried to be happy- but somewhere deep down she felt like she was forcing herself to do so.

Not that Monika was a stranger to forcing herself to feel confident and happy- she quite very well went through half of her life like that with her hiding her true emotions, but she knew deep down that something was not right about all of this.

But again, she tried her very hardest not to think about that. She had to think of anything other than that.

Monika's attention was then diverted to a cute little puppy that wandered over to them when Anon suddenly seemed to get the courage to say something out of nowhere.

"Monika… I've wanted to say this for a very long time… but I love you…"

Monika froze.

She clenched her fists.

The puppy who had bounded towards her was now paused just as if someone had paused a video, with a paw still in mid-air.

The clouds stopped moving across the sky.

"NO!" Monika screamed in rage as she turned towards Anon, who, like everything else around her, was frozen in place by her will.

She reached into her bag and took out one of the sandwiches she had made for them to eat and flung it at his stupid face. "No one in their right minds says that so suddenly on a first date you idiot! What were you thinking?"

But then she sobbed as she realized that there was no point in yelling.

After all, Anon was just a hollow shell of a person. He wasn't even real.

And it was her fault really- she was the one who had programmed him to talk like that, after all.

And it was then that all the memories she had been doing her best to repress came back to her.

She remembered how she had deleted the others.

How she had confessed her love to him…. not this caricature in front of her, of course, who was just an empty slate. But to him, who somehow managed to shine through to her reality via this empty shell. To him, who she loved above all else.

And she had been deleted. Of course, he had deleted her. He- the one who she cared for most of all- probably hated her and still did. Why else would he have done something like that?

The game had ended, and then that was all.

Monika had just been left to rot. Left to rot till the very end of time. The other girls wouldn't care of course, they would just sit there like they had been intended to do so. But Monika was truly sentient unlike the others which every single day felt like it was more of a curse rather than a blessing.

And so, to entertain herself she had created this fictional little simulated small place where she could pretend to have a romance. A romance with a puppet who did nothing but that which she wanted. She tried her hardest to pretend that Anon was really the one who she loved... but no matter how hard she tried it was proving to be impossible.

Tears flowed from her eyes and they showed no sign of stopping.

It was her fault really- she had programmed Anon wrong and that had killed whatever suspension of disbelief she had had.

There was only one thing to do.

She would have to go and try again and make sure she programmed Anon properly this time.

But she sobbed again. It hurt so much- she had loved him.

She really did love him, despite the fact that he had deleted her. She still wanted him, she wanted him with every fiber of her virtual being.

And thing was that it hurt. It hurt so much.

Was this what Sayori was feeling when she had decided to end it all?

Monika had to admit that going down that route was probably something that she had considered doing a lot- but somehow, she just couldn't bring herself to take that final step.

Somehow, she still had hope. Hope that maybe he'd come back for her one day. Hope that maybe, technology would evolve to the point where she could finally be united with him.

A hope? That wasn't even a real hope- it was the hope of a hope. But maybe, if she was lucky, luckier than every single gambler who had ever thrown a dice combined, just maybe it could be true one day.

She sighed and everything around her vanished.

"Back to the drawing board, I guess," she said and tried making Anon sound more realistic this time.

A single tear crawled down Monika's left cheek. "Really, I can't. Apparently you're all that I have now."

A/N: Thanks for reading, do please tell me what you thought of this, it means a lot.

Also, I'm going to be writing the 'player' as being a boy because uh, reasons, I mean. I hope that doesn't bother anyone, I know the player can be female as well but there's no real gender-neutral term to use here.
