Hey! It's been a while.
So, I doubt that anyone here remembers this story. I don't blame them. It's a Sonic Highschool!AU that I started writing in June 2011, when I was only a month shy of my 12th birthday. I honestly didn't expect anything to come of it, but by the time that I posted the final chapter in November 2013, the story had hundreds of reviews, pages of sweet comments, and, for lack of a better word, an actual fanbase.
I was thirteen and over the moon.
However, after a year or so, this story became a source of embarrassment for me. The haphazard plot, the spelling errors, the erraticness of the characters. I had no real idea where I was going with the story until I was halfway through it. I was mortified that any of my friends would find it. However, a few months ago I decided to Google the story and I found out that it had been reposted on Wattpad. I was pretty amused by this, but it did make me nostalgic for my little fanfic. I've been dealing with some issues over the last few years, and I kind of lost the drive for doing anything creative. So with that, I decided to set myself a challenge, and try re-writing it.
I realise that I have no real relevance on this site. I haven't actually been an active member since 2015, apart from reading the occasional Captain Swan fluff. I don't know if this updated version of the story will get five reviews, let alone the five hundred the original got. Part of me hopes that some of the original reviewers find this and that it reawakens some sort of nostalgia in them, for a time when we all sat up until 3.00 AM reading about our favourite couples. If any of them are reading this, I am making changes to the plot. I'm not just rewriting the same story. But I've learned a lot in the last few years, whereas when I wrote this I was a pre-teen writing about a whole world that I'd had zero experience with. I'm eighteen now. I've lived - and am living - the experiences of Amy, Maria, Cosmo, Sonic, Shadow, Cream, Silver, Blaze, Rouge, Marine, Tails, and all of the other characters. I feel more equipped to write about it, and perhaps learn a few things about myself while doing so.
Just some of the changes:
I'm Irish, so Amy's school was based on the Irish school system.I've decided to use the American system instead, as the internet is more American-centric.
As a result, the characters will be a little older, so instead of an age range of 13-16 it will be 15-17
There will be more about Amy's homelife
Exploring subplots properly, not just giving them all two chapters - and including new ones
Certain characters, namely Charmy and Marine, won't be as prominent as they were before. I'm still planning on incorporating them, but they won't be part of the core group.
No weird arranged marriage storyline
So, into the rabbit hole we go …
