A/N: I cannot even begin to apologize for leaving you all on that cliffhanger for so long. There's been a ridiculous amount of things happening in my life over the past year and not only did my creativity leave me, but also my drive. I'm slowly getting back into writing again so hopefully there won't be another huge gap like this one.

Chapter 13 - Consequences

As far spread as The Pack and their associates were, many possible locations existed that would be considered prime targets. From warehouses containing stores of cash and weapons to several abandoned houses where the drugs were being manufactured in smaller quantities. All of them were marked on a list inside a rundown and forgotten apartment. The occupant of said apartment though was not at home reviewing that list.

An entire district away, a lone figure sat on a rooftop, eyes narrowed and sweeping the scene laid out before him. Small enough to escape notice of anyone walking beneath him, the vigilante known to everyone as 'Savage' planned his next move.

A cold breeze ruffled the white fur on his cheeks and caused his skin to shiver, but it went unnoticed by the hare whose sole attention was on the dockyard below. For weeks he had been paying close attention to which ships were coming in regularly. He hadn't been able to narrow it down to a specific one until he had relieved the dock offices of a copy of their records. One of the companies had turned out to be owned by a dummy corporation and Savage had taken to investigating that one in particular.

He was not surprised to note that when one of the ships marked by that company came into the harbor, that the security personnel and customs agents would mysteriously take long breaks during that time. He was surprised however at how often the ships would arrive during the day.

'They are either overconfident or have it arranged perfectly.'

He had originally planned for a night-op to deal with this particular target, but he was not opposed to working in the sun once in a while.

Leaning forward, the hare casually opened a long bag in front of him and began removing metal components from it. Humming softly to himself, he picked up a rifle scope and began assembling it.

A sharp poke to his side caused the fox to twitch in response. Groggily he let out a sharp huff before trying to roll over only for his muzzle to hit something hard. Nick gave a start, his mind clearing more quickly and two lids opening up just enough to show hints of sleepy green eyes. The Tod had never been one to shy away from a cozy spot to sleep, often curling up in some ridiculously tight areas if he had to, but he didn't think he had ever woken up with his nose shoved up against a car armrest before.

Blinking to clear his vision, he felt another sharp poke in between his ribs. This time however it was followed by a sound, one not of his own making. Smacking his lips together before letting out a wide yawn, his jaws snapped shut when he felt a much harder blow to his side, the same sound echoing above his head, though this time it was both clear and recognizable.

"Nick! Wake up! My mom is freaking out and I need your help!" A sudden 'thud' echoed throughout the small area.

Hearing the desperation in the voice, Nick immediately jerked wide awake. Memories of his most recent event flooded back into his mind causing him to leap to his feet ready to go on the offensive. Unfortunately he was not so clear on his surroundings, something proven to him by the large bump he would have on his head after it collided with the vehicle's roof.

Glancing around wildly, Nick recognized that he was back in his cruiser and he allowed his body to relax slightly. However it would quickly tense up once more as he spotted Judy climb through the opened back door and clamber in, attempting to calm down her mother.

"Oh jeez. Carrots, what's happening? Are you both alright?"

"Alright?! No we are NOT alright!" Bonnie's frantic cry was horribly shrill, causing her daughter to cringe as the sound reached her ears. "We were kidnapped and held at gunpoint by a psycho! How on Earth would we be alright?!"

"Mom! Calm down!" Sending Nick an exasperated look, Judy grabbed hold of both of Bonnie's paws and gripped them firmly. "It's over. We're fine. Look." In an attempt to try and calm her upset mother, Judy stood and turned around slowly, making sure her mother could see no marks on her uniform or patches of bruised skin anywhere. "It's okay."

Bonnie gripped her daughter tightly, running her own paws along Judy's cheeks, looking for any signs of discomfort. Taking the momentary break from the elder doe's cries, Judy shot her mate a look before pulling shut the rear door. Without needing another word, Nick lowered himself into the driver's seat and started the cruiser, pulling away in moments to head back towards the station.

While Judy sat in the back, whispering quietly to Bonnie in an attempt to soothe the older rabbit, Nick picked up the radio and keyed in the frequency for the District One's dispatcher. He kept the volume low so that it wouldn't cause any further stress on the two bunnies in the backseat.

"Spots, Wilde reporting in."

The response was almost immediate, the cheetah's voice coming in at a near frantic pitch. "Nick! Oh thank god! Is Judy with you? Please tell me she's there."

"Yeah, I'm here Ben."

An audible sigh came through the radio. "What happened to you two? The Chief has been trying to raise you both for nearly six hours!" Nick's eyes widened and he glanced into the rearview mirror to see Judy look just as shocked. "They found the cruiser but no sign of anybody nearby. They expanded the search out seven blocks so far. I'll radio everyone to let them know you are alright but the Chief wants to see you the minute you arrive."

"Understood. We'll be there in fifteen. Over and out."

"HOPPS! WILDE! MY OFFICE NOW!"

The booming voice of the cape buffalo on the third floor above them echoed throughout the precinct causing many other officers to cringe and cast pitying looks towards their fellow officers. Nick and Judy, who had just walked through the door leading to the garage, were not surprised to hear their chief bellow at them, especially after apparently having vanished for over six hours.

"Mom, I want you to go sit with Ben plea-"

"Your mother as well, Hopps!" Bogo's voice cut in over the rabbit officer's causing her to freeze. Judy and Nick both hung their heads in defeat before heading towards the stairs. Bonnie, still in a state of shock, merely followed along not truly understanding what was happening.

There were very few times when being called into the Chief's office was a good thing. This was most certainly not one of those times. Their first clue was when the door to the Chief's office was left open. No knocking, no delays. The moment his eye met with theirs, they couldn't stop the shudder traveling through them.

"Sit."

The word was said without emotion and with a moderate tone, yet the two officers knew it was a command and not one to ignore. The partners immediately scrambled towards a seat before ruling themselves into it and sitting at attention. Bonnie meanwhile slowly walked towards a smaller chair Chief Bogo had brought out for her.

Though he was a very large and often gruff mammal, Bogo did possess a heart. He offered the elder rabbit a comforting smile that seemed to relax her before turning back to his officers, his glare returning in full force.

"Where. Were. You."

It spoke volumes about how serious Nick was taking the situation when not even a joking peep escaped from his lips. The confident smirk did not make an appearance. Instead he and Judy related at length what had happened, from getting darted in the alley to waking up in the abandoned building to finding themselves back in the cruiser.

Bogo sat and listened without once interrupting besides shifting his gaze between them as they spoke in turn. When they were done, the Chief turned to Bonnie and had her tell about her experience. It took a great deal of effort but the doe was able to recount the events well enough.

"Thank you, Mrs. Hopps. Please go and sit with Officer Clawhauser until I can get this sorted out." Bogo let the bunny out the door of his office before quietly closing it. A click had barely reached their ears when another bellow rang out.

"YOU BROUGHT YOUR MOTHER ON A RIDE-ALONG?!"

Judy shrunk into her seat further, her mate mimicking her movements as both of them tried to appear as small as possible. "Sir I can expl-"

"Save it, Hopps. I don't want to hear it." Shuffling back behind his desk, Bogo sat down heavily before reading into a drawer and extracting several forms. Staring down at one, he huffed violently causing Judy's heart rate to spike. "There are several options at my disposal right now. One, I could fire you right here, right now. Two," he said with his voice raised over the stammering from both mammals in front of him, "I can suspend you. Again."

This didn't help either of their mood, both of them envisioning their careers over.

"Option three. I hate option three," the buffalo grumbled running his hoof over his face in exasperation. "Three, I don't do a damn thing because I actually need you out there instead of on the sidelines. Not to mention I know the two of you would most likely try to investigate on your own and I don't need that headache. So congratulations, you escaped unemployment."

Judy wanted to leap for joy while Nick settled for a subtle fist pump at his side. Both were thrilled that the Chief was giving them another shot but he wasn't done.

"I should enforce a disciplinary punishment on the two of you, but I am going to waive that in lieu of a much more serious one." Leaning forward Bogo made sure Judy's eyes met his own before he spoke. "Hopps. You and your partner's reckless behavior nearly ended with your mother in the morgue. I hope that instills in you the seriousness of what you two did. Dismissed."

Both officers froze as that statement hit home. Not wanting to push their boss any further, the two smaller mammals climbed down from their seat and hurried out of the office.
