"And five…four…three…two…and…one! Ok, you can stop now Safira! Good job, it might not seem like it, but you are getting faster." Sarah congratulated as Safira stumbled to a stop, the Faunus trying to hardest to fill her lungs back up from zero, her limbs feeling like very light lead, but lead all the same. Signal's track was almost never empty, even this early in the morning, but the other students were so far away that Safira didn't bother to hide the glare she was giving her spectral sister. The Faunus rubbing her arms to try and warm them back up despite the chilly autumn air.
"And how…exactly…do you know that?" Safira couldn't help but ask as she got her breathing under control and stood back up, the faunus crossing her arms as she did so. "'Cause unless your using your Aura to hold a stopwatch behind your back, there's no way you could know that." The younger girl continued, only to receive that look in response.
"Safira…For the last ten and a half or so years I've done nothing but look after you nearly every second of every day and night. I think at this point I've got a fairly good grasp on how fast your sprinting times are at this point." Sarah answered in a no-nonsense tone, both girls staring at each other for a second before both broke out into giggles. "But seriously, I know it doesn't always seem like it, but you are improving. Slowly but steadily."
I guess, now if only my grades were so easy to improve. Safira thought back as she started to stretch out her legs in order to keep herself from cramping. I don't have any tests I need to study for…right? The Faunus questioned tentatively, not really all that thrilled at the prospect of spending yet another weekend in the library. Thankfully receiving a shake of the head in response.
Three months into her first year, Safira was finally starting to learn the horror of actual school, something she had been mostly spared due to her various forms of homeschooling back on Menagerie. Even with the total brain power of two teenagers, Signal's curriculum was so hard that almost all of Safira's free time that wasn't devoted to training was spent studying…with the notable exception of the time she spent hanging around with Yang.
Speaking of her blonde friend, Safira couldn't help but feel immensely grateful for how much time she was willing to spend with Safira, especially when she had plenty of other options of people to hang around. Yang was popular, probably one of the most popular students of their entire year, and Safira could completely understand why. No matter where she was or what they were doing, Yang would have a grin on her face that was downright infectious, nothing seemed to get her down for long. She was constantly pushing Safira to go out with her and do things, from hanging out around in the tiny town of Patch that Signal was on the outskirts of, or just going out and exploring the forest around the campus…or the occasional prank pulled on whatever student earned her ire for the week…this week's unlucky recipient being someone who made a comment about Safira being her "pet bird" so Safira didn't exactly feel too bad when she saw the jerk with fake glasses and a moustache drawn onto his face with permanent marker. She was even too sure how Yang had managed that one, but she was grateful nonetheless.
In short, Yang had saved Safira from six years of having no one to talk to but Sarah…and the Faunus already had enough trouble what with her fellow faunus putting her on a pedestal. She really didn't need for people to start thinking she was talking to herself too.
It was then, almost as if summoned by her thoughts, that Safira heard someone call out her name, the blue-haired teen turning to see Yang casually walking over to her with her usual grin on her face.
"Out here again Safira? You know, there isn't anything wrong with sleeping in on occasion like a normal person. You should try it sometime." Yang commented, Safira smiling slightly at her slight ribbing.
"Yea…it's just easier for me to get my workout in early, you know?" Safira explained with a shrug, not willing to admit that the main reason was just so she could avoid this place when it got too crowded with the rest of the schools Huntsmen and Huntress trainees. All those humans, gathered in one place…it made her nervous just thinking about it.
So, she didn't, the young faunus instead finishing her stretching with a smile. "So, what are your plans for the weekend Yang? Going home again?" The faunus asked, trying to change the subject. While first year students weren't allowed to leave the campus by themselves, as the collective anxiety of a large number of teenagers was more than enough to draw the occasional Grimm or pack if there was a test coming up, if they were escorted out of the school by someone who could fight then Signal was more than willing to let them go. And since Yang's dad was a registered huntsman, not to mention being a substitute teacher here at the school, he could get them off campus without much fuss. So, every other week the patriarch of the Xiao Long family would come and get Yang for a weekend back at their house.
"Yep! Dad got us a cool new boardgame a few weeks ago and Rubes wanted to play again and gotta do some training with the old man so it's gonna be a pretty full weekend. How 'bout you?" Yang asked, Safira shrugging lightly.
"I donno, do some more training I guess, try and get some more work in with my wings." Safira thought out loud as she flexed the aforementioned extra appendages. "Other than that? Just a lot of studying and reading." Since Safira didn't really have anyone to talk to outside of Sarah and was somewhat behind compared to the other students not from Menagerie the winged faunus spent most of her weekends catching up on whatever studies she could. Sure, it wasn't exactly the most exciting thing to spend her weekend doing, but Signal's library was almost always quiet and relatively empty, as very few students, human or faunus, bothered to spend their weekends within. So Safira could find sanctuary there whenever the crowds of humans became too much for her. plus, it was one of the few places she could have a quiet conversation with her spirit sister without people noticing.
"…Ehhh, that sounds super boring! So, you're not gonna do that!" Yang announced with a smile that Safira almost wanted to call smug, a smile that set off warning bells in her head.
"Okay…so what am I going to do then?" Safira asked tentatively.
"You're coming with me obviously!" The blonde continued as she jumped forward, grabbed Safira by the arm, and started to drag the shocked faunus towards the front gate.
It was then that the winged girl's brain finally started to process what was happening, Safira starting to flail about in an attempt to escape but of course no one could escape from Yang Xiao Long's grasp once she had you, the girl had such a vice-like grip that Safira wouldn't be surprised to hear that she was hiding robot limbs under her skin. "W-wait a sec'! I really do need to study!"
"The you can study at my place! Dad's pretty smart…sometimes, I'm sure he can help you with your classes."
"But…but I wouldn't want to get in the way of you and Ruby spending time together." Safira tried all while Yang continued to drag her in the direction of the front gate.
"No problem! Ruby did say she wanted to pet your wings again. Plus, Ruby only really knows how to be excited about things so I doubt she'll mind much!"
Safira desperately wracked her brain for some way out of this predicament. Of course it wasn't like she had that much of an issue going and spending a weekend at Yang's house, as she didn't really think that her family would have been so welcoming at first only to turn on her now, but if there was one word that could be used to describe Yang's family it would be "Rambunctious". Even just a few hours spent around Yang and her equally as excitable sister was enough to leave Safira gasping for breath. And considering how much she had to get done this weekend she couldn't really afford to be taken out of commission for a good portion of the next few days.
But no matter how much she thought, she couldn't come up with a single excuse that Yang would accept. And so, with no other choice left to her, Safira sighed heavily as Yang began to drag her towards the front of the school. "there's nothing I can say to get out of this, is there?"
"Nope!" Yang answered simply, popping the p at the end just to rub it in.
The two girls eventually reached the front of the school, Safira eventually giving in and agreeing to come with so that Yang would finally let her go, where Yang's dad was waiting for her. Mr. Taiyang grinning widely as he noticed Safira alongside his daughter.
"Well hello there little Safira, having an interesting day so far?" The substitute teacher chuckled, Safira half glaring at the older Huntsman.
"Help Professor Xiao Long, I'm being taken against my will. This is a Faunus-napping" The Faunus deadpanned, both members of the Xiao Long household laughing at her tone.
"Well, that's a pretty serious accusation. I'm going to have to take you both in to the station for questioning." Taiyang answered, Sarah snorting from somewhere behind Safira.
"Well…at least his dad jokes aren't so bad." The ghost commented as the group began to make their way out of the school's gate.
Thankfully, the conversation over the rest of the trip through Patch and towards their house was fairly standard. How were her classes going? How was she liking it here on Patch? The usual. But all that changed as they approached their house. Safira couldn't help but tense up at the feeling of some unknown predator watching them from somewhere within the house, a sense of unease that they were all in grave danger. She opened her mouth to warn the father and daughter pair about what was coming, but before she could even utter a syllable the front door of their home was flung open and a blur of black and red shot out right at Yang-.
"Sis! Welcome back! Did you have an awesome week at Signal? Did ya see any really cool weapons there? Are you like the coolest person there?" -Oh wait, it's just an excited Ruby Rose…not that she's any less of a threat though. Safira thought as Yang was tackled by her excitable sister.
A threat that reared its ugly head the moment Yang opened her mouth to answer. "Yes, to all the above of course! But enough about me being awesome, look who we brought with us this time!" Yang said with a snicker as she gestured to Safira, the faunus just getting enough time to mouth "traitor" to her human friend before Ruby squealed with delight and launched into Safira's chest, the green-eyed teen not having the same level of fortitude that Yang did and was thus launched backwards and off her feet.
"Heya Safira! It's really awesome to see you again! Your wings still look really pretty! Are you gonna be here all weekend? 'cause that's awesome! We can play some board games, or some more Kung Fu Ninja Slayer Ultimate Death Battle, and then I can pet your wings again, and then do some training and then-." Ruby continued as Taiyang lifted the young human off of Safira, Ruby only pausing long enough to hug her father before returning her attention to Safira.
"O-oh…sure, we can do all of that. But I did want to get some flying training in at some point this weekend." Safira agreed after a moment, the faunus not even one hundred percent sure what exactly she had just agreed to do but was relatively certain that most of what Ruby was talking about would be fine…probably.
Unfortunately, her announcement that she was planning to get some flying training in didn't go over how she wanted, as the excitable girl squealed so loudly that Safira was fairly certain she felt her ears pop. "Oh my god, that sounds amazing! Can you take me up there with you?! Please, please, pretty please? That would be so cool!" The black-haired human begged.
Fortunately, her father stepped in before Safira had to say anything. "Hold on there Ruby. By the sounds of it she still needs some practice before she's taking anyone else up into the air…right young lady?" Taiyang asked, his tone telling Safira just what answer he was expecting here.
"Ah, yea. I'm not so great at it yet and flying with another person might be a little too much for me still. Sorry." Safira apologized, Ruby looking upset for a moment before bouncing back immediately.
"Oh well, that sucks. But we can still do plenty of other fun things! Like this new board game dad bought us the other day! It's called Remnant: The Game. Don't worry that you don't know how to play yet. I, the great and fearless leader of the Atlas kingdom, Ruby Rose, will teach you the ropes!"
"Wow, Rubes, I had no idea you were so good at the game…considering that I've won every time we've played." Yang laughed as they started making their way into the house.
"That 'cause you must be cheating Yang! How else could you always get those stupid trap cards right when you need them!" Ruby shouted back, both Safira and Sarah chuckling at the sister's antics.
"Well…at least it won't be a boring weekend." Sarah declared good-naturedly as she floated through one of the walls, Safira smiling in agreement.
And true enough, most of the weekend was more than fun, it was a blast. From playing with the sisters, to letting them groom her wings, to even doing some light training with Mr. Taiyang and Yang, with Ruby trying her hardest to copy their movements in the background. Everything was just awesome…up until it came time to try flying again.
Having decided to get a running start off the roof of the Xiao Long, after getting permission from Mr. Taiyang that she could climb up there and that yes, the roof could hold her weight, Safira found herself standing on the edge of the roof with the three humans watching her from below.
"Ummm…so you're sure this is fine? I don't really wanna crash through the roof into your kitchen or something." Safira called out for the third time, Mr. Taiyang scoffing and waving off her concerns.
"It'll be fine Safira. I go up there every year for Christmas so I know it can handle more than whatever you could possibly weigh." Mr. Taiyang commented, Ruby giving her dad a funny look.
"Why do you go up on the roof every Christmas dad? Isn't that when Sant-." "H-hey Ruby, let's not worry about that right now and instead focus on cheering on Safira…ok?" The young girl started to question, only to be quickly interrupted by a now flustered looking Taiyang.
"Ok…ok…alright then! I'm gonna get a running start, and then go for it. Ok?" Safira called out, Yang giving her a thumbs up in response.
"If you fall, make sure to do a flip first!" The blonde yelled, Safira rolling her eyes while Sarah snickered from off to her left.
"well gee, thanks for the vote of confidence Yang." Safira returned as she started walking towards the other side of the roof, the faunus looking over at her ghost-sister with a less than confident look. "Umm…so Sarah…since you spend all your time flying, do you have any pointers for me?" Safira asked, since she had never really flown so much as fell gracefully.
"You know I don't really fly, right Safira?" Sarah asked before sighing. "Well, get as much of a run up as possible, flap your wings constantly and fully, and try not to get too far up above the trees. We don't want to attract any Nevermores after all. Don't worry about crashing, our Aura's should be able to handle any crash landings. But most importantly…just enjoy yourself and do what comes naturally." The spirit finished with a smile, Safira returning the gesture before taking a deep breath, shaking her shoulders out, and flat out sprinting for the edge of the roof.
For a brief moment after clearing the side of the cabin Safira felt the pull of gravity to a far greater degree than she ever had before, like the planet itself was trying to make her fall…But then she realized that she had not yet flapped her wings so she was just technically falling.
And so Safira flapped her wings, the motion more muscle memory at this point that conscious effort what with all her time spent practicing. The two white appendages moved in sync, pushing downward and lifting her into the air. Again, and again she beat her wings, and higher and higher she flew. She could hear Yang and Ruby cheering as she didn't immediately crash into the ground and could vaguely make out Mr. Taiyang saying something, but she was to focused on the movement of her extra limbs and making sure that she didn't hit the trees to worry too much about what he was saying.
For a brief second the young Faunus was afraid that she would indeed hit one of the many trees that surrounded the house, but with a quick twin beats of her wings she just barely managed to clear the top of the forest, Safira feeling her Aura flare for a half a second as her legs brushed up against the top branches , and then…there was nothing but the sky before her.
Safira's eyes widened as she gazed up into the blue, clear, sky. it seemed to stretch onward forever, especially since today was such a clear day despite how late into the fall they were. While the sea of red, gold, and brown leaves below looked more like some kind of painting than a bunch of plants. If she focused hard enough, she could just barely make out the coastline in the distance, and she was certain that if she just climbed a little higher she could see even further than that, maybe make out the outlines of the many buildings of Vale…and for some reason she couldn't help but think that if she flew even higher than that she might find…something.
She felt free. Like nothing could hold her back anymore and she wanted to go even further.
But before she could act on that impulse a voice she couldn't ignore called out from within her skull. "Safira! Don't go any higher than that! You don't want to risk an injury on landing, do you?!" Sarah's voice called out, the older girls sounding oddly panicked. Safira turned her head to see just what was upsetting her friend so much. She'd only been flying for a few minutes, surely, she couldn't be that high yet. But when she turned her head, she couldn't help but freeze mid-flap.
Sarah was chasing after her, the spirit teen flying a few feet behind her with a worried look on her face. But that wasn't what really caused her to freeze, no, her attention was instead on just how high up she had gotten without paying attention. The three humans still on the ground were far enough away that she couldn't hear their words anymore, but judging by their frantic handwaving they were worried about her just as much as Sarah was. Their massive house was looking more like a dollhouse now than an actual human-sized building.
I-I must be like ten stories up! H-how the heck did I do that so fast?! Safira couldn't help but question in a panic as she began to fall back Remnantward, the wind whipping past her face as she plummeted.
"Safira! Don't freeze! Extend your wings and glide down, keep calm!" Sarah continued to give directions, her frantic but precise orders enough to break through Safira's panic before she went splat. Following her directions, Safira extended her wings with a snap and let them catch the wind as she began to quickly descend back to the ground. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to fully stop her downward momentum, and so when the trees rushed up to meet her, she couldn't help but cover her face with her arms and brace for impact.
Safira struck the top of the trees with a sound more like a bowling ball striking a plane of reinforced glass than a living thing hitting a bunch of branches, both her own Aura and Sarah's taking the force of the impact with a flare of black and blue energy emanating from her body for a brief moment before she came to a stop, her limbs tangled up in the many branches.
"ow, ow, ow, owww…ok so…that went well?" Safira chuckled out loud despite the fact that she appeared to be stuck up in the tree, her leg caught awkwardly by a particularly thick branch.
"…well, at least you've got the flying part down pretty well. Now you've only got to work on your landing strategy and you should be fine." Sarah commented as she flew down with her arms crossed and a smirk on her lips. But Safira could feel both her anxiety and relief flowing through their link so the spectral teen was clearly more worried about her than she was willing to admit.
"Hey! She's over here!" Yang yelled, both girls turning their attention to the ground to see the blonde teen stopping just under her tree with a nervous smile. "Geez Safira, I know you kinda didn't wanna come here, but you didn't need to try and "leaf" so soon."
"Sorry, sorry. I think I may have "bark"-ed up the wrong tree this time." Safira returned with a nervous laugh of her own, Yang snorting at her before yelling for her dad to get a ladder.
With snow falling outside and a book on the table in front of her, Safira was more than enjoying her afternoon in the library. Winter break was just around the corner, and while the Xiao Long's had invited her to spend the holidays with their family, first they had to finish up the midterm exams.
Not that she had anything better to do with so much snow falling outside. While yes, it had been so amazing to see frozen rain slowly fall from the sky and color everything white, and all the fun that came with it. Snow ball fights, making snow men, catching snowflakes on her tongue, it was pretty fun! But Safira had very quickly realized snow falling meant that the temperature outside drops drastically…and she really didn't like colder temperatures.
Which is why she was currently bundled up in as much warm clothes as she could find and hunkered down in the library underneath on of the heating vents studying for her math exam.
…or that was what she should be doing, but she had been focused for so long on the stupid numbers before her that she could barely even think anymore. She needed a distraction; something, anything, to get her mind off of the stupid equations that she doubted she would ever need again.
Safira leaned back with a sigh as she rubbed the bridge of her nose, trying to get rid of the migraine that was building behind her eyes while at the same time pulling her Scroll out from her pocket.
However, before she could even extend the screen, Sarah called out to her. "Safira…we've still got a lot of work to do." Sarah reprimanded from within her own head. While they couldn't really do any real training with so much snow falling outside, this was the perfect chance for the two of them to practice the whole possession thing. Sarah was currently fully linked in with her and they were trying to coordinate their movements such as turning the page of the book or writing out the equations. And shockingly enough, it was actually working out better than either of them would have thought. Safira couldn't really explain it all that well, but it was almost as if she knew what Sarah wanted to do the moment that she thought it, like they were reading each other's minds. It was weird…but kinda cool at the same time.
I'm not gonna use it for that long Sarah. I just can't think about math anymore right now or I'm going to start looking at the world in nothing but fractions. Safira thought back, the amused snort of the voice in her head more than enough for Safira to assume that Sarah was fine with her taking a break.
Safira put her head on her hand as she lazily scrolled through a bunch of news articles, the faunus trying to find any information on ships that had gone missing. The faunus had tried multiple times at this point to send a letter back home to tell her mom about how school had been going, how she had made friends with Mr. Taiyang's girls, and just about her life in general. But considering that she hadn't received a reply once probably meant that the ships carrying the mail might not have made it. That or the guy who worked at the post office was a racist and was just keeping her letters from going out, both options were pretty viable if she was being honest.
It was while she was scrolling through the news that Safira saw a headline that made her pause, her eyes going wide as she began to read through the article. It was a story that originated from the eastern coast of Vale, specifically a port town that did most of its trading with Mistral, about a protest that was led by…
"…The white Fang huh? I was wondering when they were going to begin working on this continent." Sarah muttered from inside Safira's head, the spirit teen sounding almost…resigned by the fact.
Y-yeah…I wonder if dad and everyone are coming here soon then…Safira couldn't help but consider as she navigated away from the article, the author not even bothering to hide his racism in the later paragraphs.
"…They might, but the odds of them actually knowing you're here are pretty low. Unless your mother-."
Sarah, you know mom said you can call her mom too. You don't have to pretend like your not part of the family. Safira interrupted, the faunus enjoying the feeling of embarrassment coming from their link.
"Right, right. Well, unless mom managed to get a letter to father then I doubt any of them know you're here at Signal…though if you want to go to a rally when they come around here you might be able to track down some information about Blake and the others."
Maybe…Safira agreed, though in actuality she was quite anxious thinking about going to such a rally. While yes, there would be plenty of Faunus at such an event…there would also probably be a lot of humans as well. And not just regular humans like Yang and her family, but angry humans who hated their kind and would be more than willing to hurt her for just being there.
Not that she didn't want to see her dad and Blake again. Heck, she'd even be happy to see Adam again. But at the same time…the thought of possibly being attacked by more humans caused her to freeze in fear. A fear that Sarah was quick to pick up on.
"Don't worry about it Safira. After all, father didn't really want you to get involved in the White Fang anyway so if he did see you at a rally, he'd probably have quite the lecture to give to you…and me too." Safira comforted, though her words caused an entirely different chill to crawl down her back.
Yeah, that's a good point. Safira agreed as she put her Scroll away and got back to studying.
So, Sarah, are you going to tell me why you wanted me to reserve a training room today? Safira asked as she swiped her Scroll across the door reader, a buzzing noise accompanying the door to the personal area opening. While a lot of Signal's Huntsmen and Huntresses facilities were designed for whole classes to use at one time, it did have a few private training arenas for when someone wanted some privacy to work out their own techniques or style. While yes, they were all fighting against the Grimm, Safira had learned over the last year that it could be quite competitive outside of school. Missions offered were usually given to the Huntsmen or Huntress with the highest ratings or, in other words, their popularity. And often times the most popular fighters were those with their own unique styles of fighting. And as such, Signal provided these arenas for prospective warriors to hone their craft away from prying eyes.
"We're going to be doing some private training of course. At least until you get comfortable enough with this to do it in front of other students." The spirit answered as they both entered the room, the door sliding shut behind them. "You've seen some of the upperclassmen shadowboxing right?"
Yes, plenty of times. Safira answered easily as she thought back to the last Huntsmen conditioning class. Since they were in the middle of spring almost all of their physical classes were taking place outside, and as such almost all the Huntsmen and Huntresses students could be found out in the training fields. While as first years Safira, Yang, and all the others of their class still had a teacher walking them through exercises all the students in their fourth year or above were expected to do self-training, as they were already expected to have developed the beginnings of their own fighting style by then. And often times the older students could be seen fighting against invisible opponents.
"We're going to be practicing a version of that today…only in your case you've got a real-life imaginary villain to fight. Me." Sarah announced as she cracked her knuckles, the fact that she didn't have any bones not stopping her from looking pretty intimidating.
"I-I'm going to be fighting you?!" Safira half-shouted, the faunus forgetting to keep her words in her mind in her shock. In all the years that Sarah had been training her to not just be another victim of the Grimm they had never once fought against one another, the older teen always preferring to just go over what exactly Safira should do as opposed to training together. Of course, for most of Safira's life they had never really had the privacy to fight against one another, but still it was shocking to hear that Sarah was actually willing to go at it today…and a little exciting too.
"You are. You've gotten about as far as I can teach you without actual sparring with you. After all, as the man who taught me to fight said, "there's really no better way to learn how to fight then getting your face pounded in over and over again." And that's exactly what he did to me." The spirit quoted, looking a little sheepish at Safira's horrified expression. "don't worry, I don't intend to be quite as brutal with you as he was with me, but it's still true that you'll only improve with an actual opponent to fight against. Plus, this will give you a leg up on the rest of your classmates, including that bi-…awful roommate of yours." Sarah explained, Safira giggling a little at her spirit sisters attempt to not swear around her.
Alright then, so…how exactly are we going to do this? Safira asked as she stepped into the ring, the faunus taking a moment to go through her stretches.
"Just a regular spar. Though considering I can't exactly move like a regular living person you'll have to adapt to my hovering as we go. Just consider it training for fighting against someone with a levitation Semblance. Try to avoid my attacks as much as you can, but I want you to try and get a punch in if you see an opening alright? We've focused enough on your speed, it's time to get you used to going on the offense." Sarah explained, Safira more than a little apprehensive about throwing any punches at her lifelong friend. And apparently her anxiety was more than enough for Sarah to pick up on, as the spirit rolled her eyes a moment later. "Relax Safira, I'm already dead remember? The worst you could possibly do is stun me with your Aura or something."
R-right…I guess that's true. The faunus agreed, Sarah crossing her arms with what could only be described as the smuggest smile ever on her face.
"And its honestly pretty cute that you even think that you're going to even come close to landing a blow on me. Very cute." The spirit taunted, the Faunus's concern immediately melting away to be replaced by a desire to hurt.
Oh, it's on now. Safira announced as she pressed the countdown button on the control panel on the side of the room, a beeping noise beginning that, once it ended, would signal the start.
Both teens studied each other as the computer continued to count down to the start, though Safira could admit that she was feeling a bit more nervous about what was coming than her previous comment made her sound. How would Sarah fight? Would she use her Semblance? These types of questions clawed their way into her mind. But with a shake of the head she forced them back down. She knew how Sarah would fight, she was the one who taught Safira after all, the only question was if she could react fast enough to make this an actual fight instead of just a beat down.
The beeping continued to speed up as the start of the match fast approached, both girls staring at each other in tense anticipation. And with a single long beep the battle began.
Ok, gotta watch for-. Safira's thoughts were interrupted when Sarah, who had been across the room, was suddenly just a few feet in front of her. S-so fast! The faunus thought in a panic as she twisted her head to the side to avoid Sarah's elbow, the spirit aiming for her face with her opening blow. Unfortunately, Safira's reaction was apparently just what Sarah was apparently hoping for, as at the same time Sarah reached forward, grabbed Safira's wrist, and pulled her off balance.
Safira couldn't help but release a startled cry as she was pulled forward, only to continue on until she was lying face down on the ground. The faunus attempted to recover, trying to roll to the side and leap back to her feet, but by the time she turned around Sarah's fist was already a hovering a few inches from her face.
"First point goes to me. Ready for round two?" The spirit taunted with a challenging smile, one that Safira was quick to return.
Of course, just remember after I'm done winning that you were the first one to throw a cheep shot. Safira thought back as she lashed out with her foot, kicking the spirit in the shin, causing both their Aura's to flare blue and black respectively, and sending her tumbling end over end.
...Sigh, once again, the moment I thought I caught a break at work at work things got hectic again. at this point I'm just going to stop writing hopeful words here because I seem to curse myself each time.
This chapter is just a few scenes from Safira's first year at Signal. Nothing too earth shattering but just needed to set up what she's training in and whats going on in the world.
Until next time!
