Whatever Mabel was expecting when bringing Dipper to meet her friends most certainly didn't happen.
She couldn't believe her eyes as her brother tipped a rack of clothes onto the floor after kicking an employee in the shin, shoved her friend into the mall fountain and made fun of another until she burst into tears in the middle of the food court. Their parents couldn't believe their eyes either as mall security escorted the twins outside after Mabel called them to pick them up. A single shopping bag hung from Mabel's arm, a frown plastered on her red face as Dipper stood rather proud of himself next to her, his arm being tightly gripped by the security guard.
It was clear that he didn't like being grabbed like he was but he chose not to act up, having caused enough havoc already. Mabel was visibly upset though he was unsure if it was due to his actions or the embarrassment of being dragged out of the mall as the remainder of her friends watched wide eyed; not that he really cared.
The day itself was boring. Dipper was mindlessly dragged along from shop to shop by Mabel and her group who spared only a few seconds for introductions before bolting to some clothes shop Dipper didn't bother to remember the name of which applied also with Mabel's friends though that hadn't stopped him from having his own fun. Apart from when he was in the Mindscape, Dipper had to find his own fun in the institution which more often than not included tormenting his fellow inhabitants. It was a kill or be killed type of social ladder and Dipper refused to be at the bottom rung and with Bill's encouragement he had everyone eating from his palm.
It was hard to stray from that headspace now that he was back in normal society but it didn't make it any less fun.
His therapist didn't see it that way.
After the mall incident Dipper's parents quickly seen to it that Dipper was attending weekly appointments with a therapist by the institute's recommendation; to help him be reintroduced to society.
"How did it feel when your teacher gave your detention, Mason?"
Dr Park insisted that using the name Dipper wasn't a healthy habit and that it will only strengthen his relationship with life in the institution. She refused to call him Dipper and every time that God awful name slipped past her lips, Dipper felt his entire body twitch in anger. She was a bitch and he hated her and surprisingly Mabel did too. On the rare occasion that she was brought along to the office as well she was mercilessly questioned about Dipper's actions and she hated it.
The twins had begun to slightly build back a relationship over their mutual hatred of Doctor Park.
"It felt like I was being made fun of." Dipper decided to humour the therapist for once, a difference to his usual silence.
One of Dr Park's eyebrows raised as she jotted down some notes in his file that was pitifully thin; he'd been with her for 8 months and her notes were about as good as his relationship with his parents.
"Would you like to elaborate, Mason?"
He rolled his eyes. "Not really." The boy leaned back in his seat, eyeing up the doctor with a smirk. She didn't retaliate. He licked his lips, thinking over his words. "I did nothing wrong, the guy was asking for it when he tripped me."
Dr Park eyed him cautiously, scribbling down more writing onto a page. "He was asking to have his nose broken?"
Dipper nodded.
Dr Park sighed, setting her pen down to cup her face. She stared at Dipper and he stared back with a bored expression. This was going no where.
"Ok, Mason. It seems that your time in the institution was beneficial but now our issue is we have to iron out the creases the hospital caused when helping you there." Dr Park started, folding her hands on the desk. "You had no emotions and now you are feeling them all, and that's scary I understand."
No you don't.
Dipper gave her no response.
"You have a lot of bottled up anger and frustrations, anger that is proving harmful in public situations." She bent across the desk to look closer at Dipper. "You understand your behaviour is harmful don't you, Mason?"
Dipper clicked his tongue.
Dr Park sat back in her seat before sighing again, nodding her head towards the door.
Finally. It had become a tell-tale expression between the two that meant Dipper finally got his freedom. He practically jumped from his seat and threw the door open with a grin. The office was just suffocating and it was such a refreshing breath of fresh air to step back into the waiting room. Mabel was perched on the edge of one of the seats, her legs dangling off the floor, a dazed and bored expression on her face. His parents were on the next two seats to her left, both of them a lot more alert.
They both dove from their seats as Dipper emerged from the office like a bear from his cave with flustered smiles on their faces. Dipper gave them nothing more than a nod before sitting on Mabel's other side as the two entered the office to see Dr Park who smiled at them from her seat behind her desk, like a king at his subjects. He especially hated how powerful she made herself look.
Mabel shifted slightly, turning in her seat to look at her brother who was lounging against the wall, eyes closed with a smile on his face. She chewed her lip debating if she should follow through with her original intention. Despite the fact she was slowly but surely getting somewhere with her twin after 8 long months she didn't know if he'd appreciate being disturbed.
"What do you want, Mabel?"
She jumped, coming back to reality form her thoughts to find Dipper watching her with an unreadable expression. He was still laying against the wall but his head was turned in her direction, his gaze focused on her. His eyes widened at her lack of response, a clear motion of hurry up with whatever you wanted.
"I hate it here." Mabel said after a moment. "I can't believe mum and dad are still making you come here and that they're still bringing me. That woman is evil, I swear."
Dipper snorted. "A witch maybe, I could see her as a witch. Her cauldron is definitely under her desk."
Mabel laughed softly. Conversing with her brother without being the butt end of his jokes was nice. "Her broom must be the stick that's always up her ass."
Dipper punched her arm, shaking his head with a smile. "Careful she might hear you."
Mabel felt herself laugh again and was about to come back with another remark about the demon of therapist, embracing the flow she was falling into with Dipper only to be disrupted by the office door flying open again.
Their parents stood in the doorway, Dr Park behind them, smiling at the twins from over their shoulders in such a condescending way that just made Dipper itch. A grin was glued to each parent's face and like a cherry to top of the cake of such a perfect day at Dr Park's office they spoke in sync, like Dr Park had them practice.
"Well kids, this summer the two of you are going to Gravity Falls!"
############
haaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiii! I'm so happy to have this story back up and going again after a criminally long hiatus. I was going to do a longer chapter but at the minute my aim is shorter chapters more often unless something big happens in the real world or in with Dipper and Bill. I apologise for the lack of Bill in this chapter but he'll be back and kicking for real when the twins go to Gravity Falls next chapter :)
Hopefully I'll have another chapter out this month, my hope is an update every 1-2 weeks.
love y'all
~Chip
