Chapter 11: Costumes
Author's Note: There is a lot to unwrap from KH3, I will try not to spoil anything, but if I must, I'll put a spoiler warning in the author's note. Also, today's chapter is brought to you by the Union Cross phone game. To clarify, the reason the unions exist while the MoM is there, is cause to my understanding, the unions were made after the Master's warning of the Future but Luxu left for his quest before, so there will be a time where the Unions existed with the Master but not Luxu. At least that is my interpterion.
The creation of unions was the starting point of a long process held by the foretellers. The Master agreed to help them set the unions up, but made an important suggestion, to let them do what they want if they collect Lux and fight against darkness. This policy has led to a self-governing order of the unions, to the point where the foretellers can practically do nothing and still get results.
Gula was happy with the results, all he had to do was pop-in every so often and check to make sure no nightmares had developed, and the Lux was coming in at a steady rate. But one day, he went to make a surprise visit to a party hanging around the local fountain. It was a standard meet and greet, he met with everyone and took a tally of their Lux.
"Well," Gula looked around, "It seems that half your Lux was obtained by one person, which one of you is it?"
One of the keyblade wielders piped up "That would be Brick, he'll be back in a minute"
As if on cue, a portal opened and a figure walked out, it was a young man with short brown hair, dark blue cloths, but what left Gula speechless was the accessories. On his head a was a black hat, with electrical lights on it, around his neck was what looked like a fluffy scarf and trailing behind him was a balloon shaped like an old duck.
He turned to see Gula staring at him with this mouth wide open, "Woah, Master Gula, I didn't expect to see you here."
"Ah… well, you all seem to be doing well, I gotta…. I need too…" The Leopardos excused himself, not sure how to react to the unique look.
He returned to the castle and let himself into the kitchen. Standing there was Ava and Ira, having a heated discussion.
"But what if you're out of MP?" Ira reasoned, "A good mega-potion would be way more useful."
"Anything a potion can do, you can get from an ether," Ava mentioned.
"This discussion again?" Gula interjected, "Just carry around an elixir and you get both benefits."
"But they are so expensive," Ira muttered, "Those moogles don't let go of them for cheap."
Ava looked at Gula, "What's up? You look confused,"
"How do you do that; I'm wearing a mask?" Gula complained, "But if you must know, some of the higher-ranking members of my union are wearing some… interesting clothing."
"Oh, my kingdom hearts, you have that too?!" Ira yelled, "I thought my union was just crazy, one of my members was wearing a bunny helmet and a police uniform!"
"Wait you guys have that too, I thought my union was playing some prank on me?" Ava added, "That kid with the moogle costume was serious."
The group went off in a rant about the strange connection of costumes. They began using the monitoring room to see all the strange additions and costumes of the defenders of the world. Some wear normal uniforms, others were wearing normal clothing with some strange accessories, and a few were even wearing cloaks like the master.
"Oh," said a voice behind them after some time, "Are you guys spying on the other keyblade wielders. That's my favorite activity why didn't you invite me?"
The group of apprentices turned to see the master hunched over the group.
Gula blinked, not wanting to show his fear and shock, he responded, "Your favorite activity is spying on us?"
"Now to change the conversation," The master didn't acknowledge the statement, "What are you all up to."
"We are trying to figure out why out unions are dressing like a belt and zipper themed circus." Ira explained, "I mean this kid has a miniature moon with clouds floating around his head, that's not even possible."
"Oh, that, that's my fault," The Master said as a matter of fact.
"WHAT?" The three apprentices turned to the master after a beat.
"I said that it's my fault, are those robes blocking your ears."
Ava shook her head, "We mean, how did you manage to create all of this?" She gestured to the screen of a girl in Victorian clothing talking to a guy in a frog hat.
"Well, as you know we gather lux through the data in the book of prophecies, some of the future fashion sometimes slip forwards as well. Stuff like my cloak is gonna be used a lot, as well as memories of unique fashion, that is why you see some of the… stranger designs. Personally, I think they look fabulous, but you are here criticizing them, so what do I know?"
"But why do they wear it?" Ira mentioned, "I mean it looks impractical."
"It's a sense of individuality, and some of the accessories even offer some boosts, so why not."
"I suppose…" Gula mentions.
"Oh, and by the way, Ira, I don't think you have any right to say anyone else has an impractical taste in clothing." The Master stated, flicking the end of Ira's horn.
A beat passed, and then another. Before the younger two foretellers burst out laughing.
So, the Unions would continue to wear their strange clothing as almost a tradition. Many scholars would wonder what the great keyblade war looked like, but none of them knew that if it wasn't such a dark day, it would be hilarious to see a guy wearing gag glasses in a deadly duel against a girl in a neon dress.
Author's Note: Man, I did not know how to end that story. So, I am back, once again. I am not going to promise a permanent return nor a steady schedule, but I will promise to do my best. This chapter did not turn out great, but it was something to start the creative juices flowing. Also, I'm planning another story similar to this one; stay tuned for more. Thank you all and may your heart be your guiding key.
