It wasn't fair. Truth and love may have been heroes in a fairytale, but in real life, it was as cruel as it was beautiful. Knowing may have been half the battle, but feeling was the entire war.

Keep watching! Rei fought to keep the tears back. The salty drops of sorrow weren't going to bring her cousin back. Using Rei's extra sensory powers and Ami's illusive recreating power along with police files of the account, they'd been able to play back the scene. It was the moment that Kagome Higurashi, her cousin had been killed in her own home while the culprits made the family watch. She'd been raped, tortured for days until they decided to make her younger brother choose either himself and his entire family or his only sister.

Souta Higurashi chose to save the many over the few. He'd done what any politician would've done. Rei had seen his face; it was bruised and barely recognisable. His eyes were dark and lost the innocence he'd been known for, the thing that Rei loved most about him. The police were questioning him as he was their number one suspect.

Miss Higurashi and the grandfather hadn't been scratched during the three day ordeal. They were tied up, but otherwise, the culprits just ignored them.

Rei tried to make sense of everything. Nothing was adding up. Three days and no one could sense something was up when they came up to the temple. Souta and his grandfather were always working outside and selling charms to customers. People had to come by... Had no one heard the screams from inside?

Looking around, she stopped upon finding a broken wood frame with a picture of a much younger Souta smiling with his sister by his side.

Turning, she saw Ami frown and put her hand to her chin as if she were in deep thought. Rei didn't need to ask her what she was thinking; she already knew.

No other frame had been turned over or destroyed. Rei wanted to believe Souta had thrown it in anger and disbelief but in her heart, deep in the pit of her soul, she started to believe that this investigation to the epilogue of a tragedy. No, it was the opening line, the prologue.

Picking the photo up off the ground, Rei sighed and hoped she was wrong.
