Hello again to everyone. Man it's been forever and a day since I came on here. About three years give or take? Well I am sorry that I never came back to this. I went through a rather severe time and to explain it all I will eventually put the full story of my life on my profile, it ranges from depression to workplace bullying and how I basically told a couple of people to kiss my behind as I began my new life in a new country. Do enjoy this part and I hope there are not many mistakes. I haven't written a single piece all these years and I am still a bit rusty. Send me a review and I hope to write more soon. Kind regards - Rebelliouscat
Chapter twenty six
"Three years after the fall of Jurassic World, the debate over Isla Nublar rages on….."
I look over from the steaks I am making on the stove while Owen seems to be transfixed on the news.
"Moral question: Do dinosaurs deserve the same protections given to other endangered species, or should they be left to die?"
I take the steaks off the stove and put them on the plates and leave them on the counter, I stand behind Owen and I listen to Doctor Ian Malcolm make his point.
"He has a point you know"
I look down at Owen and he is looking at me already.
I sigh, "I know he does, but…..Rex is my baby and I can't help but feel that they made the wrong choice"
He places a hand on mine and soothingly rubs in circles with his thumb. I press a kiss to his forehead and he gets off the couch to help me with dinner.
"Do you want to go and help me with cabin tomorrow? It will take your mind off things for a while"
"You seem pretty thrilled about getting this cabin done"
"Well yeah, I mean we would have made it with our bare hands. It's something we can boast about to the kids when they are older"
"You talk as if we have them already"
He smirks and leans down, "I do see them in our near future if you play your cards right"
I raise my head a little bit, our lips brushing lightly as I speak, "Owen…."
He wants to close the miniscule space but I stay just out of reach. I make my voice light and breathy
"Owen…."
"Yeah?"
I smirk at him, "Your stir fry is burning"
I grab the plate off the counter and I hear him swear as he turns back to what he was doing.
I grab something to drink and he brings the plate with the side he was making
He holds it out triumphantly, "Saved it"
Later on we find ourselves snuggling in bed and yet my mind cant help but wonder as to what decision has been made about the island. Owen is lightly snoring beside me and I go back to watch the late night news.
My heart breaks at the decision taken by the government. There has to be a way…
The next morning Owen drives us down to the cabin and he wastes no time before getting to work on the roof.
"I'm gonna go and take a look around"
"Don't wonder off too far"
I look at him with a raised brow and he gives me a smile
"You could get lost"
"Considering the fact that I have better senses than you, no I don't think I can get lost"
"Maybe I just don't want you too far out of my sight, there might be guys hanging around to steal you from me"
I wave him off and take a look around. The natural beauty surrounding me still makes me breathless sometimes.
I watch as a squirrel darts about before it makes it way back to its little hiding place.
As of late Owen seems to be more and more focused on the idea of having children, it has been three ears since we have become so serious with one another, however I can't help but feel that maybe we are going about this too fast. My biology is totally on board with the idea, quick to respond to the man I now call my Alpha and demanding as it goes without bearing children.
I on the other hand am more cautious, after the altering of my own DNA, I don't really know what will happen if I actually do have a child. Will it even be a normal baby? Will it be a total gross mutate? What if my child needs special care that I cannot provide for it? I barely know myself sometimes and I grew up with the ability to lift a car if I wanted to. I lean against a tree and wonder what it would be like to have a family.
Owen would make a wonderful hands on father, wanting to take his kid everywhere and make stuff together. I imagine him making little lopsided pigtails if we have a daughter, and making sure she would have her lunch packed before school because the schooling system makes trash food with no nutrition. I roll my eyes, while thinking about the lively argument he had made about the school lunches and why he would pack a lunch every morning if he had to.
I hear the sound of tyres on the ground and I look in the direction I came from and then the voice of Claire. I hear Owen whisper "Oh boy"
As I make my way back to the clearing I hear her offering to get Owen a beer. I come out of the line of trees and call out for her to make that for both of us. She looks surprised to see me but then she looks at Owen and says "I should have known you went back to her"
She looks back to me and gives me a lukewarm greeting before we head over to the bar.
We sit together in an awkward silence with our beers, and I look around the bar. It's not that big and doesn't have many customers yet. I tell them I am headed to the bathroom and then they begin a conversation that quickly heads south
When I am about to step out of the bathroom I hear Claire laughing like a loon and can't help but wait around the corner rather than go back to the table
"I can't believe that you think that you left me"
What?
"Replay that conversation in your head…"
It feels as if my brain and heart froze over
"…..Lockwood's little flunkie called me. Rescue op….."
He didn't tell me that someone called about rescuing the other dinosaurs off the island. Why didn't I even hear the phonecall? Was I asleep or something?
"Your name's on the manifest"
She stops for a moment before saying one last thing to Owen
"I should have known that I was just a replacement"
I hear her shoes as she walks out of the bar and I take a breath before making my way over to the table. Owen is staring at the door and I place and hand on his shoulder.
As soon as we are through the doors of our home I can't help myself
"Why didn't you tell me about the call?"
"We were done with the island. Everything was fine and now…."
"Now it isn't"
I sit heavily on the sofa
"I don't like that you hid this from me Owen"
"I didn't think it was a big deal. Nature will do as it intended"
"Rex is my baby"
"Even if he ate humans and is a danger to everyone but you?"
The answer he receives doesn't make him happy but it's the truth
"Even then"
He walks away from me and I head into the bedroom. I hear him switch on the tapes of Blue and her sisters when they were babies and the slight scent of salt water is in the air. I take out the bags from beneath the bed and wait for him to finish reminiscing.
He slowly opens the door to our bedroom and looks at the bags. Barely a moment later he hugs me to him tightly
"Let's go save our babies"
Claire steps onto the plane just as Owen and I had begin to doze off on the seat. I wait for her to take a seat before nudging Owen to get off of me, he moans a little in protest and I roll my eyes. He nuzzles his face into my chest for a moment more before sitting up and making our presence known.
"Owen!"
She looks at me, "Rae"
I give her a small wave and she begins to introduce everyone.
"Nervous flyer?"
"Would you ride a thousand pound horse that's been abused all it's life?"
"I rode my motorcycle through the jungle with a pack of raptors"
He points over his shoulder at me
"My fiancé took on the Indominus raptor head on because she could"
I swat him on the shoulder gently before looking over at the kid
"I did it to save their lives, but he makes it seem like I did it for fun and games"
He turns around and kisses my forehead
"You are the most badass thing out there"
"And you are lucky that I am"
The young man looks at the both of us before stating that we are not compatible with him. I smile with mirth
When we land I notice the amount of people around. I grip Owen's arm gently, remembering his inability to heal as fast as I and whisper to him
"Something's fishy, there's too many people"
"It could be because this is a big rescue op"
He looks over
"You've never been wrong before though. We'll just have to keep an eye out for anything weird"
I sit back in the seat and Claire is the first to get off and greet a man called Ken. They exchange pleasantries and I hear Owen introducing himself as the animal behaviorist. Owen then looks over to me
"My partner and fiancé, Rae. She specialized with the other bigger animals"
I shake Ken's hand and he smiles at me, "A beautiful young lady"
"A flatterer Mr Wheatley"
"I only speak the truth"
We get onto the armored vehicles and there is a whole lot of noise as we make our way to the entrance. Franklin takes out and starts spraying his weird smelling bug spray and I wrinkle my nose at the smell. I lift my hand to my mouth and turn away slightly to get some fresh air. He then offers the thing to everyone around him.
"The T-Rex should be dead now right?"
"Yeah, well it's impossible to know the max life span of a clone in a completely different environment. Take a caveman that would have lived years….."
"So she's be dead now right?"
"He, and no I don't think he's dead", I say to him while watching out the windows
"How would you know about the T Rex?"
"Because I raised him"
I smile at Franklin, showing a bit more teeth than necessary.
The gates open loudly and we are taken into the park and we look around at what once was designed to be beautiful. Claire shares a look with Owen and I hook my pinky with his. He looks over at me and then looks at the place in which we all fight the Indominus.
"Bad memories?"
"Some were good"
The truck stops and the sound of large footsteps come closer
"What was that?"
Everyone looks outside and I can hear Franklin trying to contain his freakout
"Is that the T Rex?"
Zia looks out the window and says, "I have to see this"
Without warning she gets up from her seat and opens the door, Ken not too far behind reminding her that the area is not secure.
The Brontosaurus calmly walks through the area and begins munching on some leaves not too far away from us.
Zia on the other hand is having an emotional moment
"Never thought I'd see one in real life"
The large lizards slowly treks off to graze elsewhere and we get back onto the trucks and make our way deeper into the park.
Once we reach the area we all get of and Franklin begins to disarm the system. I look up at the volcano and notice the thick smoke filling the air, almost blanketing the signal system at the top of the building.
Owen stands beside me and looks at the same scene, "It's worse than I thought it would be"
"Do you know what you're doin'?"
Just then the doors slide open.
