The night's warm for May in Toronto. Humidity slicks everything and everyone warm and sticky. Sam hardly notices the heat, this being one of the worst nights of his life – and

that's saying a lot. Tonight, Marlo told him she was pregnant, with his baby. He's been looking for Andy ever since. McNally, with her ever-perfect timing, had walked in just

in time to hear the good news, and fled just as quick. He's not sure what he's going to tell her when he does find her; he just knows he has to find her. "Your going to be a

father" - having not quite sunk in to his consciousness yet.

He's already called Nash and Tommy, searched all her usual hideaways, with no luck. After five-plus hours, he's finally dragging himself home, only to discover her sitting on

the steps of the darkened porch. He feels his pulse quicken to an alarming speed and makes himself slow down as he approaches her. She knows he's there –had to have heard

the truck- but won't look up, just keeps staring down at her hands wrung together.

"I always thought it would be us," she says, finally meeting his eyes only to have him lower his. "I thought when kids finally came they would be ours." She sniffs and wipes

her eyes hard with the heel of her hand. "I always imagined a little you, running around with a dark mop and goofy grin." She gives a small laugh but it sounds hollow to him.

Kids, she's thought about having kids with him. If this were any other point in time he would be on cloud nine. He always assumed –given her childhood- that he might have to

work a little for kids.

And now - now it's all gone to hell.

He would do anything for Andy; he would lay his life down for Andy. But there is absolutely nothing he can do to fix the current situation. He does not want a baby with Marlo

but if there is one, he will be a father to it, and a damn good one too. He never wanted kids until he met Andy and now he can't imagine not having them, with Andy. But he

also can't imagine walking away from his own child, regardless of who it's with. The only other thing he knows for sure is that he won't lose Andy, not again.

He slowly walks up to her and kneels in front of the steps and reaches for a tear stained hand. "McNally", she won't look up. He tugs gently on her warm wet hand, "Andy" she

finally raises her watery, red eyes to him. He pulls her closer to him "Andy, you are the most important person in my life. I won't lose you, I can't - not now, not after we've

come this far." Andy shakes her head and starts to pull her hands away but he holds tighter still. "Look, I know this isn't…." he starts to falter. I mean what's he supposed to

say 'not an ideal situation' No Shit! He wants the magic words that will bring her closer to him, to let him back in just a little. He pulls her back toward him until their foreheads

meet and says the only thing he's certain of, "I love you". He feels her start to weep again and pulls her into his lap. They're now sitting on the walk in front of his house and

he doesn't give a fuck what the neighbors think.

He's rocking her – ironically, like a child- because he doesn't know what else to say and he just wants her close to him; to feel her gives him strength. "We will get through this

Andy –together- you and me. And we'll have kids too, a lot of them, little McNally's and Swarek's." He rambling, he knows, but he wants to keep her close. He thinks if he

keeps rocking and talking they can stay like this, together, and that's all that really matters right now.

He's noticed that she stopped crying and was looking at him with a funny look; a kind of wonderment and determination mixed together. He feels his mouth go dry because

he's not sure if she's about to make his life or end it. Also, it scares the shit out of him that she has the power to do either. Andy smiles at him –something small- but a smile

none the less. "I love you Sam Swarek." He smiles back but waits for the other shoe to drop. She sighs but continues undeterred. "I can't imagine my life without you in it. Plus

we knew it wouldn't be perfect, I mean it's us, right?" Andy sniffs again and leans her head against his chest.

Everything feels looser now; he takes in a deep breath and feels like it's the first one tonight. Sam knows there's still a lot to work out but he feels a strength that was missing

a few hours ago. He knows from past experience that together he and Andy can work through anything. They're better together - always together.
