Chapter Ten: Will You Follow Me Into the Dark?
Ezra hummed quietly, fingertips trailing lightly against the walls of the ship. She didn't have mechanic work yet, so she was wandering around and exploring until it was time for her to start. So far, she'd managed to avoid other Imperials on her first day, and was relieved to have been able to keep a low profile while she hung out with Valen or Kallus.
Those two were…attentive and sweet, she'd admit.
A full three days on The Lawbringer and she confessed that being around them made her more and more inclined to just enjoy their presence and affections. Valen, as usual, was eager and enthusiastic; he just had a slight change in the way he was around her, being a little more cockier and probably a lot more to how he usually was and his usual personality (if still submissive and puppyish for her). He was a lot more snarkier and was quick to tease and bait her now.
Then there was Kallus, who was a quiet but strong support for her, which was odd and made her confused and uneasy given who he was and the fact he'd been chasing her and her makeshift family for some time now. He was supposed to arrest and capture her and her ilk, not decide to help her out and get her the treatment she needed, and then decide to (for her) help out the others against the Inquisitor and Kallus' Empire. He wasn't the type to go against his loyalties, so this change of allegiances (for her) made her head spin.
She really didn't know how to actually handle these two anymore.
Glancing at the time, she thought it was a good time to head to her work area. Getting dressed into her mechanic suit when she got there, she moved quietly to her work station and looked at her tablet, seeing what was assigned for her to do. She got to work immediately, resolving to find either Valen or Kallus after this and try to regain control of things.
After all, there really was just no way she had feelings for them, nor them for her.
Working silently, she tried to stop her nerves from getting to her. Pretending to be on this side, working along her enemies and trying not to get caught…she was a nervous wreck sometimes. Trying not to let anything slip made her tense and paranoid.
"Good job, Dume," her 'supervisor' came by, glancing at her work. She gave him a weak smile, trying not to say anything and therefore keep herself from saying anything stupid or suspicious. "I'm glad Baron Rudor recommended you and brought you along."
Caught off guard and unwittingly pleased and proud, her smile actually grew larger and more surer.
"Thank you, sir," she allowed herself to reply.
"Makers, can no one figure out the problem with this thing?!" she heard the other supervisor cry out in frustration.
Both she and her supervisor, Solarlast, looked over. "I see McKinnon is still trying to fix that TIE and that no one else here has managed to figure it out either," Solarlast muttered.
"Is there a problem?" she couldn't help saying, involving herself.
He glanced at her. "That TIE has been short circuiting and we don't know why or what to do to fix it."
Ezra hesitated. "I probably can't do much or figure it out either, but…may I look at it?"
He raised an eyebrow but nodded. She took a deep breath, brushed off her nerves, and headed over to the TIE in question. She began examining it, eyebrows furrowed. Without thinking, she began tinkering with it, adjusting and screwing around with the TIE without asking. But no one said anything, not breaking her concentration and watching her at work and letting her continue. When she finished, she turned it on and she watched closely as it started up as normal.
She was startled by the clapping and cheers around her, blinking rapidly and whirling around to face everyone. She nearly fell off, only to be caught and steadied by Solarlast and one of the other senior mechanics.
"Nice work!" Mckinnon complimented, impressed. "We've been scratching our heads over that one since yesterday!"
She blushed, not sure how to take being complimented for fixing the enemy's problems for them. She was proud of her work though…
She hesitantly shrugged and explained what was wrong, still over thinking the issue in the meanwhile.
She really shouldn't be helping the enemy.
"Ridiculous," Ezra muttered to herself, poking her food around on her plate. "I hate Imperials. They're all scumbags."
"Is that so?"
She looked up and saw Valen leaning back against her door, watching her in amusement. He looked a bit sad.
"Am I one of those scumbag Imperials?" he asked teasingly, even as his face looked hesitant.
She scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Don't be dumb. You don't count. You're my dog, remember?" But she grinned cheekily at him to soften the odd insult-endearment. "I grew fond of you."
"Good," he said smugly, walking over and sitting down next to her. "Anyway, I think I can guess what your problem is, even if you shouldn't be so aggravated about it. I mean, it does bring a lot more attention to you than Xan and I would like, but…the mechanics really like you and actually pretty much respect you and your skills. They think you're fantastic and Solarlast and Mckinnon actually thanked me for bringing you along and recommending you to them."
Surprised, she looked to him questioningly. He nodded.
"They think you're brilliant and would recommend you for hire wherever you want to work at, you know, if you ever decide to quit being a rebel and switch over to the Empire," he smirked and poked her arm.
She both blushed and scoffed. "As if!" Though she did feel pretty prideful, hearing that she was that good that even Imperials thought so.
Feeling in a good mood, she glanced at Valen who was busy looking at a datapad right then. Grinning wildly, she let herself drape herself on him, leaning into his side. Her breath blew into his ear.
"You know —you've been such a naughty pet, being all smug and taking advantage all the time," she murmured, tongue darting out.
He shivered as he felt her tongue against his skin.
"Are you going to punish me?" he dared to taunt her.
She inwardly huffed. This guy…
Her hand trailed down and it brushed lightly against his crotch, dancing around his groin until he squirmed in his seat.
"You would deserve it," she nipped hard at his ear, admonishing him.
Valen sucked in a huge breath. "I'm sorry," he mumbled.
Ezra was extremely pleased that it looked like she was getting things back under her control after all. Valen turned his head slightly, looking at her seriously. It made her pause and feel odd…
"Can I bring you somewhere?" he asked quietly.
"Yeah, I guess," she said reluctantly, wondering what was up and what he was up to.
He got off his seat and waited for her to do the same. Then he held out a hand. He stayed still patiently, while she stared at his hand strangely. She gave him a hesitant look, but he just looked at her in reassurance.
Not reassured at all, but curious, she took his hand and she let him lead her out of her room and to wherever he wanted to take her. However, to her surprise, they ended up in the hangar, where all the TIEs were and where she had been earlier.
"I wanted to set something up for you," he said solemnly. "Stay there for a moment."
He left her and went behind a TIE. She couldn't see him so she didn't know what he was up to. But she didn't have long to wait, the next moment having the air filled with the sounds of music. He went back around the TIE and went back to stand in front of her again, holding out a hand once more.
"The first time we met, even if I didn't remember it until recently…I was a complete and utter jerk," he said with a grin. The grin disappeared and he looked solemn once more. "But now we're at this point and the future is uncertain."
He took a step towards her and kept holding out his hand, and she finally reached out to grab it. He smiled warmly at her and she felt mesmerized at this Valen Rudor, seeing him like she'd never seen him before.
"I do know I adore you and that I meant it when I said you were it for me. I'm not going anywhere, Ezra Bridger, though I'll follow you to wherever it is you decide you want to be next."
Valen pulled her towards him and began to lead her into a close dance.
"Love of mine, someday you will die
But I'll be close behind and I'll follow you into the dark~"

A/n: Aaay! What's up, guys? Here's a short chapter to show I'm still alive XD I don't know if anyone is still reading, but I doubt it so I might just do what I want with it. Hell, I'll make it a reverse harem, jump the shark, something. I don't know, hahaha! Still…if you are reading, I would appreciate a review :D
Quick Points:
1. Kallus' Name: So now that he has an official name, I have to go through my stories and change it (cries). So much extra work for me…
2. Kanan and Crew: Probably will be back in the next chapter, with a huge argument –I mean discussion to be had…
