DAISY
With King Richard due to return in three days' time, Robin's plan to storm Nottingham seemed like the perfect way to welcome the King home. At least that's what Robin saw, all Daisy saw was worry and a lot of things that could go wrong. King Richard's return was a secret anyway and with Prince John visiting, any attempt to storm Nottingham Castle would surely be met with more resistance than usual.
Robin wouldn't listen though. No one would. They all thought the plan to be a good one. A final hurrah before the King came home. They would have to go back to their old lives then, or new ones. The King would surely pardon them all and give the land back to the people. The Sheriff and every other Tyrant would be replaced and Prince John would know the meaning of punishment.
Daisy supposed she couldn't blame their cheerful attitude. It was a wonderful thing to picture the life that came with King Richard's return.
Robin had been going over the plans for days, so that everyone knew their part and everyone would be safe and accounted for. They wanted to get the taxes and foil the Sheriff again but no one wanted to lose their lives over things.
There was a sense of nervous excitement as they dressed, dizzy excitement as they rode towards Nottingham and fearful excitement as they arrived and began infiltrating the Castle. They split up here, Daisy and Djac were left to clear the area of civilians for where they knew would be fighting. Robin, Much and Will headed towards the vault that held all the taxes and Little John and Allan were causing a distraction outside.
Daisy knew that Robin had tried to get Archer – his newly discovered half-brother – to fight with them but he had declined. Frankly she couldn't blame him with Robin and Sir Guy as brothers, it was a hard place to be. Besides she'd noticed he seemed to have a rather personal relationship with her cousin which was just another reason not to get killed.
Robin had estimated that it would only take an hour to break into the vault and start loading up the taxes to take back to the people. The first Daisy heard that things were going wrong was the cry of Prince John and the feeling of a sword to her back. One look at Djac and she knew they'd have to fight their way out of this. The soldiers were probably expecting an easy fight and having underestimated the women they fought, were probably regretting their actions right now.
They were losing the fight. What were they? A small band of rebels with bows and swords yet the Sheriff had fireballs and man power. Just looking around her she saw destruction beyond repair. How had things got so out of hand? Daisy could see people cowering in the streets, could hear anguished cried over loved ones lost and she knew they'd greatly underestimated their enemy. She wished Robin had listened to her. She could only see two ways out now, slaughter or surrender. They both ended in death anyway.
Most of the people they'd roped into helping them had long since left. She didn't blame them for this was a blood bath.
Robin had been making an impassioned speech to everyone in the square but Daisy hadn't been listening. She was watching Gisbourne. She'd noticed throughout the fighting that he seemed different, angry but not at them.
She'd noticed how he wasn't fighting for the Sheriff or against him. What he was doing was helping civilians when no one else was looking. She couldn't understand his motives but if he was out of the game then it only made things easier for them.
Where flames were involved Daisy knew they had to get out. Robin was intent on waiting till the Byzantine fire had been poisoned so he could shoot one of his famous Hood Arrows' in to destroy everything but Daisy was concerned about getting out with everyone still alive.
The battle between the two sides had been raging for almost two days' now and Daisy could see Robin wanting to hold out just a little longer. If they could just hold out until King Richard arrived, then everything would be ok.
It wouldn't be ok though.
She should have been paying attention.
She didn't think anyone would pay any attention to her. She was rarely seen during raids and thought she'd have been forgotten. She didn't even see the Sheriff sneak up on her or pierce her with his blade. She didn't cry out, she couldn't.
His face, twisted into a cruel smirk, embedded itself in her mind. She staggered away from him. Her lower stomach was bleeding badly but she managed to hide it. She re-joined the group and ran when Robin gave the command.
In Sherwood, quite some time later. She couldn't tell really, the world seemed full of colours and blurred all over. She knew she was near her end. Robin staggered towards her, his hands outstretched.
"I've been wounded," he said.
She held him.
"I think the blade was poisoned. Oh Daisy, I imagined such a life for us. If we had but just survived till King Richard's return. Just think of the life we could have had. I wanted to give you a family. Now that cannot be but you must live on without me."
"Robin, I have a confession to make."
"I don't need to hear it."
She staggered under his weight and the pressure coming from her own wound.
"You do. I was not careful Robin. I have been wounded as well, by the same poison."
She shifted him slightly so he could see the blood seeping from her.
"Daisy, no, no! I wanted so much more for you."
Daisy wiped the sweat from his brow.
"It's alright Robin. It's not the ending we wanted but we're together."
"I love you Daisy," muttered Robin.
"I love you too."
They shared a kiss, a short and sweet one before their souls left the world of the living.
Around them Hood's outlaws bowed their heads in grief and remembrance. There was not a dry eye in the forest that night. When King Richard finally made his way back to England and Nottingham it was grave news he was given.
There stands now a statue hidden in Sherwood Forest of Robin Hood and his beloved Daisy. Even death could not stop the love they shared for each other.
