Happy Birthday to Harry Potter

"I remember when the candle shop burned down. Everyone stood around singing 'Happy Birthday'."
—Steven Wright

A Harry Potter's surrealistic daydream whenever his Next-Gen family sings the birthday song to him.

"Happy Birthday!" songs filled the smoky air
Aftermath of the battlefield razed till it was bare
People left and right counted the bodies standing
Partying with relief at the end of everything
Yet, the downfall of Voldemort still haunted me

Before the new era dawned upon the souls of the free
I heard the rumbling thunder from somewhere afar
Ripping through the dark sky with no twinkling stars
The music growing louder, coming nearer…
Hovering around me in a blur
Dancing to the beat with every clap
Ah, where's the maiden with the heart-trap?
Yesteryear that was gone in a flash

Today came down with a crash
Oh, for a nightmare I must wake

Honoring a legacy that made the world quake
Ascending to the moment of truth
Rita Skeeter with her quill of uncouth
'Round the Daily Prophet went around
"Yes, the readers wanted more than astound!"

"Pop! goes the weasel" screams at the cake
Over the candlelight at the daybreak
Time and again this day repeated itself
The same as always, but I felt less like myself
Every wrinkle that was etched into my beaten face
"Rest in peace," I said to the me from beyond time and space.

Author's Notes:
* This is an acrostic poem. If you haven't noticed, the first letter of each line spells out the title.
* Just in case you cannot see the rhyming scheme, this is written in the AABB format.
* Very experimental. You are expected to read this with an open mind.
