Thank you so very much for this alternate ending. Like another reviewer said, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for as I shifted through fanfiction. The real ending always broke my heart with how there is no closure for Gale and Katniss after all they have been through together. That ending, which seemed so unrealistic to me, still bothers me when I think about it a decade later. I thought it was believable that Gale would leave for a year or two to give Katniss space, but I believe that he would have come back and that him and Katniss would have rebuilt their friendship, if not more. Moreover, I think that ever Katniss with her difficulty interpreting her own feelings should have known that Gale would not have gone straight from the guilt of Prim’s death and the loss of his best friend to the lips of another woman. Not when his love and friendship for Katniss had already endured so much. I think when she entertained that notion, she was lying to herself to make things easier.
I feel like this is the most realistic alternate universe sequences that I have seen. The characters seem true to canon and there isn’t any unbelievable drama that pulls you out of the story because of how unrealistic or over the top it is. I also love how you’ve incorporated details from the original epilogue. All in all this truly feels like a real ending that could have been published.

I really like how Gale thinks of Prim as a sister , and is devastated at her death. Your ending was so good, it could pass for Suzanne Collins' work! Amazing job, and keep up the good work, always!

I love this very much I am team gale and I think that peeta should still be happy even without katniss and I am glad I am not the only one who thinks that gale didn't kill prim I hate when people say that gale did kill her I still do wonder if katniss is still freinds with him and if gale even is the godfather

YAY! I've been looking for this fanfiction for so long, and I finally found it! See, I read it a few months back, before I had an account on this site, and it made me really happy. As soon as I got an account I started looking for it so I could fave it, and...I just now found it. W00T W00T!

But wow, this is beautiful. I like how you emphasized that Gale was devastated by Prim's death too; he certainly cared for her a lot, and I imagine he would never get over the guilt of indirectly causing her death. They were both damaged by it, not just Katniss. I love the first paragraph of the epilogue...sums up pretty well why I ship Galniss! I love that they built a cabin in the forest. Looks like they really did "run off and live in the woods" X3

Yay for Pelly! Gah, I ship them so much. I'm happy that you had Katniss and Peeta stay close, and also that you had Peeta and Gale become friends. Idk if they would, but I like to think that they did. And d'awwww, their kids are so adorable! Your ending had a finality to it that the actual book's didn't, and I just love that last line: "After all, he has to stay with me and cause all kinds of trouble." Brilliant!
