Your writing itself is good, and if you write more Merlin fanfic I'd like to read it. However, I think Merlin is out of character. He is a strong person, both physically and emotionally. He smiled at Arthur after the prince told him his father wasn't worth his tears. He performed powerful magic while unconscious and dying of poison. Don't get me wrong, I like Merlin whump, but if was hurt, I don't think he would be crying in Arthur's chambers about it. Finally, unlike in fanfiction, there are several times when Arthur makes it clear that he cares about Merlin, so Merlin would not think Arthur doesn't care.
I hope you don't think I'm being too critical, I'm just trying to help. :)
