Rest in peace Arsinoe I'm so sorry to hear you lost your battle against cancer. You were a gem.

I like this chapter and I also do see problems with him being romanced by Elven Wardens (With all of my female Wardens, I picked either Zevran or modded companions who are romanceable). I also dislike how he's written off as a great guy in the fandom, and to me, he's just a lazy prick.

Enough said.

FUCKING FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT. My first play through was a goody two shoes Cousland who romanced Alistair and so I never made any choices he didn’t disagree with and thought he was so sweet. Imagine my surprise when I played again as a much more pragmatic Dalish who was with Zevran. The utter hypocrisy of how he fights you on every little thing when he was the one to put you in charge completely ruins the romance for me when I know he’s one decision away from throwing a tantrum and going off to pout. And yes, the other companions leave under certain circumstances but it’s for things like tainting Andraste’s Urn or using the Anvil of the Void. Not refusing to spare a specific abomination and refusing to kill a man he doesn’t like when making another Warden gives you another shot at the Archdemon.

I have clearly been waiting a long time to rant about this. _

You are an amazing author, your sirius story "Garden Gate" is one of my favorites ever and I'm so saddened that you are no longer with us in the fanfiction community where your stories are among the best and longest works I've come across. You were truly a talented person and writer

I never read this chapter, and I'm so sorry I didn't! This is somewhat how I pictured my HNF Cousland, but yours is funnier than mine. Bitter and disillusioned, by Howe's actions, Loghain's apparent approval, Anora's treachery and Cauthriens role in the trap. I can only hope that this Cousland is wary of Eamon's designs, ally or not.

I know, I know, it's not exactly fair to Loghain, and I'll admit that. He's working with what he has at his disposal. Even so, you got the idea that Ferelden could have gotten outside help from anyone who isn't Orlesian, like the Nevarrans. If Anora or Loghain had walked down that road, maybe Loghain wouldn't have felt the need to sell those poor elves. Maybe Ostagar would have been a different outcome.

By the way, I have some questions regarding Cormac Cousland (Chapter 9, I believe) and Bann Teagan. What happens to Cormac Cousland after the Landsmeet? And what are your full thoughts on Teagan, now that you are suspicious of him? I've read Masked Empire by the way, so ask me questions if you like about Teagans role in it. Or anything about it, really.

Sad but still still beautiful

When you write the next dragonsteeth could you make it from Leliana's POV to explain your opinion of her? I know you think she has ulterior motives for the Orlesians or (more likely) Dorothea vying for the position of Divine. The thing I don't understand is how this would be possible from what we know. We know that Leliana had been in Lothering for some time, based on Bethany's comment about missing Sister Leliana and her stories. So let's say they heard rumors of the Blight, and she was sent to monitor its progress, she would have been there knowing nothing of the outcome of Ostagar, she couldn't have known that the Wardens were still alive and that Alistair was one of the living. Also, the only ulterior motive I can think of her having as she follows you, is ensuring the wardens and crown of Ferelden would be amenable to Dorothea in the future, which seems to be fairly obvious and not at all sinister. Even if she is a spy, I can't think of her doing anything that benefits someone else's interests in a way counter to Ferelden's. Not because she's incapable of harming Ferelden, just that I don't see it as being plausible.
We also know that she is an agent of the Chantry, being a seeker and the left hand of the Divine after assuming the role of the most religious person in the Warden's party. As a result, I don't believe that she's working for Celene if she's a spy, unless Celene is an ally of Dorothea's or their goals align.

Really throughtout characterization of Signy here, not unlikely many more of your one-shot's protagonists and Brownwyn's Flock of Wardens as well. Reading your summaries regarding the various personalities behind DA had me pondering a great deal and considering some not so obvious hints that Bioware sprayed here and there, giving much more depth to a game that lacked little of it.

I'm a great fan of both your novels and your writing per se, and hope to see more of Dragonsteeth ASAP while I finish reading Victory at Ostagar.

Ha! Seems like everyone here got wrecked. Rendon got turned into a broken chew toy, the mages went BOOM HEADSHOT on the Archdemon, Morrigan got a forced abortion, Loghain/Anora got taken down a notch, and Habren is now married to Vaughan. Let's see how long THAT marriage lasts.

Have to admit, I was expecting something even more horrid for Morrigan. She got off lucky, all things considered. Magical rituals have a tendency to go horribly wrong.

Only thing that gets to me is that some of Rendon's men, and the nobles, survive. That's one reason why I take the throne: I'd hunt every single one of those little shits down if I were King/Queen. Fergus probably has that covered, though.

What you did for Loghain and Anora, I think, is fair, and probably the way I would have it if it were an option. Anora is fickle with her loyalties and backstabs you when its convenient. Loghain, while perhaps not responsible for Ostagar, marks you as enemy number 1 and does everything in his power to obstruct you (including possibly giving your families lands to that monster Howe).

And yeah, I always thought there was something between Cauthrien and Loghain. Hero worship at the very least, unrequited love on Cauthriens side as a possibility.

Quite enjoyable.

Howe got a good send off, spitting defiance into the teeth of the Archdemon. Avernus would clearly have been a gem of a party member in Origins. Ghoulish old man, I can't believe I've never read a fanfic about him coming down from his Peak before! And I never twigged to Alistair and Hawke's similarities and opinions about nobility until this chapter.

I would have put more of a trial in front of Nathaniel with Fergus Cousland on the throne, probably, but that's a small thing.
