Reviews for The Apple Thieves
Cannon011 chapter 1 . 6/5
This is extremely well written! It's not very often I see someone write Legolas' character very well, but you nailed it!
Nurayy chapter 1 . 2/14
I just sent the review and rereading it I realized that I haven't written it the way I wanted.
I don't want that you get it the wrong way what I wrote about Thranduil. I really imagined his face, and imagine Legolas would imagine exactly that. But I caught also the hint of sadness in his thoughts, and that he might be so really missing home. Somehow so sad, but it also made me smile.
I just loved their conversations, they are so very deep in a simple way. And always there is this small hint of sadness, but the smile is there all the time. Because of the sweetness and fine lightness you packed inside. And I just loved how Legolas told Sam that on this quest, they are all equal, the way in which he showed him that. I love the way Legolas is building up Sam's selfconsciousness. He does him so much good. I guess that Sam can draw much from it on this quest. We know how bold he will be, and what steadfast support and precious friend he will be to Frodo. A friendship is beginning there, between two so different beings. And great Legolas, it is so much like him.
So, I hope I could express some more about the amazingness of this story.
Nurayy chapter 1 . 2/14
I love this Samwise POV. So special and rare to be seen. Very wonderful, and sweet.
Legolas' coffing fit was exquisit, and so good how Sam was left stunned as he finds out he was stealing appels with a prince.
Oh and I imagined Legolas turning the word gaffer in his month and wondering how Thranduil would take it if he called him so. I imagine Thranduils face, so funny!
Wonderful how you describe how Legolas changes from youthful and light, to ancient.
Loved the way Legolas plays with the apple lining the pieces up on his leg, before eating them. And I love how he makes Sam feel at ease with him. I would expect nothing else from Legolas how I love him. You did this all so well.
SilverDragon1218 chapter 1 . 1/13
That was amazing. I was drawn into the writing like nothing else I've ever read before. It was perfect and sweet. The characterisation was spectacular and just wow. I'm so glad I found this little gem. Thank you so much for sharing it! Have a good 2020!

This is beautiful ️
LuteofLorien chapter 1 . 11/24/2018
This is superb, very well done. Your narrative voice is consistent and convincing, and you capture Sam’s mannerisms with a great deal of sympathy, avoiding the pitfall of caricaturing him. Your exploration of Sam’s estimation of his worth in the fellowship feels highly realistic and it delves right into the heart of Tolkien’s great work, in which a hobbit gardener is the true hero and the power of friendship is greater than skill at arms. Your portrayal of Legolas is lovely as well, it’s interesting seeing him through Sam’s eyes: both how his elven nature makes him seem strange and unreadable, and also how he breaks through these barriers to prove to Sam that he really is just a fellow apple thief and that’s okay. A beautiful tale of baking and bonding, one of the best one-shots I’ve read. Hats off to you!

summerartist chapter 1 . 4/3/2018
I grabbed by face with delight at that last line! I love the way you write. Everyone is so warm and cozy with each other in the fellowship. You write Tolkien friendships so well and the moods and settings are lovely. Also, I adore how you write Legolas as a down to earth (middle-earth) elf.
TheRedScreech chapter 1 . 3/31/2018
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH! This is so flippin' cute! I am near-squealing with glee!

I love your prose for this! Sam's inner thoughts, with the grammar and his emotions - and it's all wonderful! :D :D :D

But...what about the cobbler? Did Legolas like the cobbler? I'm picturing him tasting just a bit off his spoon, and his eyebrows shooting up in surprise at the beautiful combination of sweet and tart from honey, sugar, and apple. This is so homey and beautiful, and I adore it!

Instant favourite! Thank you for writing!
