PoneyRose chapter 1 . 6/29 it's really nice ! thanks ! |
p00hb34r2002 chapter 1 . 6/4 Eh, the LOTR movies left some bits out to cut down on run time (and yet still managed to be rather long) and some scenes weren't the same as they were in the books, so I believe they probably changed the timeline around a bit and got rid of the lapse between Bilbo's 111th birthday and the start of the Fellowship journey, for the sake of simplicity, shorter run time, and to save a bit of confusion for those who hadn't yet read the books. Why, I'm not sure, but then again I also don't know why they added Tauriel into the Hobbit movies even though in the book the captain of the guard of Mirkwood is some nameless Male shmuck, and Tauriel doesn't even seem to exist, and Kili was never hit with an arrow and it was Fili, Kili and Bilbo who found the secret door. And Thorin died in a tent not on a giant frozen waterfall. And they were lost in Mirkwood for a really long time and the Dwarves were also stuck in the dungeons for a really long time rather than the short time the movie showed. And in the LOTR Denethor never jumped/fell off a building. And there was a fellow named Tom Bombadil that they completely cut out. And-I should probably stop now. Sorry. This was pretty good though. The Fanfiction, I mean. |

BlueRubyBeat chapter 1 . 6/28/2014 Nice to just hear Bilbo tell a story to the Company. But I can just imagine his face after he threw the rock going 'Uh oh...' kind of thing. ;) |

dreamflower02 chapter 1 . 2/18/2014 This is a very cute little gapfiller, and a really nice blend of book and movie-verse. It's really harder to blend them in TH than it is with LotR, so I congratulate you on doing it so well! Since you asked about the timelines: Most of the facts you mention in your note are absolutely right. The Fell Winter was in Shire Reckoning 1311-12, and at that time Bilbo had just turned 21 and just entering his tweens (about equal to a 13 year old man) so would certainly be old enough to rescue his little cousins that way. Although at the time of Bilbo's adventure with the Dwarves (in Shire Reckoning 1342-42, or Third Age 2941-2942), in book-verse Paladin would only have been 8, and Saradoc would have only been a baby about a year old, depending on what month of SR 1340 he was born. But as you point out there is a big difference in the book and movie timeline (everyone except Frodo seems to be about ten years older than they are supposed to be, except for Merry and Sam who seem to be about the right age during the Quest, but are too old at the Party. Frodo is the right age at the Party, and since the Quest in the movies is no longer than a year later he'd not have changed much. In the movies the Ring did not prevent aging though it did in the book.) I figure ten years because Aragorn was ten at this time in the book, but about twenty in the movie-verse (going by the age he gave Eowyn in the Extended Edition). The timeline in the movies is very different than the book, so your guess at ages is as good as it gets. Paladin would at *least* be 18, and old enough to make trouble, and as I said, with the timeline mess-up, he could be up to another ten years older as well. PJ blurs the timeline enough that it's reasonable for a fanfic writer to do the same thing when trying to mix book-and-movie! |
Anime Princess chapter 1 . 2/10/2014 That's a nice explanation as to why Bilbo is afraid of wolves more than orcs and wargs. And having Dwalin offering to train Bilbo in his 'letter opener' is a good thing. Wish he'd really done that. And, at least, the dwarves are acknowledging Bilbo's potential! |
StellaCartoonlover chapter 1 . 1/2/2014 You are right about Ori being mistaken for the youngest and also why, but I'm not sure if he's the second or third youngest of the company (I don't know if Fíli is older or younger), but I like to think second. Kíli is the youngest. Bofur is Bombur's older brother, but I don't know their ages or who is older or younger than them (except those previously mentioned), Dori is older than Nori, Balin is older than Dwalin and is one of the oldest, I think Oin is older than Gloin and I have no idea at all about Bifur. Thorin is also one of the oldest. |
GirlFromNorth chapter 1 . 12/16/2013 Lovely story, and thank you for the history lesson of hobbits! (It's been far too long since I tried to learn more about that and I'm afraid I've forgotten most of it..) Again, wonderful fanfiction and I really enjoyed your take on the characters and Bilbo's reaction to the wolves. :) |
ImmortalWar chapter 1 . 11/15/2013 awwwww...that was sweet. |
