I admit, I'm confused.
Why exactly does Naji want to marry her? She has no money, no exceptional grace or presence, no family connections, no special skills, and is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of beauty.
What drives this man's choices? This is an awful lot of trouble for a toy having been taken away. This is also not very understandable if he really just hates dwarves or even Thorin, himself. Being a mayor's son, he's surely well educated, high born, and desirable with ladies at least from an economic standing. He's exceptionally good at traveling, if he passed by all the orc strongholds by himself or made it through Mirkwood intact. And now we learn he's very well connected to at least one other powerful man.
So, with all that, how and why is he doing what he's doing?

this was great! i've been reading this over the past few days, i would have finished this sooner except i wanted to try and drag it out for a while longer, because i loved this story! i love Rue, i love Thorin, i love them together, and the changes you've made to the original story have been really really interesting! i just love so much of this XD
i'm glad Thorin got a chance to let it out, and cry. sometimes you just really have to do that (oh, can i mention i love how much Rue cries? i don't think i cry as much as her, but i cry a LOT so it's nice to see), and i'm glad Rue stayed there with him.
so Rue can't be burned? that's really interesting! i wonder why she's like that :O
ooo, Rue is really starting to be affected by the ring now. i wonder what's going to happen? i might have to go back and check, did Gollum call the ring his precious in this story? if he did, I hope that gives them a bit of a wake up call, and help them to realize something's up with the ring. although thinking again, how she reacted by refusing to give him the ring, saying he'd have to fight her for it, should definitely bring up some red flags.

Hmmmm... I was thinking that her fire retardant abilities was maybe due to the ring, but she didn’t have the ring the first time.
And... what is going to happen between Thorin and Rue if it is against dwarven law for them to marry? Can Thorin change the law when he is King Under the Mountain and has possession of the Arkenstone?

Also, I forgot to say, that chapter when Rue touches his hair, what was up with Thorin’s reaction? Is it because only married couples touch each other’s hair?
Too bad Bilbo didn’t get a chance to pass off the ring. Maybe he will be able to next time Rue visits the dungeons? Or will she have to rescue them without the help of a magic ring?

CPR! Rue knows CPR, right? Even if she’s never been trained, she should have a general idea from movies and tv!
I think that Thorin is going to be verrryyy jealous because of Rue fangirling over Legolas!

Rue really is special. She’s so open. It’s a type of bravery, I think. No wonder Thorin is falling in love with her. It would be the rare person that would not be affected at all by her words.

I think that if Thorin wasn’t Beorn’s guest, Beorn would have killed him or at least attacked him for killing his bees. Did Thorin kill the bees? Or just destroy their hives?

I wish that Rue had let Thorin carry her. I understand the insecurity re: someone trying to pick you up when you’re a heavy girl, but dwarves are SUPER STRONG! Thorin would be able to effortlessly pick her up and run with her in his arms! Although he may have trouble due to his injury, so maybe it’s for the best. I hope at some point Thorin does pick her up though, and she starts to get over her insecurity.

An underground river freaks me the fuck out. What is there’s no more air space in the tunnel, and you drown? **shudders**
And holyyyy shit that’s a creepy ending to this chapter.
