I just ran into this fic and blazed through in a few hours, and I am really impressed by how good the writing is and how it focuses on the best themes of the first game, even the Wizarding World drop sounds interesting and gives the story scale beyond the game.

My one major critique is the over-reliance on the game for game characters' growth while Harry nearby shows that you can shake things up and grow him while keeping his core (craving family and saving people). If Harry can branch in interesting new directions, why not Joel and Ellie?

That said, it is a real shame to see this abandoned. Great job getting this far regardless.

I think it would have been more in line with the game if Tess' orders would have been: 'Get Ellie to the Fireflies. They need to make a cure, do not let this be for nothing.'
Then, at the end, Harry kills Joel when he barges into the operating room to save Ellie.
The story 'fading to black' as Joel looks at Harry as his life bleeds away.
But I can dig a happy ending too.

Kinda divided on the tess issue since i was kinda looking for a tess lives fanfic. she was a bitch and not entirely canon as far as i know but it could have been interesting to see her reactions. however the way she was set up as a character only left her a redemption arc as a method for character growth and i hate those. So i'm ultimately in favor of tess dying just not in the same place as the game.

Also still waiting to see how this will develop. it has got potential but it hasn't ripened yet so i'm reserving judgement. though i'm slightly annoyed by how Harry is always taking a detour or hurt when you want things to go according to game canon.
