The way nick keeps getting flustered… so, honestly, I'm curious as to if nick likes miles but miles didn't know who're the accident, or they were dating, but it was all secretive and such. Why doesn't he just tell him? It seems like lying about their relationship would do more harm for his memory.

Maybe Phoenix is unsure himself about their relationship? It would help if we knew what their relationship was like, at what stage their relationship was, and who knew about it.

If they had agreed to keep it a secret (or at least not make it public) it might explain why Phoenix wouldn't want to talk about it too much.

Poor Phoenix, that's horrible, a loved one not recognizing you.
