Last sentence is a punch in the gut. Another original, excellent story. Thanks for a new perspective.

I'd been thinking the same thing - that Jane and Lorelei had a lot in common, that is - and this articulated that nicely. You've done a good job showing Lorelei's internal motivations and conflicts, giving her a bit of the depth that was hinted at in-show.

Love this, Big Lisbon! I was sympathetic to Lorelei when she died, but hadn't really focused on just how sad it really was considering her past with RJ and her discovery about her sister, so I really liked how you kind of pieced it all together in this fic to showcase her story and maybe make her more relatable. And I loved the mention of how Lorelei and Jane became very similar. I had thought their missions mirrored each other with their desire to get revenge on RJ, but, again, hadn't really considered how Lorelei had still be living with her grief over Miranda long before Jane tried to tell her that RJ was the murderer. Great job!

"The only thing she knew for certain at the moment of her death was that she was grateful that Patrick Jane had given her the opportunity to die Red John's victim. It was better than dying Red John's girl"

This is just great. And perfectly accurate. This last sentence is just perfect in my opinion.
My feelings about Lorelei were highly balanced. In one hand, my shipper heart hated her for what was inflicted to my dear Lisbon.
On the other hand, I recognized she brought some fresh air to plots which began to be boring, and added an interesting dynamic, pushing the characters relationships towards new directions, or at least farer than what we were accustomed to.
Some people talked about how her relationship with PJ was a mirror to the one between Jane and Lisbon, the dark side of the coin if i may say. And I like that your Lorelei considers herself as the darkest one, the one Jane must not become, in echo with Jane's last words in the 5x16.
And thus saving him in cutting the link which could lead him to RJ himself, becoming like her.
But I fear now that it will not have any impact on what may follow... TM has this terrible tendency to not take into account this kind of thing in their following episodes -

I like Lorelei, and I liked dislinking her as much as I appreciated her. Maybe that was the purpose of the character.
... They shouldn't have called her Lorelei, they should have called her Janus. The dark revenging one hatred by wrath saving Jane in a last act of mercy ;)

Bref. Thank you for this really, really nice one shot :)

I'm glad you wrote this because I seriously loved Lorelei.

Very interesting to write from Lorelei's POV! Well done.

"Red John wouldn't kill him, no, that was too easy. He'd go after Teresa Lisbon and watch Patrick fall apart all over again. Red John was cruel that way."

Noooooooooooooooooo!

Gosh, this is exactly how I perceived the Lorelei situation to be. I think you've really honoured the character here - and a lot of fans forget how multifaceted she is and just saw her as a threat to Jane/Lisbon. But no, she had her own drives, her own passions, her own reasons. And this just summarises it all perfectly.
