Oh my gosh that was sad. I love the way you tied in Arthur's father's death with this. Gaius was definitely like a father to Merlin... and now Arthur is caring for his friend. *SOB* so awesome. I look forward to reading all of the other stories you have written. Good job on this one shot XD

I always thought Gaius was going to die at some point in the series, but he didn't! :) I love how you let Arthur know about the magic in this one-shot. Can you make it a two-shot, possibly? :)

Well that surprised me (in a good way), I did not pay close enough attention to the summary and was wollowing in Arthur comforting Merlin from a phyisical hurt and pain and all of a sudden, poof Gaius is dead. I actually think it had more impact like that, it echoed the sentement of the story, Gaius just died, it happens. He was old yes, but he was not ill, not injured, he wasn't murdered, he did not sacrifice himself it was just his time and he bowed out gracfully. That was really touching,I read another Gaius death fic eatlier this week (there must be something in the air) and I will say the same thing I always thought he or Hunith would get killed off in the show, but they never ever did. Merlin had to mourn in secret with no one to comfort him, which is why I adore fics that explore these issues. well done, after getting all that off my chest I will go back to cooking my tea.

Awww hun that was. so. beautiful! So angsty and bromantical and tragic! Poor Merlin. And poor Arthur. And poor everyone. It's like there is a hole in the world that can never be filled, because Gaius has gone. And it makes no difference that it was a peaceful death in his sleep - in fact it feels all the more tragic (knowing that at the end of the day, he was an old man, and would go some time). Thank goodness he has Arthur to be there for him - he was so sweet in this: mixing Merlin's medicine (liked the details of that btw), staying with him, comforting him, not making fun of him for crying, and offering to go with him to Ealdor (despite all his Kingly duties). I'm glad this was post-reveal as well - that would have been too distracting to the mourning Merlin is having to deal with, if he has to contend with an angry/suspicious/sarcastic King as well.
