newbie10 chapter 1 . 11/10/2016 The way my grandmother, whom I do not argue with otherwise I wouldn't get any of her gravy, is that if there is no meat in it like a vodka or an Alfredo is a sauce. Once meat gets added to the picture it becomes a gravy. The argument in this story sounds exactly like the ones I have at least once a month on the subject. Very good. |
Sarai chapter 1 . 8/10/2016 Yum! |
Cubit2 chapter 1 . 3/13/2016 This was wonderful. I don't have a drop of Italian in me but being a Jersey girl I definitely know that you never argue with an Italian about gravy. You nailed the argument perfectly. I've heard this same discussion many times after I learned the proper use of the words. :) As a Jersey girl growing up in the suburbs of Newark, I agree with your assessment of Danny being a true Jerseyan. Impressive performance by Scott Caan who is LA born and raised. He has the attitude, mannerisms, intonation... His use of sarcasm and insults as normal communication is classic NJ. He'll get right up in your face if you mess with his people. He even has that rise to his voice at the end of sentences that make them sound like questions when they're not. I was a huge JAG fan. I'll have to check out your JAG stuff. |
Long Live BRUCAS chapter 1 . 9/10/2015 HA! To funny. But I have to agree with the others. I call it sauce on spaghetti and gravy on roast. |
darkgirl3 chapter 1 . 6/9/2015 Poor Danny. I was wondering what he was making. I love brown gravy and red gravy. Keep up the great work. Love their family time. |
Skimball4 chapter 1 . 6/2/2015 Perfect story to end my crazy-busy day. Thank you for making me laugh. It reminded me of all the different names for soda pop.:) |
srhittson chapter 1 . 4/4/2015 Sounds good. Yum |
ams31 chapter 1 . 8/20/2014 I loved this story and I can totally relate. I grew up in NY and it was gravy and macroni in my house, sopping up gravy and the homemade Italian dressing from the salad with the fresh bread. I actually had this experience in college. I was in NE PA and my roommates stayed around to see what I was making when I told them I was having gravy and macroni. They couldn't figure out why I was putting brown gravy on pasta. Memory still makes me laugh years later. |
jmlane1966 chapter 1 . 3/11/2014 I live on The Hill in st. Louis (Italian section.) There is always a "gravy" debate going on somewhere. Your dialogue was quite familiar. Great dialogue and recipe. |
Ghanaperu chapter 1 . 6/23/2013 This was a very funny fic! Nice use of dialogue! And I can totally see them having this conversation. :) |
starrgirl22 chapter 1 . 5/24/2013 Really cute story. I agree that Danny comes from an Italian family. I really love to see Mama Williams make an appearance on the show. I imagine she would be loud and insist on feeding everyone. I love how much Danny wanted his colleagues to know the right names of the food he was making. He is sure stubborn. I do agree with him that the spam s'mores would be gross. |
Nora May French chapter 1 . 5/16/2013 Very cute - nice banter between Danny and Steve. This reminds me of the time I needed to earn my cooking badge for Girl Scouts. |
Jane Average chapter 1 . 4/30/2013 I'm neither Italian nor Jersian, but BOY do I know arguing with people about food, and this was spot on and absolutely awesome xD |
Runner043 chapter 1 . 3/16/2013 My friends from Italy recently explained the gravy/sauce thing to me. Grave on Spaghetti? It took a while, but I finally got it. Now my son is living in Italy and I've got to explain it to him... I think I'll just send him the link to your story instead. |
Mei2 chapter 1 . 3/10/2013 Great story and great recipe (which I tried)! My compliments to you and your nonna! |
