Oy. I love it. I love love love what you do with their emotions, their angst, their little touches. Their *wanting.* I was just recently remembering that bit in the first chapter about him WANTING for the first time. And there you were with a glorious update! I enjoyed rereading the chapters before it too.

Oh gods, their constant refrain of "tomorrow' kills me dead. Their sad restraint, indeed. Hurgh it hurts so good!

I think you've hit upon the real truth of his stubbornness in this case. It shamed him for her to see and know so much about his past. She knew something, apparently, but this was too close.

He rejected Grigg's pleas for help because he did not want Grigg (and their past history) encroaching on his life at Downton, with Elsie. In his mind, the past had the potential of contaminating his happiness and lessening Elsie's respect for him.

No one else in the house can understand the responsibilities of the heads of household. They are natural allies and I always love seeing them back each other up. Of course, this goes beyond that. I like how they start with a handkerchief and progress from two hands to three hands to holding all four hands.

I would LOVE to see the caricature Mr. Carson would come up with for Miss O'Brien!

I like her fighting the yawn, but losing when her thoughts get distracted by him. Their subtle touch at the end of both chapters was wonderfully done.

I forgot to mention in the last chapter how much I appreciate your focusing on how her manner with him (with everyone really) changed after the cancer scare. Her outlook on life was certainly altered by those months of waiting. I'm glad Carson notices too.

Okay, somehow I missed this when if first came out...my loss.

I guess my head canon Carson is always clueless as to his true feelings. This take on things makes it so much more tragic. I'm sure he told himself yesterday that he would kiss her tomorrow. I'm sure he's done that for many yesterdays.

I love knowing his thoughts and feelings. Thank you for this!
