That ending... ouch but oh so correct. Those two bumbling idiots were acting like they didn't care about how many muggles or muggleborns were tortured or killed. All they cared about was the status quo ... the status quo of Pureblood society that is.

Willing to keep Umbridge in the ministry despite her actions during the war, her part of sending muggleborns to concentration camps where they were never seen again... Umbridge was as guilty of mass murder and torture as the Death Eaters. Keeping her and those like her in the ministry just to keep the status quo, that's a recipe to have another Dark Lord. Though I doubt it would take 30 years for the next home grown one to appear. Draco and his fellow morons in school were never street-smart enough to wait that long to amass power.

And I am of firm belief that with Dumbledore's lax behavior towards students (failure to punish extreme behavior) and Snape's enablement of malicious behavior in Slytherin or of purebloods in general, that within Snape's time of being at Hogwarts some student would arise to become (or try to) become the next Dark Lord.

Shudders in horror with the certain knowledge that this is how it really did play out. So scary.

I always got the impression that trying to change the wizarding world would be a bit like trying to throw a baseball through the eye of a needle in the middle of a tornado with one eye closed.
