  Anonymous chapter 1 . 6/21 This is the most bittersweet Merlin fic I've ever read. Considering I love sad things and have consumed more of the Merlin fanfic archive than is conducive to anyone's health, you can hopefully take this as high praise. |

Stuck With Me. “Marcus washes dishes – running water on command, another miracle of this odd age – mouth screwed up in a pout even as his head bobs along to music Arthur can't hear. Merlin informs him it's how children are, nowadays, each listening to songs no one else knows. To Arthur, who'd once held lively feasts full of music and laughter and friends in his halls, it seems rather lonely.” Yes! Yes it is lonely! And after reading that, I didn’t just start to see it in others, but when I started college, I had zero friends. And listening to my favorite podcasts while I ate meals felt a lot less lonely than if I ate them in silence. But everyone does that. Everyone who’s alone has headphones and AirPods in and we’re all just so lonely and I love how your fanfic put it into words for Arthur. Someone from the past coming into our world with all our technology and ability to communicate over continents and he observes how lonely we all are. My point is, I’ve thought about your fanfic often over the years and I just wanted to tell you. If you see this, I hope you’re safe and healthy! |
