Great! Love the description of Downey's tone of voice. very Pratchattian.

I relish the way she displays what might in other circumstances be described as "overconfidence" in her dealings with Downey. And the way Downey realises - "like father, like daughter" and backs off hurriedly (no doubt aware Vimes once showed up his lack of training in rough-housing it, street-style, and gave him a black eye).

What House will ... Samantha... be sent to? As she's boarding, you have, canonically, a choice of four: Black Widow House (Madame Deux-Epées); Tump House (Miss Alice Band); Scorpion House (Lady T'Malia) or Raven House (Miss Smith-Rhodes). I'm surprised her housemistress was not on hand to deliver a reprimand, but no doubt they will all have been informed, as bad news travels fast.

Please feel free to take your cue from my characterisations of the lady teachers. I'd be honoured if you did! Will the street weaponry Vimes can't remember putting in his daughter's case be confiscated? Or used against bullies?)

i also see you have the same problem with spelling the name Sybil/Sibyl as I do... I think the correct spelling is Sybil, although I'll have to check.

Most interesting start! How would a daughter of Vimes and Sybil get on at the Assassins' Guild School... (although there's a niggling little voice in my head that wonders if Sybil would insist on the Quirm Academy if it were a daughter... we will see..)
