I love this outcome better. I always thought that Shane had a good heart in him, even during the situations. Even more, I kinda liked Shane just a little; yeah, I wasn't exactly happy at how he was turning out and I especially wasn't exactly happy how he treated Lori once Rick was back, but I get over things like that. When I found he got shot, by his own high school friend no less, I was stunned. More than that, I was pissed. Then, I started to really dislike Rick because Rick changed so much after that. Then they kill off my favorite character, Dale, and I just get all the more agitated. So, in summary, I loved this outcome better. I wish you actually wrote the story line instead; then Shane wouldn't have to die.

Okay, so I read this for the first time aaaaages ago and I thought I'd reviewed but apparently not so: I really really enjoyed this. I totally agree about Rick and Shane's relationship and I really hoped they'd go a different way in the end but sadly not :( I much prefer your way even though I'm sure something would have happened again eventually but let's face it, Shane was the more useful one in that situation and he made a decision (okay maybe he shouldn't have but as you said, if he hadn't then they'd both have died as well as Carl).

I was pleasantly surprised by the flashback scene as well, too often people add flashbacks as a justification for major OOCness in their current story but I think this whole thing was believable and just well, lovely really. Makes me very sad to think what really happened...well done!

This was awesome. I think you nailed their character really well, their bond even better. I completely agree with you that the removal of the relationship between Rick and Shane was a bad decision. I imagine it was either staying true to the comics or it was laying ground work for the next season. Regardless, it makes me mad their dynamic won't be there.

Catching your username, I know you are a Supernatural fan, which suggests to me you've got good taste. I'm off to check out what else you got!

I love it, because I honestly feel that this was the way it had to. Shane made tough decission that not everybody liked, but he was right most of the times. His way to make himself clear was a bit bad sometimes, but I still think he was a doing a great job and never got the credit for the strong man he was.

Gah, man... Here I was, diving into TWD fanfiction for the first time, hoping there was someone else seeing slash between those two... And then I saw the summary to your story, and I was like: "meh, I want slash! But what the hell, worth a shot..." And 3500 words later, let's say that I'm happy I gave it a shot. :)

I am so moved by this, you won't believe. You describe their relationship so beautifully, I felt like I was at Hershel's house watching them. You even managed to write a flashback where you could feel the time that had passed; they were different, younger, more innocent, but still the same characters. I agree with you: the chemistry is the main thing in Rick and Shane's relationship, and you captured that so well that Rick putting his hand on Shane's neck felt more intimate than a whole chapter of hardcore sex.

And lastly (sorry for the long review): Springsteen is a god. Your profile picture makes me very happy. ;)

Great job and very close to my own thoughts. I know that practically the writers intended to kill Shane from the start, but from a fan POV it made no sense the way they did it. I love your idea that if Rick had just payed closer attention Shane could have been saved.

I've never really watched 'Walking Dead' properly but I've seen enough episodes (my husband is a fan) to know about the characters and what has happened so given this had been written by you I had to give it a go, and I'm glad I did.

The only part of the programme I'd vauguely liked was the friendship between Rick and Shane so, same as you, I was disappointed when they made Shane 'bad' and Rick had to kill him. I much prefer your version of events and it was really well written with just the right amount of touching emotion that never strayed over the top or became too mushy.

Oh my God this was fantastic! I LOVE this idea of Shane telling Rick about Otis that night. Oh how I wish this would have really happened on the show. You did an outstanding job of capturing each one of them so perfectly. It was like everything I wished they would have said. Sorry but I just can't get enough of these two and this was amazing! More?
