Baa La Rising chapter 1 . 7/25/2012 I have no idea why I didn't fav this, but lets d that now. I love your writing, its matured the characters but not lost their cores :). /fangirlies. |
FairladyZ2005 chapter 1 . 4/12/2012 Yay, more Avatar fic. Sometimes you just need a break and to write something else to get inspired again. This story reminds me thematically of Lunatique's Two Realizations. I though the almost Mukka (what is a Mai/Sokka ship called anyway?) was done as well as the almost Zutara of Luna's story. I also liked Zuko's proposal at the end, though I think my favorite part was "Sokka, the forgotten war hero," when he was trying to get dropped off at the palace. So funny and in character. |
azulastar chapter 1 . 4/8/2012 This was a brilliant and well written one-shot, I hope you have some more ideas for avatar in the near and far future. |
winterdevils chapter 1 . 4/7/2012 This was AMAZING!. Well done my friend, well done. This piece was great, a wonderfully written piece that was delightful to read. The proposal was sweet and very well written, it's simple yet very effective. x |
Private Fire chapter 1 . 4/6/2012 The set up created by having Suki and Zuko respectively leaving their partners and then arranging for Mai and Sokka to keep each other company is well conceived. Zuko’s duties are bound to take him away from time to time. Suki would stand her ground to get her message through loud and clear that Sokka needs to help out more with their children, even if it means leaving him on his own for a while. Akira’s question about the wisdom of having a “male guest while Zuko [was] away” certainly planted a seed in Mai’s mind. “They were doing nothing wrong.” They were just two friends talking while in a beautiful and romantic setting. I sincerely doubt Mai would have even thought twice about it if it had not been for her mother’s question. But there was the sticking point: "...so we've both been abandoned..." Not a good feeling at all on either’s part. On the one hand you have Mai who still does not speak her mind, nor makes her emotions clear, but keeps them in check; no doubt as a result of her childhood conditioning. It is interesting to note, as we see here, that she feels vulnerable when someone acknowledges her feelings, even more so because she had not voiced them. Rather they are accurately surmised by Sokka. Though she and Zuko may understand each other (a look and caress between them can speak volumes), it is not the same as having your feelings validated when they are spoken aloud as they are by Sokka. Score one for Sokka. Also, Sokka being charming and entertaining never hurt when it came to the ladies. Score two for Sokka. For Sokka’s part, it seemed to be purely physical, a moment of connection and sexual attraction. Mai felt it too. Fleeting yes, but it was still there. It exists for a moment and is gone the next, leaving the question as to what to do about it. Thank you for having them let it go. No good would have come of it and you would have a monster size fic just trying to set things right again. Whew! Two more points: I love the way you’ve conveyed Mai’s sentiments in that single line which tore at my heart: “He was always leaving.” I also love how you elicited humor and sympathy surrounding Sokka’s arrival at the Fire Nation on account that no one knew who he was. I could not help but be reminded of the episode “Sokka’s Master.” Finally, but not least, I love the way you resolved things at the end – with a marriage proposal! Yes! |
lollipop-tsundere chapter 1 . 4/6/2012 OMG I WAS SOOO HAPPY WHEN I SAW AN ALABASTER86 STORY ON AVATAR ONCE AGAIN! This was like a revelation! i mean i was all sad and gloomy because, sincerely i cannot find anything to read these days so i started reading Inuyasha fanfiction! Though i only like Sesskik even though its not canon... but back to you! I was like: -OMG WHAT MADE HER WRITE THIS!- And to tell you the truth i was so exited it was 12:35 p.m and for the excitment i read it, though i couldnt review on my dammed phone, it was awsome, you are awsome and i hope for a reply on to why you wrote this fanfic, if i dont bother too much. Thanks for sharing and i hope to see more (much more) work like this in the near future. ;) Good luck on your writing journey and i hope you are having some relaxing vacations. Buenas noches! (or at least for me anyway) Night night! |
Pengwens chapter 1 . 4/6/2012 Aww, this is sweet. I like that Mai and Sokka get along very well and I like the way you write Mai-you show that she is not some boring, emotionless character like some people do. Awesome story, keep on writing! |
This is where my name would go chapter 1 . 4/6/2012 This was so great! I was reading it on my phone and I just burst out laughing and my dad was starring at me like I was crazy, but it was just so great! |
Lord Lelouch chapter 1 . 4/5/2012 A good oneshot. Neither Sokka nor Mai did anything wrong even if they did feel temptation. Mai was simply feeling lonely because Zuko's responsibilities as Fire Lord kept getting in the way of them spending time together. I'm glad that he finally decided it was time to put his foot done on some matters and allow himself some time to relax and let other people handle their own problems. Anyways. I wanted to ask will you ever be writing a sequel to your stories Equivalent Exchange and Trial by Fire. Personally,I'd like to see you update writte a sequel for Trial by Fire. In which Zuko and Iroh plan to sieze the Fire nation from Ozai from within. After all the Avatar has been gone for nearly a hundred years many believe the cycle has ended so what better way to bring peace than by placing an honourable fire lord like Zuko or Iroh on the throne. |
